Paris Hilton
Yes, I thought it's a joke too. What the heck has Paris Hilton in common with the holy Mother Teresa ??? And what kind of a stage director would choose her for a movie about such a holy woman ??? Thats a mystery to me. I think Hilton is not even able to keep her text in mind. However - without a brain ...
This can't be true ... They shold stop that madness. [SM=x40796] [SM=x40796] [SM=x40796]

I wouldn't really take these rumours so seriously. This Indian director probably just needs some PR. And even if he wants Paris - she is not stupid, she knows quite well that she is not the right person to play Mother Teresa.
To be honest, it worries me more that some Bollywood-Person wants to make a film about Mother Teresa than the posssibility that Paris Hilton plays that role.

@Jil: "...it worries me more that some Bollywood-Person wants to make a film about Mother Teresa than the posssibility that Paris Hilton plays that role."

Benefan: That's true. No telling what kind of story would emanate from that background. Hmmm. I wonder if he was going to do the film as a musical.

@Jil: "And even if he wants Paris - she is not stupid,"

Benefan: No comment.

[SM=g27828]

I mean: She's clever. She knows she is good at things like perfume, fashion, gossip, greek boyfriends etc. - and that's it.

I wonder if he was going to do the film as a musical.

Of course, a musical and a Love Story!!! [SM=g27820]:

@Jil: "Of course, a musical and a Love Story!!!"

Benefan: Oh Lord, Jil. You are probably right. Poor Mother Teresa. I think I'll go pray the rosary for a while to settle my nerves. Just thinking of Paris Hilton doing some song and dance number in a Missionary of Charity's sari was making me twitch but to imagine some kind of bizarre love story thrown in.... Would it be uncatholic to call for the director to be beheaded? Yeah, I guess it would. Maybe we could just protest by overturning some cars and burning some tires in the street.

Paris who?????
Girls - I'm going to come clean: I've never heard of Paris Hilton! But you've made it clear that she's not suitable for the part of Mother Teresa. What is she- actress, model or just a "celebrity" for no reason? Come to think of it - who COULD play Mother Teresa?

Mary, "celebrity for no reason" would sum it up nicely. She is the twenty-something daughter of the Hilton hotel chain family. Her claim to fame was being in a home-made sex tape of her (she was around 17) and her boyfriend (around 30) at the time which was put on the internet for the world to see. She has since "starred" on a reality show called "The Simple Life" which should have been called "The Stupid LIfe". As Jil says, she has attached her name to some line of perfume and other things. She has zero talent and is not even all that attractive. But shallow? Yes. Definitely NOT Mother Teresa material.

PLEASE! - ENOUGH ALREADY
One could write - and if I were a sociologist and bona fide cultural critic, I would - a whole volume about how the nauseating Paris Hilton epitomizes our culture's obsession with celebrity for celebrity's sake, making media icons of individuals whose initial claim to "fame" is usually something infamous, as in her case, and who, instead of paying for their infamy, are rewarded instead with "fame and celebrity", which not one of them has yet failed to parlay into not-inconsiderable fortune.

I didn't get into a flap over the Indian director's announcement because I found it absurd, unreal and downright "truth-challenged" (no computer could be so dumb as to show a "perfect match" between the facial characteristics of the vapid Paris and the saint of Calcutta!), and worse of all, an obvious ploy to get attention - at which it has more than succeeded!

This was like the Michael Jackson stories a few months ago. It is not about misrepresentation of fact that one can argue against or dispute with fact - it's about pure and simple delusion. So let these crazies indulge their delusions. From deluding about something to actually doing it is a LONG WAY to go. The proof of the pudding....etc.

QUESTION OF PROPRIETY
And what's the problem with the Vatican editors? One of the photos in the 'selection' available on their Photo Gallery from the audience of April 5 should never have been released. And you'll know it right away when you see it. It's not bad bad, but it's very inappropriate for a Pope. What was the idea?!?!
I sent them an e-mail asking to take it off the site. Please do so, as well. Use the e-mail prompt on the photo page. Thank you.

Paris again
While not condoning Paris Hilton's lifestyle (trustafarian, 'It' girl), I do feel it only fair to point out that while she did agree to her boyfriend taping them having sex, she had no idea he intended to present the results to the world. She was very young at the time and obviously rather naive. It was a painful lesson in what happens when you go out with a sleazeball.

