Thirty years into the conceptual crusade that is the Ultra Heavy Beat, our fearless Kapt'n K and his collection of cohorts have delivered a bold declaration of unremitting purpose. Sequential Access is an Old school EBM collaboration between Marco Defcode (Decoded Feedback) and Claus Larsen (Leæther Strip/Klutæ). Fittingly titled "Sex Addicts Anonymous", the resultant album is 13 tracks of pure golden era electro-industrial. Percussive dance rhythms and arpeggiation are overlaid with catchy lyrics and melodies. "Sex Addicts Anonymous" finds Marco and Claus cranking out a brand of EBM that stomps one foot firmly in the present, one in the halcyon days of the old school European EBM movement of the 80's and 90's

MW055 Richard H. Kirk - Never Lose Your Shadow EP

Minimal Wave is honored to present a 12" EP of tracks from the archives of Sheffield based electronic music legend Richard H. Kirk, entitled "Never Lose Your Shadow". Kirk first came to prominence in the 1970s as a member of the seminal industrial band Cabaret Voltaire. His first release as a solo artist, Disposable Half-Truths, came out in 1980 on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records label and since then he developed a solo career parallel to the band until its dissolution in 1994. On the EP, we compile tracks originally recorded between 1978 and 1987, which have never before been released on vinyl. The title track, 'Never Lose Your Shadow' blurs the lines between harsh industrial, dance floor, and no wave. This is one we've been playing out for a while now and wondering why it hadn't been pressed on vinyl. The other three tracks are more experimental and reference ideas Kirk was exploring in Cabaret Voltaire at the time. When asked specifically about this collection, Kirk explains that "none of the tracks were outtakes for Cabaret Voltaire, they were always solo tracks, although I think 'Never Lose Your Shadow' was vey much a blueprint for the material that Cabaret Voltaire recorded for Virgin / Some Bizarre between 1983-85. The minimal sequencer / drum machine lockdown that I used later for Cabaret Voltaire was pioneered on this track. Lyrically, 'Never Lose Your Shadow' was inspired by the 1971 speed freak road movie 'Vanishing Point', amongst other things." The EP is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies, the first 500 are pressed on solid grey vinyl and the remainder on black. Every copy is accompanied by a postcard of the Western Works Studio. Special thanks to Mute for agreeing to license this group of tracks. Order your copy here, $20. Vinyl orders will begin shipping on September 25th. Digital release also available via iTunes, Boomkat, Bleep, etc.

MW056 Guyer's Connection - Portrait LP

Minimal Wave is proud to present a reissue of the seminal first album from Swiss Wavers, Guyer's Connection. Tibor Csébits and Philippe Alioth formed Guyer''s Connection in Basel, Switzerland when they were only 14 and 15 years old. At the time they were in a new wave rock band called "Kurtzschluss" which they decided to break from in order to make purely electronic music. They began with two synthesizers, a drum machine, a 4-track tape recorder and a multitude of ideas. They channeled their unique and humorous vision into their first album, entitled Portrait which they produced themselves and self-released in 1983. Over the years, the album became a highly sought after minimal synth cult classic. It stands alone as one of the strongest examples of Swiss Minimal Wave, and probably the only one that is in Baseldytsch. The Portrait reissue is presented in a high quality gloss sleeve, with artwork to match their original sleeve design from 1983. The record features newly remastered audio pressed on 180 gram black vinyl, as a hand-numbered edition of 999. Order your copy here, $22. Vinyl orders will begin shipping September on 25th. Digital release also available via iTunes, Boomkat, Amazon, etc.

CITI014 Silent Servant / Broken English Club - Violence & Divinity EP

Cititrax is proud to present a 4 song split EP by Silent Servant and Broken English Club. Although the two are geographically very far apart, Silent Servant based in Los Angeles, US and Broken English Club based in London, UK, the two share a similar outlook and musical approach. Both projects have been on the rise lately, and stem from a strongly rooted techno background. Combining their influences of dance music, techno, EBM, industrial and post-punk, Silent Servant and Broken English Club offer a new breed of EBM infused techno wave on the Violence And Divinity EP. They artfully create music that works both on and off the dance floor, infusing a dark atmospheric mood with addictive, pulsating rhythms. Themes of love, death, modernity and automobile crashes appear throughout this EP from the music itself right through to the cover art and one of a kind vinyl pressing. Limited edition vinyl pressing of 999 copies, first 500 copies are pressed on black inside milky clear vinyl, housed in a matte printed sleeve. Order your copy here, $20. Vinyl orders that include this title will begin shipping on September 30th.

