LVRIN/MAOUPA MAZZOCCHETTI Split EP 12"
Arma continues to explore the dark and wild corners of contemporary machine music via a new split 12" featuring LVRIN and Maoupa Mazzocchetti. LVRIN occupies a sound world where blown out boxes spit out gnarled beats and slimy basslines through an overdriven desk, with the ghosts of post punk and industrial looming over his nocturnal incantations. Maoupa Mazzocchetti has been weaving defiantly unconventional strains of electronic music since first emerging on Unknown Precept and Mannequin. He delivers three rugged, body-poppin'' grooves to the B side.

MOGARD, ABUL Works 2LP
2019 repress. Ecstatic offer a deeply arresting and definitive collection of Works by erstwhile Serbian factory worker-turned-synthesist Abul Mogard; containing selections from two cassettes released in 2012 and 2013 on Steve Moore and Anthony Paterra's VCO Recordings, as well as a cassette only release on Ecstatic, never before available on vinyl. Abul Mogard's relatively unusual path to releasing music is well documented, but bears repeating here. Upon taking retirement from a job at a factory which he held for decades, Mogard craved the mechanical noise and complex harmonics of the industrial workplace, and found that the best way to fulfil that need was through electronic music - using a limited set-up of Farfisa organs, voices, samplers and a self-built modular system to realize a peaceful yet haunting, sweetly coruscating sound that resonates uncommonly with music from Leyland Kirby to Alessandro Cortini, or Fennesz and Tim Hecker. The nine tracks on Works are soused in an emotional richness that's hard to forget once experienced. Broad daubs of distorted bass and naturally glorious harmonic progressions paint panoramas of wide open, grey-scaled skies whilst equally conveying the intimate feel of a person with their nose to the machine, toiling for a sound or feeling that really means something to them, and by turns, us. The fact that Mogard hails from an area hardly well-known for its synth music, and that he's of an age where most people take up gardening or lawn bowls, rather than synth music, only helps to aid the enigma and magic surrounding this remarkable artist and his layered, emotional music. RIYL: Alessandro Cortini, The Caretaker, Fennesz, Tangerine Dream, Brain Eno, Tim Hecker.

VA Plastic Dance 2: Domestic Synth Pop & Patchbay Punk Compiled by Andy Votel & Doug Shipton LP
"... Let's talk about the dangerous counterrevolutionaries who went out and bought a cheap synth and a rudimentary drum machine. The ones that got what 'punk' was really about. The democratization of art . . . Sniffing Glue said learn three chords and form a band, Throbbing Gristle said why learn any chords at all... I am an artist because I say I am. More Marcel Duchamp than Malcolm McLaren. So, sisters and brothers, who do you think led the counter-revolution? Well I'll tell you. It was the man who stormed the Bastille and kicked the door down in the first place and he did it on the July 16th, 1977. With the help of Tommy Vance. John Lydon's playlist that night on Vance's show included Tim Buckley, The Creation, Augustus Pablo, Bobby Byrd, Neil Young, Lou Reed, Peter Hammill, and Can and put paid to any punk rock 'year zero' claims. Meanwhile, locked out of the studio, Malcolm had to listen to the counterrevolutionary manifesto being broadcast across the metropolis. Mark that date in your diaries, sisters and brothers: 16th July, the anniversary of the birth of 'post punk'. Just over a year later in October, Lydon rammed the point home with the release of Public Image, a personal and musical manifesto in 7" form. The music on Plastic Dance 2 is the strangely colored, distorted, and frighteningly beautiful fruit of the seeds planted on that fateful day. Lessons learned and inspiration taken from the sonic aesthetics of dub, knowing that not all disco sucked and that even jazz was allowed. Music shaped by wonky approximation and appropriation. The artists on Plastic Dance 2 were artists because they said they were. Listen to their work and you'll know they were. Listen in transcendent wonderment as George Attwell creates alchemical space funk in his home studio... as a future Mock Turtle and members of The Manchester Music Collective channel Robert Calvert and Bill Nelson... as Korzynski comes on like a Jeff Mills remix of Terry Riley. Listen in the wide-eyed joy of being as Stabat Stable's drum machine runs amok to the accompaniment of discordant organ stabs... as a future founder of 808 State channels Albert Ayler alongside a galloping synth arpeggio." --Andrew WeatherallThe second volume in the Plastic Dance series compiled by Andy Votel and Doug Shipton. Featuring exclusive liner notes by Andrew Weatherall. Features George Atwell, Vibrant Thigh, Stabat Stable, Cos, Beach Surgeons, Cosmic Overdose, Andrzej Korzynski, Ti-Tho, Gerry And The Holograms, and pragVEC.

