Hi there fellow Italians!

We're a couple of guys from Sweden that will attend the Itaslia tournament in June. The week before that we will do some traveling and look at historical museums, battlefields and stuff.

We are traveling by car and will rent a cabin for a few days; first somewhere in the Cassino area and later in the Carimate area.

Do you have some "must see" in these areas? Preferably something WWII:ish, but not necessarily.

Please let me know if you have any advices in any way!

See you in June,
/Andreas

Hi
great!!!...a big travel from Sweden to Cassino and then back in Carimate.

When the 2nd WW was over, the battle did not reach the North of Italy. here there was a lot of Partisans, but no museum or something like this near Carimate.
I can propose you some other interesting place to visit when you go back to Carimate:

ANZIO...a nice museum: MUSEUM

Passo della Futa ..an impressive german cemetary. It is in the midle of the Ghotic Line: Futa Pass

...and some other...but you have a week and not a year [SM=g27965]

... near Carimate, 50 mins with car, on the Lake of Como there is the place where MUSSOLINI was killed when he tried to reach the Switzerlan.

so...I wait you and the official registration to the tournament at the homepage :

Itaslia - Carimasl

ciao

As an Italian thinking everywhere and everytime of food, if you'll visit the futa pass, you could stop at the Futa pass restaurant http://www.passodellafuta.it/
I suggest:
appetizier: crostini mistini
main course: "ribollita"
second course: fiorentina (not less then 1 kg!!!) with fried chips and beans all'uccelletto e/o in fiasco
Wine: local Chianti at least "una campana" (o fiasco)
Beware! After that you are going to need about 3-4 hours of rest :) and then you can try to go away.
P.S.
It is about two years that I don't go there, but I have always eaten very well. If you decide to stop, I'll call the restaurant's boss and I'll can book for you and spend a good word in your favour. Drop me an email in this case.
Welcome to Itaslia :)

In Cassino
You can visit in Cassino:
the Abbey, but it's open two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon; when it is closed the Monks pray.
The hill with the Iànula castle
The Polish war cimitery,
the Commonwealth war cimitery,
the German war cimitery.
The museum http://www.museohistoriale.org/

The battlefield of Sant'Angelo in Theodice but I do not know nothing about this; but you can ask news
http://www.memoriatours.com/index.php/it/
and also, if you like, romans ruins.

Thank you guys, much appreciated!
I wish we had a month or two in Italy, there's so much to see and the food is heavenly... You shure know how to live the good life. :) However, there will be more visits.

Panzerkart; Italian food is wonderful! Of course we accept you suggestion and I'll contact you when we know the time and date.

Talking about food and wine; Are there any special vineyards you should visit? Do they sell vine at the vineyards as well?

Cheers!

Sure, a more cheaply solution if you want to buy some bottle of wine.
If ever you come to Piedmont I can give you more information [SM=g27959]

In italy the major battles were not near big cities, and now remains very very little to see regarding that time.

if you have a week, after cassino I suggest that you spend 2-3 days in Rome, then possibly goiing up 1 days in perugia, 1 day in florence and finally you can reach carimate. from there as a base you can go to milano, lecco, como and other places..

ciao

I am sorry to say that we will not be able to make it this year. Due to work and other "important" factors we have to postpone our visit.

Hopefully we'll see each other next year! :)

Cheers, and roll low,
/andreas