Zola Jesus 'Taiga'

Nika is the sole singer and songwriter behind Zola Jesus' many creative incarnations. Written on Vashon Island, WA and co-produced in Los Angeles, CA by Dean Hurley, Taiga follows the widely celebrated albums, Versions (2013) and Conatus (2011). This is Nika's fourth full-length album release and the first single from the forthcoming 11-track album is 'Dangerous Days'.

In regards to the album title, Nika explains, "Taiga is the Russian name for the boreal forest. For me it feels very alive... very expansive. It represents a feral, untapped world that could happily exist without us. There are taiga forests in Northern Wisconsin where I was raised, and also in Russia where my ancestors are from, so it also feels very native."

Liberated in the present and connected to the past, this album is a transition for Zola Jesus. Masterful layers of composition are bathed in familiar atmospheric vocals, but a new sensibility is deeply present. Taiga is at once challenging and accessible, and is undeniably branded with what Nika terms a "piercing ambition." Such encompassing purpose, she explains, would be impossible without a newfound sense of artistic self. The album is a declaration of that purpose; one faced with jarring clarity in both its content and production. Nika summates, "For me, it feels like my true debut, because it is the first time I have felt so open and liberated."

Pre-order your CD copy now and it will be signed by Zola Jesus!

Nuoità da parte di David E. Williams (che alcuni di voi ricorderanno erp Accept the Gift of Sin con Rozz Williams)

It is my great honor to introduce the new official video for my song "A Patch of Fog in Purgatory," humorously yet meticulously crafted by Ukrain Mom Productions.

Starring characters from some of my early songs (see how many you can find!), it is more than a fitting celebration for the official Bandcamp launch of my back catalog! Check 'em both out!

P.S.-- Although it's animation, certain portions are "mature audiences only".

Here is the video:

Electric Six >
Human Zoo
$12.98 | CD add to cart
Also available: DIGITAL $8.90
Vinyl Version available here: Vinyl Version

PRE-ORDER: Order now, and we will ship this item to you when it is released on October 14, 2014.

The concept of the "human zoo" has existed in art and literature for centuries, thus Electric Six recognizes and accepts it is not breaking new conceptual ground by naming its tenth studio album Human Zoo. It recognizes and accepts that old ground is being broken. Like teeth.

The first known reference to a human zoo is believed to be from the mid-to-middle 12th century, when the famous Flemish monk Wenslaus De Trappe wrote of his base desires to cage human beings and charge money to display them in humiliating fashion in his classic 14 Trappist Monk Tales. From there, the human zoo concept snowballed and could be found everywhere from Restoration literature (Lord Percy Nutton's Northumberland Abbey), to Nazi propaganda (Die Mensch Zooiedieschennel) to 20th Century American counterculture (Tal Rosenberg's 20 Days on Acid - I Am a Pinhole Camera), the last of which where the author famously imprisons his lawyer/traveling companion in a cage and places him at the corner of Haight and Ashbury to stand trial for helping contribute to a bad trip.

Electric Six recognizes the legacy of the human zoo concept and throws its hat into the conceptual milieu with a great deal of respect and humility. We do not seek to define the human zoo, nor do we seek to deconstruct it. We seek to explore it. We seek to expand it. And most of all, we seek to sell it to you.

Electric Six recognizes that when men and women are placed in cages and displayed like animals, a power dynamic is being constructed. The human in the cage has his basic rights discarded, his dignity stripped from him, whereas the human who pays to observe other humans establishes his superiority just by casually standing and watching, choosing to leave whenever he likes. In this same way, Electric Six seeks to put itself on display in such a manner that empowers the listener and debases the band all while making everyone feel like partying.

From the opening track "Karate Lips", Human Zoo takes the listener immediately into a teenage karate tournament for girls as refereed by Def Leppard. The crunchy guitars hit you in the face like a teenage foot and you immediately remember why you purchased or illegally downloaded this latest Electric Six album.

Like many E6 albums, Human Zoo does not have one defining sound, rather it is a sampler's plate of the entire history of rock and roll music. Like Motown...now we are doing Motown. "Alone With Your Body" is the feel good necrophilia anthem of the summer and it sees the band embracing this oft overlooked section of our hometown's musical history.

From there we ramble into the spaghetti-western marching band good times of "Gun Rights", the triumphant Disnification of "I've Seen Rio in Flames", and into the absurd hip hop of "(Who The Hell Just) Call My Phone". Thrown in a few classic rockers in "I Need A Restaurant" and "Worst Movie Ever" and you've got an E6 album, son!

But it's not an E6 album until the closer is better than the rest of the record combined. The gorgeous, haunting pop of "The Afterlife" might be the greatest thing the band has ever done. Ever.