GOOD MISSIONARIES, THE Pylons LP
"'The hipness and success of London punk-explosion photocopy fanzine Sniffin' Glue was almost entirely due to the irreverent, pugnacious sincerity of its founder/spark-plug Mark Perry. That Perry should form a band (Alternative TV) seemed a natural progression; that it was any good at all a surprise; that it maintained a stance utterly disdainful of compromise a small miracle.' The Good Missionaries emerged, phoenix-like, from the ashes of Alternative TV (ATV). They released one live album Fire From Heaven, before ATV founder Mark Perry left. Ex-ATV guitarist/vocalist Dave George and bassist Keith Rodway continued the band, with several line-up changes during those days. The Good Missionaries toured and gigged with such bands as The Fall, The Pop Group, Crass, Scritti Politti, Delta Five, Poison Girls, Nik Turner's Inner City Unit and The Transmitters. Which in retrospect makes sense, as their post-punk/dub/experimental inclinations dovetails perfectly with the music those more storied bands (more successful bands) were making at the time. The Good Missionaries released several singles on their own Unnormality label, before splitting in 1982. The majority of the tracks on Pylons were recorded at Street Level Studios by Grant Showbiz, late 1979 to early 1981. They feature the second and third incarnations of the Good Missionaries, with Mark Perry playing drums on four of the tracks, alongside an appearance by ex-ATV bassist Dennis Burns. Pylons should have been released in 1981 -- it would no doubt have featured on many lists of post-punk classic albums had that been the case. Now, nearly 40 years later, it is seeing the light of day for the first time. Influenced by the likes of PIL, The Pop Group, James Chance & The Contortions as well as The Gang of Four, it bridges the gap between the end of punk and the start of an experimental new wave era. Limited edition of 500 copies that comes with poster insert with archive band photos and sleeve notes by the Good Missionaries' Keith Rodway. First ever release of this long-lost UK post-punk classic."

REININGER, BLAINE L. Madchen In Koffer (And Other Results) CD
"Blaine L. Reininger needs no special introduction. He is an American post-punk, new-wave and alternative pop singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist (particularly violin), writer and performer. He is known for being a member of the group Tuxedomoon since 1977 after co-founding it with Steven Brown and, latterly, for a notable music and theatre career, both as a soloist and contributor to other artists' recordings, including The Durutti Column, Snakefinger, Anna Domino, Savage Republic or Paul Haig. After learning the violin and guitar during childhood and studying music theory in San Francisco, Reininger formed the band Tuxedomoon with composer, singer, musician and college-mate Steven Brown and appeared on early albums such as Half Mute, Desire and Suite En Sous-Sol before departing early in 1983 to pursue a solo career. He permanently rejoined Tuxedomoon in 1988 and has subsequently appeared on more recent recordings such as Vapour Trails, issued in 2007 by independent label Crammed Discs. In 2015 Reininger's friend Albrecht Hirche shot his first feature film, a raod movie entitled Mädchen in Koffer. Blaine contributed the soundtrack which is surprisingly song based and put it on his Bandcamp page in 2018. Klanggalerie are now very happy to present you the first CD version of this music. In addition to the score, we have chosen another 9 tracks from Blaine's vast archive to make this a full-length album."

BLABBERMOUTH Horspiel LP
LP version. A new project from Lu Edmonds (PiL, Mekons, The Damned, et al.) and Mark Roberts (The Godfathers, D-Ream, Neneh Cherry, et al.) -- a multilingual spoken-word album, a musical hear-play ("hörspiel") exploring the underbelly of modern life, alternative histories and the allegedly imminent take-over of the world by artificial intelligence. In a loose nod to German radio-plays of the 1920s, the album Hörspiel uses semi-random texts culled from the interweb, performed by synthetic speech-robots using questionable online machine translations (Chinese, Russian, French, English, Tuvan, Japanese, German, Hindi, Spanish, Turkish etc.) while Blabbermouth provide a soundtrack of ambient, industrial, pop, world, folk, free improv soundscape, and post-punk.

BLUE ANGEL LOUNGE, THE Narcotica LP
2019 repress; LP version. While staying true to their Nico and Velvet Underground- inspired colors, broader timeless inspiration of new wave, post-punk, and shoegaze are accentuated throughout Blue Angel Lounge's release, Narcotica. The band present a strong balance between relatively up-tempo songs such as "Caught Crow" or "Delete My Ideals" and the atmospheric and psychedelic in tracks "I Will Never" and 'Son of the Ocean." Narcotica was self-produced with the assistance of Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre). Mr. Newcombe can be heard singing backing vocals on "Delete My Ideals."

Vukovar - Cremator CD ←
Artist: VUKOVAR
Title: Cremator
Format: CD Digipak
Genre: Post-punk, Indie Rock, Leftfield, Industrial, Experimental

Cremator is the 7th LP by Vukovar and marks The First Death of the group: the ending of the Shades incarnation/incarceration.

Heavily featuring are Simon Morris of The Ceramic Hobs, also an author of grotesque (and often touching), confessional brilliance on Philip Best's Amphetamine Sulphate imprint. As well as Holly Hero; some-time performer of Smell & Quim and responsible for the production of their most vital work.