And no, she isn't the right person to play Mother Teresa. I think the whole thing is a publicity ploy actually, because Paris H, as a tall pale girl with straight blonde hair, doesn't even remotely look the part, even if she were a daily communicant....

IT'S OUT!
Either the e-mail worked or someone in Osservatore Romano came to his senses. YES! The photo is out - it preceded 56417 in the display, and showed the Pope walking toward his chair. Because of the lighting, and the fact that he is in mid-stride, one could see through his robes with, particularly the right side, his legs from ankle to almost hip height in clear outline (and remember, Popes don't wear regular trousers but something similar to long-johns). If he were anybody else but the Pope, no one could take exception to the picture. It's taken from the back, and he looks quite athletic, actually.

The vanished pic
had a see-through effect, yes. (I saved it, because no one else works on my PC...) But I wonder how often people can glimpse Popes' legs in this way, depending on the lighting. If the camera picked it up, can the naked eye manage the same?
Jil
00domenica 9 aprile 2006 11:12
@mag6nideum

It's probably different with the camera, otherwise somebody should have noticed before. Quite possible that the tailor is in trouble now (again). [SM=g27817] Things like that are not supposed to happen.

Thank you for finding the photo and reacting to it TERESA.

I'm just praying some malicious person didn't download it before it was taken off the site. I dread the very thought that it could turn up in syndicated release throughout the world!
(I will never forget how the Associated Press once released a photograph of Britain's Princess Anne, showing her from the back as she was reviewing some troops in Australia - the wind had blown her skirt up, and the picture showed her in full, panties and thighs bared for all the world to see! It came in the daily photo subscription of the newspaper I was working for, and I hoped no one would use it. My paper did not, but sure enough, the next day, it turned up in all the others! People can be really petty and mean.)

Thanks!

You came to the right place- CHATTER is for all sorts of not-elsewhere-classifiable matter as well as plain trivia and chitchat!

I have watched a few episodes from Sister Angelica's old programs, and she strikes me as being very feisty, good-humored, sensible and one who knows her own mind, oh yes! I think what she did, almost singlehanded at first, to start and to build EWTN into what it is today is an amazing story, and I am glad Raymond Arroyo has written her biography.

THE 'DA VINCI' CLONES
There must be a whole line of books rolling off the presses around the world in the new genre called "religious thriller", each one riding on the coattails of Dan Brown's mega-success. How about this one, which Beatrice reports in the French section - she merely reproduces the blurb on the book jacket, so we don't know - nor do we care - who the author is.

Here's a translation of the blurb:

THE SECRET OF THE 13th APOSTLE
Assassinated on the Rome-to-Paris train, Father Andrei was on the point of discovering a secret that would have rocked the West and which the Church has doggedly fought to conceal since it was founded. Before he was killed, he was able to tell his friend Father Nils about it. Pursuing his dead friend's investigation, Nils tracks down an epistle and a companion of Jesus who has been hidden from view all these centuries. Rome will do everything to prevent him from his pursuit. So will Jerusalem and Mecca. Because it is the world order itself that is at stake!

Murders, lies, manipulation - from the corridors of the Vatican to the caves at Qumran, from the mysteries of the Essenes to those of the Templars, a fascinating religious thriller along the lines of The Name of the Rose.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Boy, speaking of formulas! Da Vinci Code, mutatis mutandis, with a dash of Robert Ludlum! But even the blurb-writer for this potboiler disdains to use Dan Brown as a model, rather pretentiously evoking the intellectual Umberto Eco's most entertaining first best-seller, which is a literary, highly literate work with solid, original, scholarly resarch behind it (all things, in short, that Dan Brown's mega-blockbuster does not have).

Simone- I did not think you would have missed it, because later, I saw a reference to it in the German section of the RFC, where Doomina (I think) said there was a 'schluepfrig' picture of Papa on the Vatican site, and Kirsty more or less said, Yeah, I just used other pictures instead; and then later, I think it was AnnaLena who noted that the picture was no longer on the site. If Jil saved it on disc, maybe she can show it to you privately somehow...

Mary, you are encouraging her. [SM=x40795]

It really wasn't a pretty sight. Every time I think of him in that flimsy robe in front of thousands and TV cameras, I just cringe and feel like strangling his tailor and immediate "aides" for letting that happen.

Mary, try a cat cake since your piano idea was stolen.