Okay we said some stuff, told you some song titles, and threw you a few bones. Come on now, buy the record! Who cares about all that other stuff? Have a go, see what happens! Give it a shot! Human Zoo is available on Oct. 14 on Metropolis Records. Come see Electric Six play in your town this fall on the Some Girls Do It for Love tour. Visit electricsix.com for tour dates.

Weekend / Over You
(Test Pattern: 7": TPR09: 708527002506)

EXCLUSIVE
Release Date: 10/28/2014

Limited to 150. Includes a download card. Initial copies also include a limited edition custom 45 adapter.

Sacramento, California’s Arts & Leisure is back with a brand new two-song single, a follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed debut album Choose Your Adventure.

The single, Weekend / Over You, combines elements of ’60s pop, ’70s punk and power pop, and ’80s new wave—all of which help to craft the group’s singular brand of buzzy, hook-laden dark dream-pop, or as they like to call it—California Goth Pop.

“Weekend” is a summer drive along the coast with the top down, salt spray in your face and heartbreak waiting around the bend. But the journey’s so brilliant it’s worth the risk.

“Over You” is a straightforward power pop anthem, in a distinct Joan Jett-meets-the Ramones spirit. Recommended if you’re in need of a post-break up song to play on obsessive repeat.

What critics are saying:

The UK-based magazine 247 called Arts & Leisure’s previous recording, the 2013 album Choose Your Adventure, a “faultless debut,” praising the band’s “excellent songwriting, quirky guitar lines and fantastic harmonies … People need to find out about this band, and quickly.”

Likewise, Big Takeover magazine raved about the band’s “bubble-gum catchiness,” as well as the way “sumptuous singer Gerri White’s sighing coo is now paired with equally exquisite co-vocalist Becky Cale.”

(Factory Benelux: 2xCD: FBN11-2: 708527002568)

EXCLUSIVE
Release Date: 11/04/2014

Factory Benelux presents deluxe double vinyl and CD editions of Sextet, the ethereal yet rhythmic second album by Manchester postpunk funk group A Certain Ratio, originally released by Factory Records in January 1982.

Self-produced at Revolution Studio, Sextet saw the original Ratio quintet of Donald Johnson, Jeremy Kerr, Martin Moscrop, Simon Topping and Peter Terrell joined by co-vocalist Martha ‘Tili’ Tilson. Written and recorded following a transformative sojourn in New York in late 1980, the album reflects Latin, samba and even jazz influences (eg Skipscada; Day One), while still retaining Ratio’s signature brittle funk textures, heard in full effect on Lucinda, Gum and trancelike floor filler Knife Slits Water.

“It all came together for us on Sextet really,” confirms bassist (and latterly vocalist) Jez Kerr. “We were all working together - more involved in the recording, and what went down onto tape. It's definitely got something that the other albums haven’t.”

Newly remastered, the bonus tracks on both the CD and vinyl formats include non-album single Waterline as well as dub plate Abracadubra (released as Sir Horatio), and the band’s three song John Peel session from June 1981.

The double CD version also includes a further Peel session from November 1982, featuring two songs never before released on record: Piu Lento, and Who’s To Say. Also included on the CD are both extended 12” mixes of Knife Slits Water, together with an early demo version of percussive marathon Si Firmir O Grido.

Artist : No Unauthorized
Label : Camisole Records
invasion / LP

No Unauthorized was a French band from Melun (south suburb of Paris) active between 1980 and early 90's. The band was omnipresent in the tape wave scene with almost 100 appearances on various labels like Bain Total, Insane Music , EE Tapes or V.I.S.A. Their music can be described as minimal synth-pop with smart silly French lyrics. Add an experimental Diy spirit and you have one of the most original French 80's band. Invasion is an 8 tracks tape album originally released in 1987 on Fraction Studio (home of Philippe Laurent and DZ Lectric) and is probably their most accomplished work. It captures all the personality and freedom of the group who had no taboo to ridicule any situation. Limited edition of 200 standard numbered copies with A4 insert. Splendid starting release for this new Camisole Rec. label ;)

