    MENTIRA Mentira LP
After two well-received self-released records, Mentira have hooked up with Harbinger Sound for the release of this mini-album which features six brand new tracks recorded over 2019. This Sao Paulo duo -- although they now reside in Barcelona -- produce more infectious tunes than those previous records hinted at. These fragmented minimalist tracks captured with just cheap keyboards, a bass, and the occasional drum topped with some engaging vocals from Laura Lanca will please anyone one with an ear attuned to contemporary post-punk coming from further afield than London.

    SLOWS Enormous Pause Cassette
2018 release. Best known for playing guitar for Britain's legendary post-punk trailblazers Wire since 2010, Matthew Simms assumes his nom de plume Slows to craft slow and serene instrumentals. Recorded throughout winter in his small studio space in the Kent (UK) countryside, Enormous Pause comprises passages of electric organ and modular synth, variously droning and rumbling across two gorgeous, side-length pieces. In addition to Slows and Wire, Simms is also a core member of dream poppers It Hugs Back and improv supergroup UUUU, while increasingly in demand as a producer and session musician, recently working with Chastity Belt and Bill Fay. "This is the first time I've recorded music knowing it was going to released on cassette," says Simms. "I was reminded of how I first started recording music when I was 12 on a four-track; of the fantastic effect it has on capturing overdriven sounds." Improvisation is at the core of Slows' music, Simms attempting to come up with at least one entirely original piece for every live show he plays under the name. Much of the music on Enormous Pause originated while preparing to play opening slots for two of his favorite bands: Chicago's Tortoise and London's Tomaga. The result is two ethereal sides of gossamer keyboard melodies, buoyed by analog warmth as they slowly move through space echo chambers. This is easily some of Simms most impulsive and varied solo to date, flowing freely between cosmic synth ambience and the all manner of tape-distorted emotion without ever ceasing to engage deeply with the listener.

ELECTRIC SEWER AGE Contemplating Nothingness LP
The Electric Sewer Age project was originally started anonymously by the late Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson together with Coil affiliate and seasoned remixer Danny Hyde, who continued the project together with John Deek, who passed away in 2013. Contemplating Nothingness is the third release by Electric Sewer Age and the second one that Hyde finished alone. With his work as Electric Sewer Age, he explores the vast open space between the dark psychedelic aesthetics that he has helped establishing together with John Balance and his longtime collaborate Christopherson with a postmodernist approach that is deeply rooted in studio practice and sampling. On Contemplating Nothingness, disembodied voices mingle with subdued rhythms, muffled harmonies, or menacing string themes. Over just a little bit more than half an hour, Hyde conjures up traditional and contemporary production techniques and genres like plunderphonics, Leyland Kirby's V/VM project or early vaporwave, all while retaining his singular voice. Throbbing industrial gives way to jazz-inflected quasi-rap, autotune balladry and ethno ambient, before closing on eerily alienated synth pop sounds and a stunning exercise in psychedelic minimalism. Contemplating Nothingness is an album as surreal and beautiful as a half-remembered dream, constantly navigating through the liminal zone of the familiar and the great unknown. 180 gram vinyl.

    FLUGEL, ROMAN Garden Party 12"
Roman Flügel's debut on Running Back under his given name (Roman IV doesn't count) is a wonderful confirmation of his outstanding position in the past, present and future of electronic music. Needless to mention all his merits (or monikers for that sake) and excessive in almost any style, Garden Party highlights his competence in the dance hall and sees Flügel in a jovial mood. Presented by someone who knows the roots of it all, you can hear and envision traces of disco, stories of Manchester's Hacienda, memories of the night life in Frankfurt as well as the reflections in and of US-American mirror balls. But simultaneously, the rich content here also shows the blossoms of the seed, if one avoids the danger of retromania. This is serious fun and as uplifting as a garden party should be. Or based loosely on the creator's thoughts: if ABC's blue-eyed soul stems from punk and new wave, Flügel's "Look Of Love" is a direct result of more than 25 years of kick drums.

