The photos that disappeared are on the thread Photo da Papa upstairs in the Italian section. They start with Paparaxvi's post #751 and show Papa in his red cape at his meeting and question and answer session with the young people in Rome.
Papa always looks most relaxed and happy when he is with young people, don't you think? That always reminds me of part of the homily he gave at JPII's funeral. He said that when John Paul left his teaching job at the university to comply with the call of the church, he must have felt that he was leaving part of himself behind, leaving his identity. Even though I knew absolutely nothing about Cardinal Ratzinger at that time, when I heard him making that comment, I felt that he was talking more about himself than JPII. Later, when I read about Papa's long university career, I was certain that he did feel that way when he had to give up teaching to become a bishop. His heart is still in teaching and his deepest affection is for children and youths.

PAPINO, SEI VERAMENTE IL NOSTRO AMORE DIVINO...
A lovely profile captured by Paparaxvi from Papa's visit to the Divino Amore sanctuary on Monday.
One of many amazing videocaps by Monica from that occasion
(see PICTURES AND VIDEOS).
And from Ratzigirl who found these on the mexicosiempreifel site:

„Die Rose, die Lilie, die Taube, die Sonne …“ Papa in flower ‚wrapping‘ – on his birthday.
"Die Rose, die Lilie, die Taube, die Sonne,
Die liebt' ich einst alle in Liebeswonne.
Ich lieb' sie nicht mehr, ich liebe alleine
Der Kleine, der Feine, der Reine, der Eine;
Er selber, aller Liebe Wonne,
Ist Rose und Lilie und Taube und Sonne." (Heinrich Heine - with a minor adjustment by lutheranguest)
"The rose, the lily, the dove, the sun,
once, rapt with love, I loved them all.
I love them no more, I love only
him who is small, exquisite, chaste, unique.
He, all loving rapture, himself
Is rose and lily and dove and sun." (Translation to English by 'unknown') |

LOVELIEST EASTER BOUQUET EVER! Oh Liv!!! These pictures and the Heine poem together make up the loveliest Easter bouquet ever! What an amazing selection of pictures, and what a perfect poem for Papa! [As I don't have a Heine anthology, I am curious to know what is the 'minor adjustment' you referred to! - 'Sie selber...' or 'Du selber...' vielleicht? ]...I could sit here all day and look at these pictures and say the verse over and over!!!!!
Thanks a million for this unforgettably unique gift..... [Modificato da TERESA BENEDETTA 06/05/2006 14.44] |

I love this one from Paparaxvi's video-caps at Divino Amore. Papa has had a number of these 'ageless' photos since Holy Week (notably at the Via Crucis and at the concert of the City of Rome in his honor)...

Ratzigirl selected this photo from Sunday's Good Shepherd Mass in response to recent requests to show Papa's flame-blue eyes - what you see when you get close enough:

ALWAYS READY FOR HIS CLOSE-UP Nessuna has posted some stunning new enlargements in her FOTOGALERIA.
Let me try posting one - I hope it doesn't throw our text line lengths out of kilter.

Everyday I thank God, among other things, that Papa is the first Pope of the Internet age. The rise of the
Internet coincided with JP-II's difficult last years so pictorial coverage of him was necessarily limited
until his unprecedented wake and funeral. But our Papa on the Internet! - what would we do without the web,
indeed, even if we take it for granted now.
And so we have access to pictures that otherwise we would never else get to see because the newspapers and
magazines can only publish so much, and what they do publish often tends to be banal! Not like these
two photos, for instance...
Where else but on the Internet or in a book of photographs, perhaps - and only with Ratzi - might one see
images like these of a Pope wearing his candor so lovably, even under the Papal miter and ceremonial robes!
Ratzi is being Ratzi even as Pope, spontaneously showing what he feels at the moment, as we have seen in
dozens of candid photos taken when he was prefect at CDF, a sampling of which Sylvie put together in this
recent montage -
WHAT A DELIGHT! EVEN WHEN HE SEEMS MOST CONTRARY,YOU WANT TO SMOTHER HIM WITH 'SMAKKOTTI' AS THE CONSORELLE
WOULD SAY! Whenever I look at this montage, the laughter just bubbles out of me, and waves of love and tenerezza....
This image, selected by Ratzigirl from the last general audience, belongs to this post!
What could have provoked this amusement?
