In an unprecedented move, British superstars, Duran Duran, have today confirmed that they will perform in London on December 3 at the Odeon Leicester Square, in celebration of the launch of their upcoming album, ‘RED CARPET MASSACRE’, which will be released November 19 on RCA Records.

Marking the first time ever that any band has played at this historic 1600 capacity venue, Duran Duran have spent the past month developing a completely new stage show for the occasion, with magnificent production values created specially for this unique, landmark location.

Performing for well over two hours on December 3, band members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor will take the audience on a musical journey, presenting their new record in its entirety, together with many of the band’s classic hits from the past 29 years and a special electro set that will delight their loyal army of fans. This concert will be the band’s first UK date in support of their exciting new release, which they have worked on over the past year with Justin Timberlake and top producers Timbaland and Nate ‘Danja’ Hills. The December 3 show will follow hot on the heels of a record-breaking two-week run on Broadway which starts next week (November 1) and ends on the November 13.

With tickets priced at £100, £75 and £60 (plus applicable service charges), Duran Duran Fan Community members will be able to purchase both tickets and exclusive VIP packages in advance of the general public from Tuesday October 30 at 1 pm GMT. Duran Duran’s ‘RED CARPET MASSACRE’ marks an all time creative high in the band’s illustrious career. As Nylon Magazine described it in their most recent issue “it’s like a stroke of lightning captured on record… it’s a triumph, a marvel, and a hell of a lot of fun. Duran Duran have got their sexy back.”

Remarking on their upcoming London date, singer Simon LeBon said “We have made an album that we are all really proud of and we wanted to present it in a very unique way. Staging a show at the Odeon in Leicester Square is something that we’ve often talked about over the years – but the time has never seemed right until now. We started work on ‘RED CARPET MASSACRE’ in New York, in September of last year with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. This has been one of the most enjoyable recording experiences of our career – and now we can’t wait to present it to the fans.“

Bassist John Taylor added: “We agreed we wanted to do something very different and special in the UK while we were still making the record and have been planning how we’re going to stage it for the past few months. Nick and I have been particularly engaged in this and are really excited about the production. The Odeon in Leicester Square just feels like the perfect place to launch this album.”

“The Odeon is world-renowned as a premiere venue – and over the years we’ve all seen exciting red carpet events here. We couldn’t have wished for a better place for our first UK show – and with leopard skin-covered seats it’s just perfect for us!” added keyboard player Nick Rhodes. “I don’t believe there is another band out there who has played here – and knowing that our fans travel to see our shows from all over the world we wanted to start out with something really spectacular.”

Rehearsals for this concert and the band’s two week run on Broadway that precedes it started in London at the beginning of October, and as drummer Roger Taylor noted: “We rehearsed for the whole of October because we are adding so much in the way of new material to the set. Usually when we go out we only introduce three or four new songs into the show but this time we’re playing everything off the new record. Personally, I can’t wait to play these songs live.”

Cancellata la data di Londra. Motivo? Per via della sicurezza è stata negata l'autorizzazione per il concerto dalle autorità competenti, in poche parole c'è troppa richiesta e pochi posti.

Come sapete già il concerto di Londra dall'Odeon è stato spostato all'HISTORIC LYCEUM THEATRE (circa 2.000 posti). I biglietti sono stati messi oggi in vendita e sono già SOLD OUT!!!!!!

They were responsible for some classic pop as well as crimes against music and fashion. But 25 years on, Duran Duran's latest live comeback was just frustratingly indulgent and occasionally inept, at least until the hits arrived.

In fairness, their thirtysomething fans seemed unperturbed that it took 90 minutes for the band to perform a proper smash - Rio - and it did get an exultant reaction.

The show was audacious, with three separate sets spread over two and a half hours. But making people who'd paid £100 for tickets listen to the new album, Red Carpet Massacre, in its entirety was cruel and unusual punishment. Despite the new songs' R&B gloss from producer Timbaland, Duran Duran still seemed worryingly marooned in 1983. There was an abundance of guitar solos, and the vaguely saucy footage accompanying Skin Divers had all the artistic merit of Eighties poster chain Athena.

Of the new songs, only Dirty Great Monster showed their original sense of fun. Then they insisted on playing Skin Divers again for the TV cameras, messed it up once and then had Le Bon forget the words. "There goes another star," said bassist John Taylor, accurately predicting my reaction.

At least they still looked like Duran Duran and their Kraftwerk-inspired set of icy electropop was better but, at times, baffling.

The final hour was a barrage of hits, but it felt like a long time coming. And once Le Bon started strutting around awkwardly to Notorious and The Reflex, his 49 years began to show.

"Did you bring your dancing shoes?" he'd asked, and the fans were indeed out of their seats for Planet Earth and the encore of Girls on Film.

But this bloated performance of new songs and nostalgia relied too much on the loyalty of the die-hard Duranites.

vabbè si sapeva che non è l'RCm d falling down che venderà....alla fine l'album è entrato alla 44 in uk e alla 36 in us...singoli come Nite Runner e Skin Divers porteranno il cd ai primi posti...secondo me...la cosa che mi ha dato fastidio in questo articolo è che non c'era assolutamente bisogno di criticare addirittura il concerto!!che rabbia...li mandassero a lavorare questi..

Ragazzi..... ormai dovremmo stupirci solo degli articoli positivi sui Duran...una mia amica mi ha raccontato che una volta ha incontrato uno dei più rinomati "critici musicali"(vi risparmio le mie idee su questa categoria di frustrati)di cui non ricordo il nome e gli ha chiesto:"ma perché parli sempre male dei Duran?" e lui ha risposto:"mica mi posso s***tanare con i colleghi!"..ho già detto tutto....con questo non intendo che i Duran siano perfetti,non lo è nessuno del resto.Però dargli sempre addosso da certi tipi l'illusione di essere potenti.

La musica è emozione se molti di noi sono ancora qua ci sarà un "perché" profondo e radicato che va oltre i favori della critica,le classifiche e gli isterismi delle ragazzine urlanti dell 85 che non so che fine abbiaqno fatto. Ricordo che al Cornetto free musica festival nel 2005 una ragazza accanto a me mi ha detto "io ero una fan dei Duran,ricordo che quando sono venuti a Roma nell87...che painti che urla!!:SAI QUANDO ESCE IL NUOVO CD"nemmeno sapeva che Astronaut era stato pubblicato nel 2004 ma durante il concerto dei Duran si è così dimenata che una trouppe televisiva (credo quella ufficiale dei Duran )l'ha ripresa tutto il tempo.

Tra Verona, Milano, Trieste n ho viste una marea così... "isteriche" nel ricordo di aver amato gli occhi blu di Simon Le Bon.. francamente se queste persone non seguono più i DD mi fanno un piacere.

Hai ragione Domy,la penso proprio come te. Non ho mai sopportato le scene di isterismo(ex quelle che di vedono in Sing Blue Silver)questo è uno dei motivi offerti ai detrattori dei Duran per denigrarli...certo se queste scene si vedevano ai tempi dei Beatles erano un'altra cosa...ma parlando dei Duran....
