Le prime esperienze di moto di Ryuichi risalgono al 1988, quando lui aveva solo 6 anni.
Nel 2002 ha vinto il titolo nel Japanese SuperSport Championship.
Nel Aprile 2003 si è classificato secondo nel World SuperSport a Sugo, Japan, dove ha preso parte alla Wild Cart.
E' venuto poi in Europa e ha iniziato con Jerez dove si è classificato 11esimo nel 2003 e ha ufficialmente preso parte del team Telefonica MoviStar Honda.

Ha preso parte al suo primo motoGP a Le Mans solo due settimane dopo, guidando la RC 211V Honda versione clienti e si classificò bene da prendere subito punti.

1988-1990 (6-8 year old) Rode a Motocross Bike and became interested in motorcycling. Participated in MX races with his friends.
1991-1995 (9-13 year old) He was the first student of the Suzuka Racing School (SRS-J). As a member of the SRS-J, he took part in local races and in GP80cc races.
1996 Suzuka and Tsukuba GP80cc class Champion.
1997 Tsukuba Championship GP125B class Champion.
1998 26th in the 125cc All Japan Championship.
1999 23rd in the 125cc All Japan Championship.
2000 Joined Team Kotake RSC. 20th in the 250cc All Japan Championship. 2nd in the Suzuka 8 Hours XF class.
2001 16th in the 250cc All Japan Championship.
2002 All Japan Champion ST600 class (Supersport). 10th JSB 1000 Class All Japan Championship. Winner of round 8 All Japan Superbike Championship at Tanaka.
2003 2nd in the Sugo World Supersport round as a wild-card. Signs for the Telefonica Movistar Honda team alongside Sete Gibernau.