VUKOVAR formed in 2014 in a crumbling placefiller town in the North West of England and set about creating their own world within an otherworld. In their short yet eternal time, they have been relentlessly productive; ‘Cremator’ being the 7th full LP after their highly well-received previous 6: (‘Emperor', 'Voyeurism', 'Fornication', ‘Puritan’, ‘Infinitum’, ‘Monument’). They have had amongst their ranks Michael Cashmore (CURRENT 93 / NATURE & ORGANISATION), Rose McDowall (STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE / COIL / PSYCHIC TV / CURRENT 93 / DEATH IN JUNE / BOYD RICE AND FRIENDS), collaborated with 80's b-movie star Dawn Wildsmith, and actor, TV writer and man of all round good taste Graham Duff and others.

This is an essential release by a group at the peak of their creative powers moving on ever forward in increasingly surprising ways.

Great for fans of old-school post-punk as well as Swans, Coil, Piano Magic

E T'AIME

(Post Punk / New Wave - PARIS)

(MD112 - Digipack / Vinyl / Digital)
~OUT MAY 13~

Formed in Paris, JE T’AIME (Dany Boy, Tall Bastard and Crazy Z) released their debut single “The Sound” in the Spring of 2018. Following the enthusiastic public reception of this first recording, the band chose a secluded spot on the coast of Brittany to focus on a more major work. Weeks of sleepless summer nights in the pursuit of new sounds result in the creation of eleven new tracks: the sound a post-punk cold wave hybrid, reminiscent of the great Mancunian Factory era and suffused with hints of the Smiths.

NOVA ET VETERA

"Au-Delà"

(Post Punk / Tribal Goth - France)

(MD110 - Vinyl / Digital)
~SCHEDULED ON MAY 25~

Nova Et Vetera started as a trio in the late 90’s bridging a gap somewhere between gothic rock, tribal percussion, and performance art. Yearning to create music and a live performance that they would want to see, the group relies heavily on macabre lyrics, pounding ceremonial percussion and angular guitars to create a a musical experience that is felt as much as it is heard. Their sound is menacing, ritualistic and bleak.

After three self released EPs and two LPs "Dead Waltz" (2013) and "Lightnings" (2016) released on Manic Depression Records, Nova Et Vetera will release their last album "Au-Delà", which is the result of their musical experiments; poetic, tribal, but also rock, catchy, melodic and mesmerising, a very beautiful farewell...

Making Beds

Available in July from Grotesque Figurines

The third full length release by America's rising masters of electronically flavored psych folk post punk. What does David E. Williams say? "Our band's most adventurous flight into the sonosphere. Recorded, engineered and mixed by Micheal "kellzo" Kelly in October 2018 in a Quaker church in the Pennsylvania countryside. Produced by Tony Cesa and and Michael Kelly. Mastered by James Plotkin.
Tony Cesa- electric 12 string guitar, synthesizer, sampler and vocals

U.K. SUBS Endangered Species LP
Beat Generation presents a reissue of the U.K. Subs' Endangered Species, originally released in 1982. The Subs' fourth studio album is considered by many of the band´s fans their finest moments, and there´s many reasons why it could very well be: the record´s powerful sound (courtesy of the production of the band's Nicky Garratt) did justice to a band on top of their game, recording some of the best songs of their career. With Endangered Species, the legendary UK punk outfit proved their songwriting skills were extremely sharpened and ready to cut! From classic punk numbers like "Endangered Species", "Living Dead", "Lie Down And Die" or "I Robot" to slower stompers like "Countdown" or "Down On The Farm" (infamously covered by Guns ´n` Roses on The Spaghetti Incident (1993)), the record is strong proof of what the Subs are capable! There´s even space for a bit of post punk in great tracks like "Sensitive Boys"! No self-respecting punk should let this one pass, up The Subs!

