EASTER/BIRTHDAY TREAT FROM RATZGIRL POPE PAUL VI of blessed memory pronounces the words that make Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger a Cardinal.
This is the best picture we have seen so far of this moment. We can see one of Bernini's massive twisted
columns, so we know this Consistory took place at the main altar of the Basilica. Was there ever
a more gorgeous Cardinal?
And four smaller pix for good measure:

AGELESS PAPA ON GOOD FRIDAY Ratzigirl posted this upstairs - it's one of the best close-ups of Papa from the Via Crucis. It's too late for me to post it into the Via Crucis photo series in PICTURES AND VIDEOS, but it is so exceptional anyway that it belongs here. And once again, I hope either British Papa Fan or Nessuna, both of whom subscribe to Corbis, can give us the clean version. And maybe Nessuna can enlarge it as well. (Thanks, girls....)

WHAT PAPA MOST LOOKS LIKE IN PERSON Several months ago (after the November audience when she saw Papa
in person for the third time, I believe), I asked Paparatzifan to show me
among all the hundreds of pictures posted on this forum, which one looked
most like him when you see him in person. She sent me a picture that looked
very much like the first in this series of photos picked by Ratzigirl
from yesterday's general audience.
In addition, Ratzigirl's caption with the picture said, "For those who
have not yet had a chance to see Ratzi up close: his eyes are really this
color - azure blue and pure as a a cloudless sky."

Paparaxvi once again delights us with her videocaps, this time from the RAI mini-biography of Ratzi aired with the Urbi et Orbi benediction coverage on Easter Sunday to mark Papa's birthday.

WHAT PAPA MOST LOOKS LIKE IN PERSON Yes those photos from Paparatzifan and Ratzigirl... ahhhhhhhh!
But, as the Popemobile was entering the square before the audience it passed right in front of me. Papa was looking over my head to the crowds that were shouting. Barely able to speak I said "Papa..." wanted to say sooooo much more... but almost started to cry... he looked down at me and this is the face I saw (originally taken 11/02/2005 General Audience)

After the Archbishop pictures, that is.
'Age cannot wither nor custom stale his infinite variety..."
Shakespeare might well have written it of Ratzi.
Have you all read Paul Badde's article on Papa's youthfulness and vigor (in NEWS ABOUT BENEDICT) - MUST READ!

I love the last close up pic. Papa's eyes are ...
I guess I'd pass out if he would look at me like this. But it's not only the eye-colour causing this beautiness. His eyes are so full of love, expressive, thrilling like a deep deep sea.
Aaargh ... I'm drowning here ... ----------------------------------------
Joseph Kardinal Ratzinger - Papst Benedikt XVI
