GRA(T)ZIE, RATZIGIRL - whose caption to these pictures said something like, "Forget about the train! I would walk all the way (from Florence where she now lives) to see him! How can anyone resist?"

I AGREE WITH RATZIGIRL EXCEPT THERE IS AN OCEAN IN THE WAY FOR ME AND I HAVEN'T LEARNED TO WALK ON WATER YET.

I think we should suggest that Papa set one day aside each week to hold a catechesis for ladies only. I have a feeling it would be the most well attended of any church events and it would probably do a lot to defuse militant feminism in the church. It would also, I am sure, be a very colorful and well publicized event.

To help us through Lent.....
Beautiful expressions here! In the second photo Papa looks both peaceful and thoughtful.....and there's expression in his hands, too.
Let's hope he's less worried about big Georg now!
That second photo suggests that his retreat has given him much grace.....it will make a superb prayer card for me for the rest of Lent.
Buona notte e sogni d'oro a tutte amice!

OHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
These large-format photos are just delightful! I loved that picture with the baby on Michael Dubruiel's blog (I hope I spelled his name right - Amy Wellborn's husband) and I didn't know it was in large-format. I thought I only saw it snapshot-size. How wonderful!... Papa of course had more well-bundled papooses handed to him at the general audience today. Did JP-II have so many babies handed to him this way?

Meanwhile, here is today's special from Nessuna. Papa is so mignon, as Sylvie might say, all faccia facciosa carinissima, as Ratzigirl would say, and as I can't think of an expression to match theirs, I will just say, Oh Papa!

And now, excuse me just a little longer. I have been translating a lengthy but fantastic and truly fascinating interview about Papa by someone who has known him for 60 years....It's 10 printed pages and I'm only halfway through...

Ooohhh, that's so lovely. I'm wondering what Papa is going to say here on that pic. The expression of his face and his beautiful smile ... O my dear .. I'm flying away [SM=x40798] [SM=x40798]

Wayyyhay! The frightful haircut seems to have grown back. Look out, Papa, the scissors must be lurking for another shearing....

Lovely shot of him with the flowers. I think perhaps lilac, but anyway, they must be sweetly scented.

PAPA IN BLOOM
PHOTOGALLERY has documented another remarkable series of Papa portraits, this time from the audience of March 15, of which the following 3 are just a sampling. Paparaxvi and Paparatzifan have mounted a great selection in FOTO DA PAPA.

P.S. These pictures were posted first in PICTURES AND VIDEOS - and I am sure no one minds the repetition - because I thought I was posting on GOOD MORNING.

P.P.S. In the French section, under "Noels, voeux, fetes, celebrations", Beatrice has prepared a flash animation production using the Photogallery selection - to the music of Mozart's C-major piano sonata - to greet our Papa on his name day tomororw, March 19, which is also the 11th-month anniversary of his Papacy.

GREAT PHOTOS!!!

He is most definitely adorable! And his hair has grown back to its normal length. It looks absolutely beautiful in the first purple photo. In the second photo, I think he was watching 3 children approach him during Mass. He is so good with kids! Such a doll!!

I love purple!!!!!
Thanks very much, Lutheranguest, for that series from yesterday's Mass - lovely close-ups.
I've decided I do like Papa's purple/ slightly blue/silver thread chasuble. Very fetching!
I do hope that Nan and Simone had a good view in Saint Peter's during that Mass.
Isn't it wonderful and Christian that we can rejoice with each other when someone is in Rome! This is how it should be.

I cannot believe I failed to lift this photo when Paparatzifan posted it last week! So to make up for it, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. thrice. It's a companion piece, really, to the B/W 'Earth has not anything to show more fair' photo, and I also think it is a rarity - a color photo of Ratzi in Archbishop-purple scheme rather than cardinal-red! He was Archbishop for such a short time before he was named Cardinal, so most of the photos we have of him as pre-cardinal Archbishop are in B/W - and we know how ravishing those are....

Everytime I see pictures of Ratzi at the time he became Archbishop and then Cardinal within a few months, I am overwhelmed by a wave of gratitude to dear Pope Paul VI who obviously saw more than promise in this young professor to have given him two signal honors within the same year! Can you imagine if Ratzi had named a 50-year-old to be one of his new cardinals what a sensation it would have been?

"...most of the photos we have of him as pre-cardinal Archbishop are in B/W - and we know how ravishing those are...."

Uh, I would say these archbishop photos in purple are pretty darn ravishing. Actually, I don't think it is humanly possible to get more ravishing than this. This is sublimely ravishing!

In fact, I can't imagine how he was in Munich as cardinal/archbishop for 4 or 5 years without 90% of the women in Germany camped outside his door.

PRAYER CARD!
Another instant prayer-card!

Mary-Jos, surely you can put something to "override" the profimedia mark, and fill the whole area on the left with an appropriate prayer?

P.S. TO EVERYONE - Nessuna has enlarged the "ravishing Archbishop" photo in her FOTOGALERIA.

Ideal prayer card material!
This beautifully contemplative photo is indeed ideal prayer card material! I'll have a go when I've got more time. I'll also try to removed the watermark; not sure if I can do that.
That whole Mass on Sunday was extraordinary! Although I suppose some people appreciate the translation and Sister Janet Fearns is certainly clever, I was pleased that she remained silent during the Eucharistic Prayer.
Un abbraccio a tutte amice!