VON SPAR Under Pressure CD
"It's the terror of knowing what this world is about," David Bowie sang in 1981, backed by Queen. He performed the remarkable feat of taking a song with such lyrics and creating a hit. Von Spar's Under Pressure also knows what this world is about, with its intimidatory posturing, acute social competition and the fight for survival as we enter an age of surveillance capitalism. The music's inherent urgency is in evidence from the very first beat, yet it still appears to float freely, creating space for reflection and self-interrogation. What others call a "band", Von Spar see as a modular system. The creative community of Sebastian Blume, Jan Philipp Janzen, Christopher Marquez, and Phillip Tielsch is in a state of constant flux. Von Spar is an interface, providing access to rediscovery and fresh experience of, to all intents and purposes, the familiar. Under Pressure is their fifth album, not counting their homage to Can (recorded live with Stephen Malkmus). 15 years have passed since their debut Die Uneingeschränkte Freiheit Der Privaten Initiative (2004), five since Streetlife (2014). On closer examination, there is a chameleonesque quality to Von Spar's discography. Their records are the result of continuous metamorphosis, opening wormholes to post punk, krautrock and '80s art pop. The constants: rhythmic refinement and harmonic quantum leaps, swirling synthesizer arpeggios, backwards guitars with no hint of retrogradation. The eight songs on Under Pressure were recorded in Von Spar's Dumbo Studio in Cologne, with various guests from adding noteworthy contributions. As on Streetlife, the formative voice belongs to Chris A. Cummings aka Marker Starling. His distinctive falsetto graces over half of the songs, asking: "Is there a cure for this/Unhappiness, happiness?" On the opening track, Cummings is joined by Eiko Ishibashi (Kafka's Ibiki, Jim O'Rourke, Merzbow) in a Japanese dream sequence exploring where they might get to if the shackles of the flesh are cast off. Punk and reggae professor Vivien Goldman (The Flying Lizards) picks up the thread and liberates herself from the ghosts of the past on "Boyfriends (Dead Or Alive)". Lætitia Sadier (Stereolab) sings on the album's kraut-pop hit "Extend The Song" which could run and run for ever, powered by motoric energy: "If someone would ask me/Could I go on?" Less answers, more questions -- this is the song's greatest leitmotif. It is left to low-fi maverick R. Stevie Moore to pose the question on "Falsetto Giuseppe" "Should I worry?" Of course!" --Arno Raffeiner

PETERS, MARK New Routes Out Of Innerland CD
Former Engineers songwriter Mark Peters pays a final visit to his debut solo album Innerland (SCR 094CD/LP, 2018) with the release of New Routes Out Of Innerland, a collection of reworkings. Innerland was one of 2018's most surprising sleeper successes. An intentionally low-key album of windswept instrumentals inspired by Mark's move back to his native northwest, it gave musical nods to Eno, Talk Talk, Vini Reilly, and Richard Thompson, and first appeared as a limited-edition cassette before being expanded to vinyl and CD editions in April of 2018. Something about its beautiful simplicity struck a chord and slowly but surely. This new version, however, is completely different. It finds Mark looking outwards, away from the bleak, post-industrial landscapes of Wigan, and inviting eight different artists from around the world to interpret and translate the instrumentals of Innerland into their own musical and geographical languages. German sound artist Andi Otto takes "Twenty Bridges" and turns it into a weird world music groove, the cello recalling Arthur Russell, the rhythm Holger Czukay circa Movies (1979); Polish composer Olga Wojciechowska sprinkles stardust all over "Mann Island", morphing it into a slice of febrile, filmic techno; former Disappears and now FACS frontman Brian Case wrangles "Windy Arbour" into a dark, dystopian drone; as previously heard last year on a limited edition lathe-cut 7" single, Ulrich Schnauss subtly re-frames "May Mill" as elegiac electronica, the kind of oddity that could have graced a Tears For Fears B-side circa Songs From The Big Chair (1985); Moon Gangs, aka Will Young from BEAK>, climbs "Gabriel's Ladder" and finds some delicate drone'n'bass; American producer and DJ Odd Nosdam takes his experience of working with Boards Of Canada and turns "Shaley Brow" into a sinister tape collage, entirely in keeping with the murky history of the locale; E Ruscha V, the erstwhile Medicine guitarist also known as Secret Circuit, converts "Cabin Hill" into Balearic Blue Nile; finally, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma lights up "Ashurst's Beacon" as an inferno of deliciously distorted shoegaze. All eight are so disparate and yet they hang together perfectly, resulting in an exciting musical journey to somewhere completely new.