nuit de noce

Artist : Essaie Pas
Label : Teenage Menopause Records
nuit de noce / LP

Essaie Pas (aka Marie Davidson & husband Pierre Guerineau) 1st LP 'Nuit De Noce' released through Teenage Menopause Records is a similar collage of dark synths, sequencers, bilingual spoken word, and minimalist structure, but with an addition of twangy guitar and a greater tendency toward pastiche. "Carcajou" establishes the pace with Esquivellian offbeat block hits and a YMO-worthy synth lead. 3 minutes into the song, the coarse bass line shrinks to a short pulse, and a menacing synth drone begins to wail; Marie's voice begins to flake off into fibers of delay; the bass mutates into a grinding burst. A gloomy void has opened in the midst of the loungey structure that they started out with. In a Belgian interview back in November, Pierre & Marie explained their name as a reference to Charles Bukowski's epitaph, 'Don't Try' describing how while it at 1st glance seems negative, but under scrutiny it reveals an encouraging meaning. "It means 'Do it!' 'Have no fear!'" The anecdote shows a fascination with the coinciding moments of optimism and gloom that manifest themselves inversely during the course of the album. The songs on 'Nuit De Noce' pull from a set of upbeat italo-disco and syrupy film score references to wring out an underlying sense of anxious tension and brooding melancholia. Essaie Pas tap into the sinister undercurrent of Giorgio Moroder's basslines. Even when Moroder's bass lines are smothered in guitar solo cheese and cloying synth timbres, they still retains a sense primal metaphysical dread and an uncanny valley quality to the synthetic timbre. For those of us who are coming around to Essaie Pas post Davidson familiarity, 'Nuit De Noce' is an absorbing counterpoint to her solo material; it's groovier, more disparate, but equally captivated by the paradoxical connection between dark fantasy and life affirmation. Limited to 50 0 copies !
perte d

Artist : Marie Davidson
Label : Weyrd Son Records
perte d'identité / LP

'Perte d'Identité' is the debut LP by composer, singer and poet Marie Davidson, one of the finest artists rising from the electronic dark-synth scene in Montreal. Her voice is a stark half-spoken monotone which will tell you stories from which you can't escape unchanged. With this release, she refines her storytelling with suffocating tales that are both intimate and melancholic. Meanwhile, her miraculously human electronic rhythms are as frantic and hypnotic as an intense stare. In her premier full length album, she invites you to take a look in the peephole, revealing a fascinating cinematic picture. What you will be shown are the parts of yourself which you're scared and ashamed of, but also the ones that reveal a haunting and glamorous sensuality. Not only will she spin you a tale, but her music will immerse your soul in images of sweet anxiety. "This album is about romance and a quest for meaning". 2nd pressing.
alice

Artist : Nine Circles
Label : No Label
alice / LP

No need to present this cult Dutch duo from the 80's (Lidia Fiala & Peter Van Garderen) still active nowadays.. This new album 'Alice' contains 12 songs, which were composed during the past 2 years, but the lyrics partly date back to the 70's & 80's. Some of these songs were already performed on stage, some will premiere on forthcoming concerts and some will never be played live. This is because all Nine Circles lyrics deal with things that happened in Lidia's life and songs like "Alice Don't Jump" are too emotional to be sung on stage. The song "The Shade Killed Her" is about Lidia's experience with some people in the music business who nearly managed to destroy her love for the music, but "This Is The Rose" tells that it turned good account and those people did not succeed. Per-Anders & Lidia are tuned with their feelings, so when Per-Anders sings "Haunted By The Past", he gets the same feelings as Lidia when she wrote the lyrics, because they fit also to his life. This is with many songs; being kindred spirits they are able to make music like it is coming from one soul.. Handnumbered cover with UV matt varnish print. Contains inlay with lyrics and photos, 1 poster, 1 sticker and 2 different postcards.. TIP !!!
austerton

Artist : Martial Canterel
Label : OnderStroom Records
austerton / LP

Much-needed re-issue of this privately released 2007 album. Martial Canterel's Sean McBride is the progenitor of American cold synth sounds of the 21st Century. He began under the moniker Moravagine before he started releasing limited edition cassettes and playing Brooklyn dives as Martial Canterel in 2002. Since then, McBride's bleak intellectual exercises in the dark and danceable have flooded North America and Europe through the frosty fairwaves paved by Pieter Schoolwerth's Wierd Records. With an inimitable minimal style merging bright, urgent melodies ornamented and punctuated by the noises of industry and McBride's sonorous, stern vocals, Martial Canterel's earlier releases (You Today, Refuge Underneath) have garnered both critical acclaim and a rapidly growing rabid fan base. Sean is also one half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander together with Miss Liz Wendel bo. The album 'Austerton' consists of some of his earliest work recorded in 2003. The 10 minimal synth songs on the LP are reminiscent of music by bands like Dark Day, Snowy Red, A Blaze Colour, League Of Nations. Through the collision of a uniquely humanistic means of production via live analogue synthcraft expertly paired with vocals and lyrics that reflect the pitfalls and pleasures of our age, Martial Canterel provides a visceral kick best felt on the dancefloor, amidst a flurry of flesh in motion. Limited edition of 1000 copies with double-sided insert !!

