Papa is one of a kind. None of us have met anyone even close. He's a 5'6" tall silver-haired miracle never to be duplicated.

Yes, this coffeecup really looks funny, no, it isn't me hiding there between the man and holding cup and saucer for Joseph - although.....the size could be right because I was only 10 years old then.

On picture No 2.....he looks a bit doubtful, not seems to be so happy what the person opposite him is saying. Or he is miles away dreaming of the weekend.

But what a pleasure it is to flash back and flash forward at will through the stages of Papa's life and be "ravished" by him (figuratively, of course) at whatever age! His eyes are always so alive! These ones were taken in 2000. In the first picture, he is with Cardinal Lehmann. Thanks to Ratzigirl, as usual:

Haven't seen this one before. He could have been the poster boy for the curia.

The photo-archive dates on these photos chosen by Ratzigirl from the kna-bild treasure trove she has found indicate that the first photo was taken in 1986, the second in 1984, the third and fourth in 1980, and the fifth in 1981. If I had not seen the dates, I would have thought the first two photos were taken earlier than the last 3!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER EYESIGHT??

The woman in the third photo seems to be handing a rose to the second guy from the right. Can she not see Papa standing next to him? What is she thinking? Right now, she is probably rebuking herself daily for not handing that rose to the right man. Some people just have no taste.

O yes Benefan. Papa was and still is the most handsome man at the vatican. Does anyone know whether it's true that there is a convent of Mother Teresa inside of the vatican ? I've read it somewhere and I would really like to know what the nuns were thinking, back in 1981 as Papa arrived as a new Cardinal

Ummmmm those black and white photos..... I would love to see the top one without that horrible band thing. he looks so sweet, vulnerable, but knows how cute he is. I wonder if it was taken at the same time as the very familiar one that Ignatius used to use in their catalogues.

is it just me, or does he look a bit strained on the second foto? The eyes look a bit glazed, as if he's tired but needs to make a point.

I'm trying to gather as many photographs as I can have access to of Papa on the Loggia that April 19, as every second was unique. How I love these pictures....

Precious, precious Papa....I have been trying to write appropriate lyrics to change Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" (which has such a pure and lovely melody, especially as sung by Montserrat Caballe or Kiri Te Kanawa) to "O mio Papino caro"...
[For those who may not be familiar with it, the aria is sung by a young girl to her grandfather, "babbino", to exult in her love and delight over the object of her love. Well, once I change it to "Papino," the addressee and subject become one and the same!)

Anyway, let me post on this page Paparatzifan's enlargement of a cropped kna-bild from 1977 - that golden year, with Ratzi at his most ...dare I say it - sensuous!
