WOW, THAT LAST PHOTO IS PARTICULARLY MAGNIFICENT!!!
The occasion looks like another academic get-together and Papa looks around 50 years old, his prime photogenic age. Every time I see these kinds of photos of him, I have to wonder how did he ever elude the women of the world? Was it Wulfrune who pointed out he looked better than a movie star? However, he emits kindness, not the vanity that movie stars are so full of. Um, um, um, a thousand times um! |

For those who have not yet seen this picture of Ratzi as a young professor in Bonn - a rare one, when the hair was just starting to turn white - Eugenia in the main forum has reposted it from the Russian site. It was published by the University of Bonn's school organ on the occasion of Ratzi's election.

The Pope visited Rome's Major Seminary at St. John Lateran this evening, on the Feast of the
seminary's patron, the Madonna of Confidence.
He was honored with a performance of an hour-long oratorio, "Ombra di Padre"
(Shadow of the Father), a tribute to St. Joseph. In his brief remarks after the performance,
he thanked the singers, choir, orchestra and narrators (mostly seminarians) and acknowledged
that they chose to honor him with a tribute to "my patron saint" (il mio santo patrono).
He looked very well and sounded particularly sweet-voiced and melodious today, though
he coughed once or twice.
( I don't know if it was just my system, but I had to hold the speaker next to my ear
to be able to hear the proceedings over CTV online, though I had turned it up to full volume.)
Here is Sylvie's montage of the event:

Carissime amice!
This super photo was given free in today's Universe, but the original was very badly printed - Papa's face and hands were terribly red. I've scanned it and altered it as best I could, but it's still not good. Please, does anyone have this photo from the November 30th General Audience? It's so lovely!

MaryJos, I can't help you with your specific request but here's an excellent recent photo from Ratzigirl!
By the way, what was the occasion that Universe was giving away a picture of the Pope?
And was there anything special about B16 in that issue? I gather it is a weekly Catholic paper?magazine? |

Paparatzifan bought this picture from Foto Felici in Rome because, she says, it is most like the image in her mind of Papa as she saw him in front of her at the November 9 general audience.
And MaryJos, now that our encyclopedic archivist Sylvie has identified the Universe photo for you, you may write Catholic Press Photo directly to order it without the marks. |

I got the 'Universe' today in Church and it came with two posters inside, plus there was a pile for people to take anyway. The universe is a Catholic weekly paper which carries some good items and a lot of rather taboidy stuff about celebs who happen to be Catholic - how serious they are is never mentioned. However, this paper has taken to including free A4 sized prints quite frequently - a generosity that is very good to see. There was one of B16 earlier which Maryjos tipped me off about, and this is the second. There are other posters as well, sometimes reflecting the liturgical calendar.
Maryjos is right, the quality of the reproduction is terrible, he looks as if he's been at the cooking sherry. |

Great pictures!!!
Oh, Sylvie you've found the photo Maryjos was looking for? It's lovely - the marks don't matter.
So, now we are all looking forward to see Papa again holding the audiences at St. Peter's Square with the sunshine on his face.

Great photos. When do the audiences move back outside again? People have been packed like sardines into the Paul VI Hall. Obviously, it wasn't built to hold the crowds Papa draws.
Jil, I love the song. Very Papa-ish. The photo of the eyes is lovely.
Has anybody heard from Yvonne lately? It seems like she's been away for a long time. We need her to sharpen her pencil for reports on Papa's trip to Poland soon. I hope she's okay. |

Carissime amice!
Thank you so much for looking for that pic. Teresa - I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the second one you had posted, and my heart really lurched - this is not a joke - because that's how he looked when I saw him! Same as when Paparatzifan saw him up close........those eyes!!!!!!
Sylvie - thank you for finding the actual photo!!!! Those watermarks are from the Catholic Photo site aren't they - they expect us to buy the pics we want. But, when I'm in Rome, if I can find that photo, I'll buy it and scan it properly for you all. I can't promise I'll find it, but I'm going to have a good try.
Thanks again all of you! It's such a warm feeling, knowing we do , indeed, all feel the same......the solidarity helps!
With much love! Mary x

P.S. TO BENEFAN'S MESSAGE -
Yes, indeed! YVONNE, HALLO THERE! Drop us a line so we know you're OK, but better yet, visit regularly as you used to. We miss you!
P.S. ON PICTURES -
Just for the record, I'd like to post here the second half of Sylvie's montage from Papa's visit to the seminary yesterday:
Additional information from material gathered by Syvlie:
Mons. Marco Frisina, who wrote the oratorio "Ombra di Padre" on St. Joseph and conducted the performance yesterday for the Pope,
has a degree in composition from the Accademia Santa Cecilia and a dgeree in theology from the Gregorian University. He is a specialist in Sacred Scriptures at the Pontifical Biblical Commission. ... Gianni Proietti, who sang the lead in the oratorio, is the first tenor of both the Coro della Diocesa di Roma and the Appella Musicale Lateranense.
This picture is from the Pope's meeting with the President of Albania last week. I love the way he is appreciating the gift! That faccia facciosa molto coccolissima!!!!

On a litle postscript to Sylvie's montage, Marco Frisina wrote 'Jesus Christ, you are my Life' which was such a hit at WYD. He's written a lot of music; from the brief clips on his website, not all of it of comparable quality. I wish his stuff was available here however!!! |

More from Nessuna's large-format FOTOGALERIA in the Spanish section:
This is for those who may have noticed, as Simone did, that Papa's shoes at a recent occasion appeared to be brown,
not red. I think it must be the Bordeaux-colored handmade shoes that Girgio gave him for Christmas, and in this
enlargement, they do look a deep Bordeaux.
How boyish Papa looks here!
This looks very gemuetlich indeed, as informal as can be!
No wonder Laura Bush said she felt like she was talking with her own pastor!

I didn't have the pillows arranged right so now I'm a bit groggy from bouncing off the floor on my head. Can't say you didn't warn us, Nan. What a beautiful Papa!