Artist : Frozen Ducks
Label : OnderStroom Records
untitled / LP

Frozen Ducks were the 2 brothers Hans & Lex Grauwen. The short-lived duo had Hans doing vocals, and Lex playing synths and doing the production of the tracks. The 9 electro / new wave songs sound a lot like the Tranquil Eyes 'Walks' album and this release can in many ways be seen as the accompanying release to the 'Walks' album. In fact: the Tranquil Eyes song "Television" started out as a Frozen Ducks track. The line-up of the bands is almost the same, the bass and the overall production is just as deep, rich and poignant; only this time the drum patterns are more apparent and the atmosphere is much darker with lyrics about a troubling childhood and a vague view on what the future will bring. During the mid-80's Hans & Lex recorded well over 50 tracks of early electro / new wave for Frozen Ducks, about 15 could be rescued and remastered. "Beginnings" and "Lost Freedom" were released on the legendary Dutch experimental compilations Contactdisc 4 and Contactdisc 5. Which included bands like X-Ray Pop, Twilight Ritual, Tranquil Eyes, Kapotte Muziek, De Fabriek. All other tracks on this album are previously unreleased and come from the vaults of Lex Grauwen. With much dedication and joy these tracks have been unearthed and compiled into this posthumous album. A true pleasure to listen to and a must for every minimal synth, new wave and lo-fi Italo disco fan. Limited edition of 500 copies with double-sided insert..
dance remotion

Artist : Company Of State
Label : OnderStroom Records
dance remotion / LP

Belgian new wave & Diy minimal synth duo that started out experimenting with a rhythm box and post-punk guitars in the vein of early Cabaret Voltaire. Rudolf Hecke explains the origin of the band: “By the end of the 70's we were both living in small towns near Leuven. I had been playing in bands since 1973 and was still living with my parents in Veltem-Beisem where the garage was my rehearsal-room. One day he showed up, he was looking for a songwriter, he'd be the singer. He rode a bike.” The group debuted in 1983 on their own label with an incredible 7" (Dark/Discipline - Dance Remotion/Here as I Am). Rudolf Hecke provided screeching guitarplay with different forms of feedback and distortion, Paul Taes expressed his mood through his singing and the rhythm box did what it had to do, it rumbled along. It made sense for COS to join the Anything But Records label run by Ludo Camberlin (A Blaze Colour), where they shared the roster with bands like Neon Judgement, Poésie Noire, Aimless Device, Men 2nd.. On stage they always delivered a spectacle to the public. “Well, we very much liked to mess up things. Most of the time there was blood, I broke my nose once and ended up at the hospital when I cut my left arm with a razor blade on stage. We had some medieval weapons we'd like to throw around while the strobo's were lit.” On this retrospective LP release the emphasis lies on the 1st few years of the band including their first 7" and demo recordings from that period. When the experiments were still rough, the spirit high and the results chaotic and surprisingly dynamic. Edition of 500 copies !

lies and logic

Artist : Asmodaeus
Label : Walhalla Records
lies and logic / LP

Walhalla's minimal synth treasure! Legendary and much sought after recordings dating from 1984/1985 of one of the members of the Belgian industrial noise collective OB Minimax. Previously only available on cassette and now remastered on 180gr quality vinyl limited to 500 copies! Simply Wonderful..
vide

Artist : Koban
Label : Weyrd Son Records
vide / 12"

Koban is a storm that has been gathering over the Pacific Northwest since 2011. After an ep and full length recording behind them, the Vancouver-based duo is striking out again with a new 6-song ep on Weyrd Son Records this time, gaining sound and fury in these brooding new tracks. Koban naturally and seamlessly genre bend, their punk roots buried deep under layers of melded synth, goth and post-punk. This creates a unique sound which is simultaneously full and sparse, atmospheric and uneasy. A drum machine creates a baseline over which moody interchanging vocals and blown-out guitar noise quickly and organically oscillates. Their lyrics give a wink and nod to their influences and feature songs sung in French for an icy touch. Koban leave you with a feeling of being utterly new and a sense of déjà vu. Limited to 300 hand-numbered copies on 140gr black splatter vinyl.!
obsession / viper smile

Artist : Luminance
Label : Weyrd Son Records
obsession / viper smile / 7"

After two ep's that have set the already so recognizable multiple dimensions of one-man band project Luminance, this very special release presents a 2 tracks selection that illustrates and resumes perfectly the richness of Luminance's variegated range of colours and textures. While side A's "Obsession" has this super dancy and pulsating but somber vibe, perfectly accompanied by Nathalie Bruno's (ex-Phosphor) voice and lyrics, "Viper Smile" is giving side B a intimate walk in the limbs of what David-Alexandre can do best, where cold/dark/synthwave remarkably collide. Limited to 200 hand-numbered copies on black vinyl..
varla