ADRIANI, ALESSANDRO Morphic Dreams CD
Hot on the heels of his preliminary EP on Stroboscopic Artefacts and two years after the landing of his 2016-released inaugural LP, Montagne Trasparenti, Mannequin helmsman Alessandro Adriani returns with his highly anticipated full-length debut for Stroboscopic Artefacts, Morphic Dreams. Throughout eleven cuts painstakingly executed but lacking not an iota of the fresh, spontaneous oomph that made his sound stand out of the crowd of techno producers to have emerged over the past decade, Adriani lays the foundations to a suspended sound imaginarium, governed by its own rules and principles of gravity. Revolving around the notions of sublimation and quest for inner balance, Morphic Dreams is comprised of four distinct sequences, conceived and designed as reflections of four mental states, each of them linked to the four alchemical elements -- i.e. Water, Earth, Air and FireFluid and enveloping, the first part takes the listener in some zero-G uterine vortex, pitching, and rolling from the slo-burning exotic sensuality and tribal spell of "The Tropical Year" to the trunk-bending, arpeggiated fast-track pulse of "Storm Trees", through the feverish electro swing of "Raindance". Entering a further abrasive, minerally rich phase, Adriani unleashes his dark side with optimum conviction. Deeply anchored in earthly materiality, this new evolution stage starts off to the frantic Italo bass of "Dissolving Images", rushing headlong into a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of fractured reflections and nasty giallo-like ambience. The delirious body stretch sequence then rather abruptly swerves onto a calmer flux with "Dust/Mist", a much enticingly hip-swaying collaboration with Simon Crab, ex-member of the seminal '80s UK industrial-experimental band Bourbonese Qualk, before "Casting The Runes" engulfs you into a tormented world of swollen eeriness and disquieting esoterism. Back to a widescreen showcase of drone-y distortions, nasty acid swashes and other quirky drum programming, "Hors De Combat" opens a new chapter, shortly followed by the playful bass intricacies and modular jeu-de-piste of "Invisible Seekers", featuring Avian affiliate and longtime friend Shawn O'Sullivan. A further mind-expanding piece, "Crow" deploys its blackened wings wide and high as a chaos of martial percussions and liquefying synths slivers crash past the red-hot skyline. A fluttering melodic interlude, "Things About To Disappear" blazes a clean trail for "Make Words Split And Crack" to flourish, slowly but surely blooming into a nonstop grandiose twelve-minute-shy finale geared up with the stirring cacophonic force of a Ligetian symphony and something of an epic-scale Kubrickian soundtrack.

"Popped up in the Spring of 2018 with the explosive first single “The Sound”, Paris-based cold post-punk 3-piece, made of Dany Boy, Tall Bastard and Crazy Z, struck back this April with the equally brilliant “Dance”, enhanced appetites for the announced self/titled debut full-length.
While not shying away from their early 80s influences, the 11 tracks are filled with sharp, bleak yet fresh post-punk at its finest and sheer form, instantly catchy while fully maintaining its grit and edge from the first to the last note, releasing all its energy and emotional charge, to create hopelessly magnetic, fascinating and gloomy atmospheres blending glassy synths, blistering guitars, spine-tingling bass, propulsive drumbeats and anguished vocals.[..]'

Altar De Fey - Original Sin LP/CD/T-shirt ←
Artist: ALTAR DE FEY
Title: Original Sin : An Anthology Of The Early Years
Format: LP / CD / T-shirt
Genre: Post-punk, Deathrock, Gothic Rock
Ref: Christian Death, 45 Grave, Kommunity FK, Burning Image

Release is scheduled for August 2019, but you can pre-order it now at special price and help label rising funds for production.

Altar De Fey originated in San Francisco in the early 1980’s as part of the emerging musical form that would come to be known as Deathrock. Out of the Zeitgeist flash of 70’s Punk Rock the new sound took the darkest elements of the counter culture into ever deeper, gloomier and more mature territory.

Performing at legendary San Francisco venues Mabuhay Gardens, Graffiti, The Nightbreak and the rest billed with Christian Death, 45 Grave, and all the fellow architects of West Coast Post Punk.

The original incarnation passed through a rotating cast of characters centered strongly by the vision and experimental guitar of founding member Kent Cates. Eschewing the conventional chord progression/solo form entirely Cates’s guitar spins strands of melody and rhythm, tone and texture in a style that to this day is all his own. The mood was perfected with the innovative tribal drumming of Aleph Kali and Butch Mason’s haunted confrontational vocals.

Though the band had a strong base of support, no original recordings were ever released and the young members carried on into new musical endeavors. By 1988 ADF disbanded.

Years upon years passed yet the name was never completely forgotten. As Goth Punk culture persisted, grew and developed over time the band began to take on a kind of legendary hue among fans in the know; The lost mysterious phenomenon of Altar De Fey. -There was a kind of poetry to it. Finally in 2011, when asked if they would play a reunion for a festival in San Francisco Kent and Aleph surprised everyone by answering yes.

Reforming originally as a 2 piece with a drum machine Kent on guitar and Aleph on vocals to an enthusiastic reception, the duo enjoyed it so much they decided to continue the momentum and quickly added Skot Brown on bass, Aleph switched over to live drums, and Jake Hout was added on vocals. The new line up debuted in April of 2012 and has continued regularly performing songs from the original 80’s catalogue and steadily adding new material ever since.

A new generation of underground Deathrock music is growing across the world, in closer, more direct communication than ever before, and interest in the band has quickly escalated.

This unique compilation brings you 11 original ADF songs recorded between 1984-1986 (demos, rehearsal records, live records). If you are into classic Christian Death, 45 Grave, Kommunity FK, Burning Image etc. grab this gem now before it's too late!

His Name Is Alive - All The Mirrors In The House (Early Recordings 1979-1986) LP

Label: Disciples

Release Date: June 21st, 2019

Transcendental tape loops and bedroom ambient dream states from the teenage mind of Warren Defever aka His Name Is Alive. All The Mirrors In The House is the first of three projected releases of very early works by the Detroit-based savant, prior to signing to 4AD in the late-1980s. With help transferring ageing cassettes and annotating the results from Shelley Salant of Tyvek, the unearthed results are revelatory - a gorgeous sequence of gently decaying tone float made with an incredibly primitive DIY set-up.