    C.A.R. Crossing Prior Street LP
Canadian-born, London-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Chloé Raunet, aka C.A.R., releases her third album, Crossing Prior Street, on Ransom Note Records. Full of bruised-but-ultimately-hopeful electronic art pop, the album tells Chloé's story of escaping a broken childhood in Vancouver, and finding her way to the lonely streets of East London, at the tender age of 16. "The one time in my life I lived alone, it was on a street called Prior. I was halfway through my teens and the place had lasting impact. This was a tiny, creaky flat, high in the eaves of an old wooden townhouse. Damp and cold, run down, sparsely furnished. Bare bulbs dangled from the ceiling, eyeing up the midnight visitors who'd come knowing at my fire escape. I'd let them in and lie limp as they crawled all over me. Thin mattress on the floor, welcoming whatever company I could get." An endorsement of the personal journey, Crossing Prior Street is the sound of Raunet reconciling different sides of herself emotionally, artistically, and sonically. The sparse production of minimal elements gives the album a direct punch. Booming drum machines, dissonant cold wave, skewed post punk, and esoteric pop juxtapose but join in strange and interesting ways. Chloé cites this clash as a defining characteristic of the album, which was equally catalyzed by her love of raw machine music and the catharsis of song. Like the sun breaking through clouds, shining onto a grey rainy day, the album glistens. Although proudly pop, there's nothing idealistic, fake, or saccharine here, as Raunet captures realistic

    HANDLE In Threes CD
Incorporating a diverse range of influences, from samba to no wave, Handle, a three-piece from Manchester (now based between Manchester/London/Brussels) made up of Giulio Erasmus and Nirvana Heire, former members of D.U.D.S (the first British band to sign to Castle Face) and Leo Hermitt, a genderqueer multidisciplinary artist renowned for their challenging, thought-provoking work in the city's arts and literary scenes. The group mesh politics with a trans experience of time and a vibrant, avant-garde freedom of approach. Handle make a uniquely minimal sound, buoyed by poetic, urgent vocals. Each instrument (bass, drums, keyboard and voice) is permitted its own space, yet somehow the result is a brilliantly unified yet understated sonic experience that demands then commands your attention. Powered by looping, hypnotic synth lines, quaking flexes of bass, clattering tribal percussion and expeditious, often agitated vocals that cordially sprint, Handle's songs -- all of which clock in around the two-minute mark -- owe as much to performance poetry as they do to the vibrancy of post-punk and new wave. In these times of anxiety and confusion, Handle provide a much-needed dose of musical catharsis, albeit disorientating at times, pre-empting sense from the shards of sound they gather about themselves. "Life's Work" begins with isolated swells of pitch before driving full throttle into an exuberant rhythmic workout. "Sunday Morning" shares this elasticated feel for melody and communication, twisting about itself in rubbery fashion. "Coagulate" is more disembodied from the pulse, but similarly retains a boldness of vision. "Step By Step" showcases what Handle excel at, it's a clangorous leviathan of beat-forward dance punk, peppered with Leo's fluid vocal inertia. It's dizzying yet divinely exuberant. "Punctured Time" evokes the same cascading flow "Punctured time, bicycle wheel, what if I told you that your lips were like venus, lips were like what? Lips were like venus and that my tongue was a trampoline?" sings Leo amid undulating bass, toppling drums and jabs of keyboard ambience. Handle make music occupied by dark shapes that move beneath a roiling surface: jolting, shattering, cracking, smoothed, bounded, punctuated. Handle's debut album In Threes is a collection of frenetic sounds for frenzied forms. In Threes was recorded and mixed by Robin Williams and follows on from the band's previous EP Demonstrations (2018), released through their own imprint Absolute Fiction.

    WIND ATLAS Arche-Fossil LP
Arche-Fossil is Wind Atlas's fourth record, which sees the band pushing the boundaries of their own music as genres such as post-industrial electronics, ambient, noise, and popular Mediterranean music merge, bringing to life a hybrid and intense album. The gestation process of Arche-Fossil began even before the publication of An Edible Body (2018). With that record, the band changed members and ventured into more electronic territories by using drum machines and synths that still fit their ritual post-punk sound. After two years spent working on this new record, these electronic landscapes have taken over their music. Arche-Fossil was almost entirely recorded by themselves at their home studio and finished at Maik Mayer's recording studio with Sergio Pérez. It collects the songs that represent the band's work over the last two years and that best reflect the issues that weave the whole record regarding the relationship between human beings and reality. "Hunger" opens the record amidst a thunder of abstract sounds and a viscous bass loop. By using samples from M.E.S.H.'s "Optimate", which forms the noisy basis of the song, "Hunger" approaches more experimental electronic terrains. "Where Nothing Happens" explores empty spaces and everything that happens within them when something -- a step, a voice, an object -- interrupts their eternal being, thus generating new meanings between these spaces and that which suddenly inhabits them. In "Dos Ojos", the band continues navigating electronic landscapes, this time through Spanish traditional and oral literature. "Days of Sadness", a free adaptation of Galician poet José Ángel Valente's poem "Latitud", pays homage to the language of the unsaid. "That Mouth" emerges as a dramatic effect when the record has managed to hypnotize. Trance and an industrial sound meet amidst MS20 roars and a beat going over 140bpm. Metallic blows and the sound of chains burst in, creating rhythmic patterns over a bass drum that pushes forward. The eeriest and most beautiful moments appear on the record's B-side. Such moments come to life in tracks like "Oceanic Sexuality" or the closer "Do You Have a House?", along with the experimental "Nothing", in which, by only utilizing noise, Wind Atlas create a sonic collage poem that draws from power-electronics. In Arche-Fossil, Wind Atlas continue exploring some of the paths they began mapping with their previous record. This time, however, they manage to approach the heterogeneous in a much more certain and lucid manner, without ever stopping wondering about their own voice.