Artist : Black Narcissus
Label : WeMe Records
varla / 2x12"

Released on Belgium based label WéMè, this new 2xLP from electro moniker Black Narcissus, otherwise known to Rephlex appreciators as Jodey Kendrick. This is a follow up on his promise a year ago laid out in mini album Black Narcissus X of going heavier and darker in on his beats compared to the electrofunk skewed output that came from the Jodey Kendrick named releases on Rephlex. 'Varla' is by no means an easily listening experience in a very good way, it's full of raw metallic tinged machinic power that you love Underground Resistance for. Without compromise. Brut, Faster, Sexy and with Drexciya influences. Will leave every one KO !!!
another portal

Artist : The Valley & The Mountain
Label : WeMe Records
another portal / 12"

A 2nd outing on Belgium's WeMe Records for the mysterious Valley and The Mountain project. Mystery is no barrier to quality though, as these 6 tracks offer variations on a simple theme of technological experimentation. Serenely beautiful techno abounds, particularly on "Bleed" a simple 4 bar riff being fed through simple modulations and permutations throughout the track's duration. "Echoes" is more staid, yet no less affective. "Post-American Music", with its looped vocal samples and syncopated kicks, dallies around the political without sacrificing groove, while "Time" is the most frenetic here, gurgling vocals and noodling solos meeting multi-octave repetitions. As if Marvin Gaye & Tangerine Dream together in an elevator in Detroit !
the second benefit

Artist : Bene Gesserit
Label : EE Tapes
the second benefit / 7"

'BeNeFiT' ep for Belgium's no.1 synth-pop duo BeNe GeSSeRiT, cult! BeNe GeSSeRiT are the husband and wife duo of Alain Neffe & Nadine Bal (Insane Music). Born in 1981 but still active, it's high time to renew their recording equipment! All proceeds will go to the band enabling them to continue their musical adventures. Limited 7" ep with 1 'new' side (3 unpublished tracks) and 1 'old' side (3 rare 80's K7 gems, 1st time on vinyl). Also including 1 original BeNe GeSSeRiT drawing with official InSaNE stamp, each one different+ 1 BG photograph (9 versions). Thanks for supporting ;)
radionome

Artist : Various
Label : Blowpipe
radionome / LP

Valuable re-issue with some classic early synth-pop, minimal electronix taken from VPRO radio sessions in the early 80's (original album was released by VPRO in 1982). 'RadioNome' sounds as amazing today as when it was 1st pressed. With the Madonna of neo-liberalism being laid to rest, the social and political discord created by Thatcherism coursed through Europe in the 80's. Electronic musicians engaged in the global shifts of some 30 years ago. These artists used synthesis to create a binary poetry, employed a circuit-board canvas to paint their discontent and analogue machines to voice their feelings. 'RadioNome' was, and is, a sound of the future, a sound of revolt and a sound of passionate expression. Limited re-issue of 300 copies on the Dutch Blowpipe label.
kassettentäter vol.9

Artist : Various
Label : No Label
kassettentäter vol.9 / LP

'Kassettentäter' (cassette offender) is a compilation of rare and mostly forgotten records from the early 80's. It's a tribute to the German cassette underground scene. Latest in this series of super-obscure synth/primitive NDW/experimental artists, mostly only previously "available" on cassettes. Ultra limited edition of 100 copies, with liner notes.. Grab it while you can !

PHILIP JOHNSON - Youth In Mourning LP
$15.00
Quantity

Download card included. Release date: October 28th, 2014.

PHILIP JOHNSON, a lost figure in the dark waters of early industrial music, self-released over 25 tapes starting in the late '70s. As a part of the "cassette culture" in the UK, he produced ethereal soundscapes, damaged electronics and undanceable drum patterns, along with homemade j-cards. For his first and only LP, 1982's Youth In Mourning, JOHNSON further refined his approach with mesmerizing audio collages and Mark-E-Smith-ian vocals to make one of the most unique documents of the era.

The song "C81," commenting on NME's compilation of the same name, expresses contempt with know-it-all indie culture that was similarly reflected 20 years later in LCD SOUNDSYSTEM's "Losing My Edge." Fans of the degenerate tale in THE VELVET UNDERGROUND's "The Gift" will appreciate JOHNSON's "The Karate Kicking Girl Of New Invention." Youth In Mourning is a personal record, yet fearless. It pulls back the bedroom curtain, revealing (as JOHNSON writes in the liner notes) "the sound of a warm-air heater on a cold afternoon and a cassette being pushed into the deck and switched on."

This first-time reissue comes from the original master tapes. Recommended for fans of CABARET VOLTAIRE, John Bender and THE SHADOW RING.

