I don't know why some Muslim be upset by a non-practicing Italian to convert to Catholism. Personally, being educated in a Catholic mission, and remain a committed Muslim - shows that there is nothing for Vatican to celebrate on one conversion. In Muslim country, it's customery for many non-baised parents to send their children to Christian schools - to let them appreciate the true nature of other Abrahamic religions - and then feel proud to be follower of the best among them.
Like myself - Pakistan's president Gen. Pervez Musharraf, the Lenin Prize holder poet, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, the first Chief Justice of Pakistan and many top miltary generals were all former students of Christian schools. Similar situation exist in other Muslim countries, like Egypt, Indonesia, Lebanon, Iraq, etc. Their being remain Muslims - could be a slap on Zionist Christians, who publicized this simple event as if Iranian president Ahmadinejad has converted to Catholism - though it doesn't matter either - because, Islam is still attracting more convert than any other religion - 600 million in 1960s and now more than 1.5 billion of them. In the US, it's roughly 10,000 converts per year.
The interesting part though is that the majority of converts to Islam are women.