As Defever recounts in the liner notes: "By age ten, I had a tape recorder and was using it to capture the sounds of nearby lakes, thunderstorms, and my older brother's LP collection played at the wrong speeds. As a teenager, I got deep into all kinds of music - punk, new age, blues - and played bass in the high school jazz band, as well as studying Bach chorale harmonization and counterpoint. My first album consists of rhythm tracks made of loops of the next door neighbor raking leaves and shoveling the driveway with echoey guitars and vocals with lyrics about ghosts."

Inner sleeve essay and interview by Mike McGonigal, the founder of Chemical Balance magazine and YETI publishing, and the author of acclaimed books on My Bloody Valentine and Galaxie 500. RIYL: Eno Ambient series, William Basinski, Kranky Records

TERRINE Cheat Days LP
"Cheat Days is the new release by Terrine (aka Claire Gapenne, also in Headwar), part techno noise and part bedroom freak électronique. Cheat Days is pressed at 45RPM for maximum heaviness and delight. Nothing ever really runs like clockwork in Gapenne's weird and wonderful world. The Tinker Bell of French noise, her magic whip has the power to turn one into a horse drawn carriage or an old pumpkin. A hyperactive activist and artist, she has been part of Accueil Froid for the past seven years in Amiens. This collective has invited the best of experimental rock to their town, eyes and ears wide open in a place where there is (almost) nothing except pretty canals and unemployment. Her music releases pressure valves and opens a perspective onto infinite possibilities. Though known for manhandling her bass as part of Headwar and has made her mark in numerous groups with delightfully silly names (Snif Nazal, Couteau Twins, and Me Donner), the riotous Terrine has paved a path for herself with constancy and determination. Turning up where least expected, she changes the game plan according to her art and the people she meets, increasingly preoccupied with defying genre, nimbly and tactfully skipping from one style to the next. With the aptly titled Cheat Days, she has concocted a disorientating mix of stunted techno, limping dub and piano-wave improv. Though one could imagine she would dive head first into EBM and post-industrial techno, she now takes a completely different direction with this album; everything is guarded, the approach is minimalist and intensely personal. Between gusts of peripheral noise captured on the go, she dares to combine Cabaret Voltaire and Pascal Comelade, and The Shadow Ring, a St Vitus' dance and a disembodied rave, slow-burning dub and digital crackle, electronic no-wave and jumble sale tech. Too subtle to jerk about on the BPM assembly line, her music is etched upon a backdrop behind which an old piano is hidden, dusty and busted. The only captain of her ship, she uses modest means to fashion cutting edge sound design and summon heavy dancefloor artillery. Stacked with resources and buzzing with a wealth of projects, Claire Gapenne has progressively become one of the most crucial (and jovial) figures of the DIY underground." --Julien Bécourt RIYL: Cabaret Voltaire, Wolf Eyes, Pascal Comelade.

PAWNS Monuments Of Faith 7"
Following up their well-received The Gallows (2017), New York City's anarcho-deathrock hybrid Pawns return with three new tracks. Against the landscape drawn up by '80s-influenced post-punk, Pawns exchange full-on punk rage for a gloomy animosity by exploring dark and desperate melodies. Bass-heavy rhythms and choral guitar tones are topped off by vocalist Gage Allison's ominous baritone vocals in a rich maelstrom of bleak gothic punk. 300 gram card sleeve with spine and lyric insert.

VON SPAR Under Pressure LP
LP version.

VA Elaste Volume 04 2LP
2019 repress; Double LP version. "In this compilation I am inaugurating a style: vintage futurism. The best metaphor for this genre is Charanjit Singh's 1982 album Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat, in which he created a sound which mirrors, but more importantly pre-dates, the first acid-house record by five years. It is no novelty record, but truly captures the hypnotic potential of acid/house music. It became my key track for Elaste Volume 04. Previous incarnations of Elaste have aimed to catch the spirit of the late '70s Italian cosmic discotheque, a place where the history of DJing was rewritten. For this latest installment, I was most intrigued by weird of-the-time (or 'out-of' as the case turned out to be) electronic disco, a vast genre that brings together those progressive avant-garde tracks that were expanding the genres of house, disco, acid, new wave. I ultimately use Elaste as a vehicle to highlight those tracks that were ahead of their time. These legendary works range from 1978 to 1996, a wide spectrum of musical history in which some of the older tracks may sound modern, and newer ones may sound vintage. Many of these authentic back-to-the-aural-future moments were initial sparks for whole genres -- Larry Heard's Disco-D alias happened just before house music. Greg Wilson's 1984 project Equip was produced for a UK electro compilation, but never made the LP because it sounded too futuristic. Michael Rinder's 'Gluttony' can't be called disco any more -- not even post-disco. For Elaste Volume 4, we have built vintage futurism as a home for these ultramodern mavericks." --Dompteur MoonerArtists include: Charanjit Singh, C Cat Trance, Cybotron, Rinder & Lewis, Barbara Norris, Nad, Equip, Sandee, Disco D, and Dopplereffekt. Includes a vinyl-only bonus track by Tambien.