"We pass the fields of swaying gallows, the warning runes of empty grit..."

After "Riot", the latest official output from 2012, the GOLDEN APES have released their new album "The Langsyne Litanies" on October the 31st at last, for clearing the way for things to come.

Inspired by their acoustic tour earlier that year the band chose 5 personal favourites from their canon to reinterpret them while looking back and rearrange them while taking a step forward, deliver them from the chronological dust and restructure their tonal nucleus. By using mainly acoustic instruments, like classic guitars, percussions, a cello, flutes and even a tuba (sic!) the process bore a soundscape wherein familiar sounds reflected in a new way, sloughed aurally and detached from any tense.

Including 3 brand-new tracks "The Langsyne Litanies" became more than the planned EP, but an album that mirrors the band's versatility and their many facets in an unusual and impressing way.

"The Langsyne Litanies" will be available as an limited edition (restricted to 333 copies) only.

Killed by Deathrock Vol 1 (adesso pure in CD!)

In 2007, Sacred Bones Records founder Caleb Braaten started unearthing rare and little-heard post-punk, deathrock and dark punk tracks for an eventual compilation. Seven years later, riffing on the tradition of the internationally known punk collector series, Killed by Death, those tracks are finally being released as 'Killed by Deathrock Vol 1'. Bands from all over the world are represented on the comp, from the relatively well-known Scots in Twisted Nerve to the 'completely un-Googleable' Move from Italy. Also featured are the French band known simply as Bunker on their first demo tape who later became Bunker Strasse, though still remained largely obscure. Kitchen and the Plastic Spoons formed as a sort of goof band in Sweden in 1980 and only released a couple of 7-inches before disbanding a year later in 1981. The rest of the comp represents a vast spectrum of geography with the US being represented by Your Funeral, Glorious Din, The Naked and the Dead, and Afterimage. Screaming for Emily (UK), Baroque Bordello (France), and Taste of Decay (Germany) round out the collection. What all these bands have in common, apart from their dark, icy atmosphere, is that they're quintessential pieces of the deathrock story whose music hasn't been heard by nearly enough people - until now.

www.superiorviaduct.com/collections/the-flesh-eaters/products/the-flesh-eaters-a-minute-to-pray-a-second-t...

THE FLESH EATERS is the name behind one Chris Desjardins a.k.a. Chris D. Taking his stage name from a 1964 cult film, Chris D. wrote for legendary fanzine Slash in the late '70s and assembled the first of many FLESH EATERS lineups from heavyweights in the burgeoning L.A. punk scene. After releasing a ravenous EP and heart-ripping debut album, THE FLESH EATERS unleashed their era-defining statement, A Minute To Pray A Second To Die.

Originally released in 1981, A Minute To Pray brings together the greatest band in American rock history: Dave Alvin (BLASTERS) on guitar, John Doe (X) on bass, Steve Berlin (LOS LOBOS) on sax, along with Bill Bateman (BLASTERS) and DJ Bonebrake (X) providing the album's trademark percussive backbone. Chris D. leads the group like a man possessed. Through a series of grotesque vignettes, his lyrical prowess and indelible growl stand toe-to-toe with the music's powerful shifts.

From opener "Digging My Grave" (resembling a diesel-charged MAGIC BAND) to the gothic groove of "Divine Horsemen," each song is its own hairy beast. Inspired by African tribal music, '60s garage-rock churn and Funhouse-era STOOGES swing, A Minute To Pray remains (according to author / archivist Byron Coley) "the best rock record ever recorded."

This long out-of-print CD release has been carefully remastered and features liner notes by Coley. Without a doubt, THE FLESH EATERS will hypnotize a new flock of listeners in this millennium.

Track Listing:

Digging My Grave
Pray Til You Sweat
River Of Fever
Satan's Stomp
See You In The Boneyard
So Long
Cyrano De Berger's Back
Divine Horseman

Black Rain
Dark Pool
'Dark Pool' is the new studio album from Black Rain, the project's first in 18 years. Produced in New York City by Stuart Argabright, Black Rain's founder and figurehead and Ike Yard co-founder, 'Dark Pool' is a work of hard-edged sonic fiction rooted in cyberpunk's quintessential neo-noir cityscape / dataspace but projecting into a farther future of biotechnological advancement and alienation. Partly inspired by the writings of Philip K. Dick protege K.W. Jeter (particularly 1996's 'Edge Of Huma'n, which picked up where Ridley Scott's Blade Runner left off), and Paolo Bacigalupi's 2009 novel 'The Windup Girl', a vision of 23rd century Thailand plagued by genetic and economic terrorism, 'Dark Pool's' humid dystopia is also acutely Ballardian in its vision of manmade and natural worlds encroaching upon each other: a vivid psychogeography of half-submerged high-rises and hidden jungle laboratories. For all its textual references, Dark Pool is a visceral and straight-talking affair: its bodyhammer rhythms and brooding sound design require no explanation for their impact to be felt.