MUSCI/GIOVANNI VENOSTA/MASSIMO MARIANI, ROBERTO Losing The Orthodox Path LP
Soave present a reissue of Roberto Musci, Giovanni Venosta, and Massimo Mariani's Losing The Orthodox Path, originally released in 1997. Color vinyl; edition of 300."How does one describe such a supremely crafted tapestry of sound and composition when there is such a rich canvas of details to appreciate it? As a homage to ancient music, Musci, Venosta and Mariani blend a powerful undercurrent of otherwordly intrigue and mysticism throughout their structures, resulting in an emotionally engaging experience unlike any other CD recording I've encountered. Most of the real-time playing is placed alongside and distinctly from the computer world, creating both a stimulating, dynamic and crossover references. There is much originality to reward both close and repeat listens. This isn't jazz, nor improvised; in their words, Losing The Orthodox Path is an homage to ancient music, but through an electro-acoustic approach. Our jazz and/or rock souls do the rest." --Michael KingPersonnel: Roberto Musci - sampler, prepared electric guitar, tapes, CD player, treatments, synthesizer, rain-stick; Giovanni Venosta - prepared piano, organ, spinet, voice, ocarina, mouth, percussion, Jew's harp, sampler, synthesizer, tubes, digital percussion, pandaa (zither from Burkina Faso); Massimo Mariani - digital treatments & FX, voix, electronics, electric guitar, detuned acoustic guitar, harmonica, mouth, tapes, digital glockenspiel, mandolin, double bass, sampler, valiha (zither from Madagascar); Sandro Cerino - baritone, soprano and alto saxophones, contrabass clarinet; Moni Ovadia - Greek chant; Silvia Mandolini - violin; Roberto Zanisi - darbukas; Ciaccio De Rossi - violin; Cesare Picco - fake muted trumpet sound produced using mouth; Liliana Bancolini - voice; Laura Pone - voice; Amelie Gerson - voice and flute; Didier Aschour - voice.

ADULT. make a triumphant return after their 2018 album This Behavior, dubbed “…one of the best records of their career…” by Ryan Lathan of Pop Matters. This chilling continuation takes the form of Perception is/as/of Deception, an anxiety fueled cyclone of pandemonium that only ADULT. would know how to harness. While This Behavior was recorded in the isolated snow-covered woods of northern Michigan, Perception is/as/of Deception was given life in a temporary space the duo created by painting their windowless basement entirely black, with the sole intention to deprive their senses, question their perceptions, and witness the resulting ramifications.

With over 23 years and a sprawling discography left in their wake, Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus have spent their entire career as ADULT. obscuring any defined genre or style. With a history as uncanny as ADULT., the pieces that make up Perception is/as/of Deception might be perceived as their most punk-infused and introspective work to date. The elements of frustration and apprehension that have consistently woven throughout their material are at full mast, although augmented by a strident and more “head-on” approach.

With the rampant sense of emptiness on the minds of many these days, there continues to be few attempts at scoring these common, unfortunate human qualities with pure sincerity. Thankfully, ADULT. has a long-standing reputation for creating the soundtrack for our insecurities, and Perception is/as/of Deception further solidifies their apprehensive position.

The extended version is now available on Bandcamp as a budget-priced CD perfect for fans and collectors and will hit streaming services later this month.

    MASSICOT Kratt LP
Finally, Massicot's second album is here! As ever the groove is the key to Massicot's sound. Simple, seductive, and human. The band choreograph their way around the spaces between traditional spiritual story telling mysticism of Northern European pagan folklore and Latin and Middle-Eastern inspired polyrythms topped off with a little post-punk. As ever the arrangements are full and juicy whilst formed from the simplest elements. The bouncing percussive tapestries are coupled with thick pulsating basslines which form the meandering but tightly-wound rolling beats. Over which goes the accenting citric guitar hooks and the soothing Latvian chant-like choral vocal melodies. Massicot create a carnival dance that locks in the mind whilst luring the body. In true collaborative spirt this record is released in conjunction with our sister-label Spurge Recordings and also the good folks at Bongo Joe (Geneva) and Red Wig (Hamburg). No borders, ever.