VITELLI, COSMO Holiday In Panikstrasse Part 1 12"
Cosmo Vitelli hasn't slept since 1973. Instead, he's replaced slumber with the tireless exploration of electronic music, sharing his finds as an accomplished DJ and label manager as well as an esteemed producer, with heaps of records, remixes, and edits under his belt. With his upcoming two-part LP release on Malka Tuti, Cosmo brings forward his more diverse and somehow mature musical side, combining elements of post-punk, krautrock, electronica, and pop on this first of two four-track records. The songs on the LP transcend style and genre. They manage to hold and playfully sustain an idea that echoes throughout them all -- a musical "saying" as well as a personal life experience, and they reflect Cosmo's prolific studio work of the past two years since he moved to Berlin. On the opening song "A Brand New City" he collaborates with longtime friend Julienne Dessagne (aka Fantastic Twins). Dessagne's vocals cut through the quirky and addictive percussion groove and synth sequence, leading to a strong emotional melancholic melodic catharsis. On the following two songs, "Groupe Surdose" and "Die Alraune", you'll find Cosmo collaborating with Sebastian Lee Philipp (of Die Wilde Jagd fame) to show his more post-rock/krautrock side. "Groupe Surdose" is an instant classic slow burning dance floor krautrock tune while in "Die Alruane" you find poetic German lyrics sung by Lee-Philipp on top of organic grooves, guitars, and an epic saxophone line that together create a distinctive highlight for the record. The closing track "Kuldip" is the curve ball of them all, sealing the first part of his album with a Mediterranean mid-tempo dance tune for the selectors and the Middle-Eastern inspired electro aficionados. 180 gram vinyl.

A SAGITTARIUN Return To Telepathic Heights LP
A Sagittariun's third album chronicles the journey back to "Telepathic Heights"; an expedition that encounters many obstacles along the way. The feuding parties of the two planets make for a journey of determination and self-discovery for our techno lone ranger that will ultimately deliver him to the sacred site on which "Telepathic Heights" stands. Conceived as a space western soundtrack to the cinematic interpretation of this tale, Return To Telepathic Heights delivers ten chapters that journal the ultimate mission to reach the imposing tower of "Telepathic Heights", where dream telepathy has become the primary communicative tool amongst its peaceful and harmonious community who have opted out of the planetary war that continues to rage, seemingly with no armistice anytime soon. The score fittingly winds its way through the trials and tribulations of this journey, blending minimal and harmonic rhythms, industrial funk, dreamy synth wave, and transcendental techno into the rich tapestry of music that documents the Return To Telepathic Heights. The album features original artwork by Johnny Bruck, fully licensed, and taken from the legendary German science fiction novel series, Perry Rhodan, which ran weekly from the early 1960s, and was the most successful sci-fi book series ever written. Gatefold sleeve.

LOCAL SUICIDE FEAT. NICKI FEHR Leopard Gum 12"
Local Suicide, aka Munich's Brax Moody and Greek-born Vamparela, has it in spades. With its swerving bass slithering over a slow tempo, "Leopard Gum" is the perfect slow burner. The synths that come crashing across the track's Smagghe & Cross remix add their saturated signature that provide a different kind of hook through its breathless nine-minute run. The same measured tempo is found once more on the more ethereal "Already There", where Local Suicide affirm their adherence to the more captivating signatures of new wave and post disco. Lauer adds a surprising electro pop shimmer to the track.