Digital Dance
Total Erasement
Prior to forming Digital Dance in Brussels, in the summer of 1978, Jerry WX (voicen guitar) and Stephan Barbery (guitar) were closely involved in the local punk scene. Jerry WX played with Chainsaw, the very first Brussels punk band in 1976, and a year later with X-Pulsion. Stephan Barbery played with Thrills from 1977 to 1978. During this period X-Pulsion, Thrills and a third band called Streets played many gigs together, often swapping instruments and members. (see our recent Punk in Brussels 1977-1979 compilation). Despite their difficult reputation and lack of commercial success, Digital Dance built up a cult following, having even support of John Peel in UK. Between 1979 and 1981, Digital Dance released 3 singles and did several notable live concerts, as opening act for Magazine or Siouxsee and the Banshees. The various members subsequently played in groups as diverse as Fad Gadget, Marine, The Revenge, Kid Montana, Noh Mask, The Names, Snowy Red, The Weathermen.... Digital Dance did their last live show in 1981, there was no definite end of the band but they don't play together between 1982 and 1998

Ciudad Lineal
El Nuevo Hombre
Barcelona's Ciudad Lineal finally deliver the follow up to their fantastic demo from 2013. A full length album of dark minimal wave heavily influenced by El Aviador Dro y Sus Obreros Especializados, The Normal or Cabaret Voltaire. Armed with a bass guitar, drum pad, a keyboard and two synths Ciudad Lineal manage to create a conceptual piece around the idea of progress and industry as opposing forces. El Nuevo Hombre is divided into two parts each one comprising one side of the album. The A side being 'The Splendor' and the B side 'The Fall' joined by a speech symbolizing Mankind's awakening. The album throws shades of Joy Divison, Decima Victima or even The Residents leaving behind absolute hits like the freezing cold opening track 'Horizonte' or 'Industria' which to these ears is the closest anyone has ever came to being part of the Los Iniciados / Fraccion Del Ejercito / Aviador family. While Ciudad Lineal's sound is certainly rooted in the early 80's synth explosion the band remains fresh due to their lyrical approach as well as their DIY ethos. The LP was recorded at La Cova De la Bestia by Daniel Muerte and comes housed in a beautifully put together sleeve and insert designed by the band and printed on heavy 350 Gram reverse board.

Cha Cha Guitri
French Synth Wave (St Etienne 1981)
Emblematic of that French touch which tinged new-wave with a bit of sunshine, their electro, retro-futuristic songs have that slight sweet and sour flavour between casualness and sophistication. The birth of Cha Cha Guitry in 1981 was a landmark for its members, Serge, Dominique, Charly and Marie.Once their hippie phase was over, the guitar, sax and flute were abandoned in the closet while machines took over: an EMS AKS synth, a Roland SH101, a Roland TR808 rhythm-box. The two couples met in the congenial atmosphere of their "home studio" to record their songs. The boys composed and sang, the girls sang and designed minimal costumes, the elegance of which was enhanced by some DIY touches: no need for fabric, paper will perfectly do. As deceivingly offhanded stylists, the Cha Cha crew carefully crafted a music that was both studied and charmingly quirky, making collages of pop raw materials and avant-garde stuff. Scissors in hand, they took what they wanted from the Bauhaus, Moholy Nagy, or Sonia Delaunay's dresses, taping these iconic bits onto the sounds of Kraftwerk and what remained of pop culture (comics, movies, songs of the 30s or easy listening). Cha Cha Guitry, wisely ingenious, modelled tropical landscapes out of cellophane, thus elaborating its own synthetic surrealism.

Guardians of the Ancient Wisdom
Descend the Stairway to Darkness With
The Guardians of The Ancient Wisdom were a post-punk semi-goth band with an electronic element active in East London between 1981-2. They played 2 gigs before splitting up. This 2-LP set captures the band live, at rehearsal and in the studio. This ranges from the Mad Professor produced track 'The Count' (also dubbed up of course) to the searing guitar driven beauty of the track 'Shades' and second gig where they were bottled off after 25 minutes. Restored to audio perfection from original cassette and master tapes this 2-LP set comes on 180 gram vinyl with a CD, and a 20 page A4 fully illustrated full colour booklet telling the tape of the band written by synth player (and Record Collector journalist and Rare Record Price Guide editor) Ian Shirley! Limited to 300 copies.
