It's a Balloon, Not a UFO

A weather balloon that NASA Balloon Research Center launched on Thursday from Fort Sumner, New Mexico caused a stir in the valley when some residents wondered if it was a UFO.

The balloon is measuring high energy x-rays that originate from the Crab Nebulae, which is tied to research of our universe's origin.

The balloon is going to land in Arizona today, somewhere 10 to 20 miles northwest of Wickenburg. The balloon is 418 feet high, 518 feet wide, and weighs about 11,000 pounds. The balloon has mirrors on it.

The NASA Balloon Research Center is based in Palestine, TX.