VA Midnight In Tokyo Vol. 3 2LP
Repressed; Double LP version. Midnight In Tokyo is a compilation series that aims to be the perfect companion to nights in Tokyo, collecting tracks by Japanese artists that sound best at night. Vol. 2 (STUDIOMUL 006CD/LP, 2018) focused more on '80s jazz fusion, but the latest installment, Vol. 3, picks up where Vol. 1 (STUDIOMUL 001CD/LP, 2018) left off, bringing together forgotten soul, disco, and new wave gems. The compilation opens with Japanese rare groove classic "More Sexy," a provocative song by Yoko Hatanaka. "Kimi No Yume," from the album Yume No Yonbai (1984) by Masumi Hara, is one of the best Balearic acid folk songs to come from Japan. "Silhouette Call" is an electric bossanova track in the vein of Antena, from a rare album called Octopussy (1982) by Yuki Nakayamate, a singer-songwriter who worked with Motoharu Sano. "Theme Of High School Student" is a dubby cut featured in the Japanese film Kougen Ni Ressha Ga Hashitta (1984), written by Atsuo Fujimoto (Colored Music), one of the key artists in the recent wave of global interest in Japanese music. "Get To Paradise" is a stone-cold funk jam by Mari Kaneko, who was known as the Janis Joplin of Shimokitazawa. Following that is one of Japan's greatest new wave disco tracks, "Hannya", taken from Tomoko Aran's popular third album Fuyu-Kukan (1983) produced by Masatoshi Nishimura, who was part of Friends Of Earth with Haruomi Hosono. Masako Miyazaki, whose rendition of Seawind's "He Loves You" is a fan favorite, puts her own spin on Earth, Wind & Fire's "Fantasy," singing in her accent-heavy English, giving the song an undeniable character. "Watashi No Koukoku" is a certified disco-boogie classic by Junko Sakurada. The Brazilian-esque jazz fusion, "Sunshine Bright On Me" is by fusion group Kangaroo, who were often billed as "the japanese Shakatak". "Stranger's Night" is a synth-pop number by Maiko Okamoto, which bears a suspicious resemblance to Rah Band's "The Shadow Of Your Love". Electro-pop disco "Singing Lady", off the sole album by The Fad sounds like something Giorgio Moroder could've cooked up. "Magic Eyes" is a disco anthem recorded by Tetsuji Hayashi's disco project, The Eastern Gang. Following that is Japanese soul gem "Crazy Baby," found on a rare 7" entitled Minato No Soul by Rinda Yamamoto also composed and arranged by Tetsuji Hayashi. Closing out this collection of 14 Japanese rare groove goodies is "I'm In Love", a bittersweet mellow dance number by Tomoko Aran.

HYGIENE Private Sector LP
Having released a slew of singles and an LP on various DIY labels in the US and the UK at the turn of this decade, London post-punk stalwarts Hygiene return from hiatus with their sophomore effort, Private Sector. Where their debut LP Public Sector (2011) reflected a nostalgic longing for an unrealized socialist modernist utopia, Private Sector finds them confronting the grim realities of the present, Hygiene rail against the neoliberal madness of utility cartels, tax havens, and privatized railways, seizing the moment as the current period of interregnum sees the old ideological certainties come into question. Proving nostalgia to be an inescapable trap, the band continue to hearken back to the kind of post-punk that existed before anybody knew to affix the "post" prefix. Private Sector has the signature Hygiene sound, mixing brooding melodies with a choppy, aggressive approach, and a restricted pop sensibility. However, this ever-so-slightly-more mature record finds the band taking advantage of the musicianship of their friends, mixing in the odd viola, glockenspiel, piano and keyboard. Recommended for fans of Real Ale, British Rail Class 55 Deltics, Euston station, and Jeremy Corbyn. Edition of 500.

NEGATIVE SPACE Cruelty LP
Not content with pouring their bleak urgency all over the trials and tribulations of modern existence with 2017 LP Gestalt, Negative Space return with a seven-song slab of brutalist post-punk -- and it's another triumph. Seething with fury, it almost (but not quite) masks its venomously-spat lyrical content behind angular basslines that Steve Hanley would've been proud to call his own and guitar chords that teeter and totter between the blunt force of Black Flag and the dissonant crunch of Gang of Four. This is no easy ride; it's music that wraps itself up in peril before clawing its way out and stomping on whatever's left. With song titles like "Theft Utopia" and "Performative", you know what you're getting -- a pointed railing against those who hide behind hypocrisy and illusion, while the monochrome glare of the music makes it clear that none of this is to be fucked with. At times it even sounds like they've been caught up in the textured smoosh of Sonic Youth's Washing Machine (1995), with guitars exploding into senses-crushing fog even as the mechanical clank of the rhythm section continues its relentless, insistent pounding.

PM27 TAG / THE ANTI GROUP "4 X 12" CD PRE-ORDER!

This TAG / THE ANTI GROUP CD Album contains two exclusive original unreleased RMXs by Richard H Kirk, which have been produced and developed by Adi Newton in 2019. Remastered by Jacque Beloeil for Anterior Research / Peripheral Minimal Records.

CD also includes a 16-page Facsimile of the original Booklets included with HA / ZULU / ShT. The CD comes in an A5 digipak and is limited to 500 copies.

"The 3 x 12 / 45 were conceived to represent, “The Symbolism of The Great Work” (Latin: Magnum opus), which is an alchemical term for the process of working with the prima materia to create the philosopher's stone. It has been used to describe personal and spiritual transmutation in the Hermetic tradition, attached to laboratory processes and chemical colour changes, used as a model for the individuation process, and as a device in art and literature. The magnum opus has been carried forward in New Age and neo-Hermetic movements which sometimes attached new symbolism and significance to the processes. The Booklet goes further into the Occult and Esoteric ideas that TAG where researching and implementing into these recordings in 1985/86."