    SAINT ALTO Coming/Feel 7"
Saint Alto, Birmingham's own folk troubadour lost boys, are a four-piece alternative indie folk band. Only a few shows in, Saint Alto have gathered attention for "hauntingly beautiful" songs paired with the drive of indie folk found in artists such a Ben Howard and Bon Iver. If Vangelis had enlisted James Blake as part of the soundtrack to a new Sofia Coppola film, then it might sound like this. Guitar, vocals, harmonies, drums, and claps are offset with synths, atmospheric swells, and bass that rattles the rib cage. Lyrically addressing human flaws, love, depression, mind games, and the odd loneliness of the modern world, the music is shot through with hope; soaring synths, group harmonies, and an impassioned, fried lead vocal. Songs like "Manifesto for Suburbia" have all the drive, hope and resistance of early Arcade Fire and are offset against songs like "Tell Me Something", a broken electronic folk love song with a "heartbreakingly pretty, dark and beautiful vocal". A&R Factory went as far as to say the sound "may just prove to be the future of folk". These cropped-trousered depressives are made up of Phil Barber, Alex Dodwell, Dave Hammersley, and Tom Ridsdill and, presumably because of something terrible they did in a past life, currently reside in the Midlands, UK.

We have just released the new single “Martyr” by Shearer which is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD at Bandcamp:

    shearer.bandcamp.com/track/martyr

It’s been many years ago since the Alternative Rock Band Shearer from Berlin released new music. The current beginning of the end of the world was reason enough for them to stop procrastinating and once again focus on doing what they do best: writing songs about the human society.

With their new song "Martyr" Shearer show how impressively competent, effective, and cruel Homo Sapiens can be when he wants to gain personal advantages. Fortunately, there are also exceptional examples, such as Chelsea Manning, who have understood that humans are perfectly capable of cooperation, selflessness, and modesty.

Shearer hope the human race has the strength to delay the inevitable end long enough for them to release their new songs about the apocalypse - it would be a shame if nobody was around to hear them anymore.
We want to remind you that you can still get almost all our digital releases at Bandcamp for free. Furthermore, the 20% discount code aenaos20 is still valid for all CD and vinyl releases at our Bandcamp page:

    RICHAID, RICARDO Travesseiro Feliz CD
On his debut album Travesseiro Feliz (Happy Pillow), Rio de Janeiro based artist Ricardo Richaid melds his tropical heritage with his love for psychedelic music, jazz, and rock. He also takes inspiration from the many Brazilian greats -- Caetano Veloso, Arthur Verocai, Ivan Lins, Joyce, Hermeto Pascoal, Marcos Valle, and Azymuth (to name a few) -- who he has worked with as an engineer, assistant, and producer, in Rio's former RCA studio, Cia dos Tecnicos. Heavily influenced by Brazil's fabled Tropicalia movement, Richaid is also the grandson of Brazilian actor, singer, and Disney star Aurora Miranda (Carmen Miranda's younger sister). Describing his sound as "Industrial Tropicalism", Richaid's music is undoubtedly a product of his environment: warm, hazy and beautiful, but reflective of the current mood of his homeland, lamenting the political, economic, and ecological crisis. The unconventional time signatures and sunny jazz-folk meets post-punk aesthetic are adorned by Richaid's studio smarts. Travisseiro Feliz features notable names from across Rio's music spectrum, including percussion sensation Marcos Suzano (Gilberto Gil), experimental pop artist Ana Frango Eletrico, and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jose Ibarra (Milton Nascimento's touring group). On interlude track "Formigas" you also hear a few verses of Ricardo singing with his seven-year-old daughter, Nina. Carrying forward the Tropicália torch, the opener "Maracas Enterprise/Frio da manhã" is a two-part journey through Richaid's sonic approach, weaving together interlocking horns, chorus drenched guitar, and fuzzed-up synth stabs. A perfect example of Richaid's industrial tropicalism, "Largado Nu" mixes soft, acoustic guitar, and flutes with harder-edged synths and electric guitars, while "O Velho Cai" is beautiful jazz-infused folk, with fretless bass and saxophone singing around the vocal harmonies of Richaid and Liza Machado. Living with his grandmother Aurora Miranda until the age of seventeen (featured in Walt Disney's Three Caballeros film, and happens to be the first human being to kiss Donald Duck), Ricardo would listen to his father playing chromatic scales and bossa nova melodies on the saxophone; his mother's Brazilian classical piano; or his punk rock brother slamming the drums. This eclectic musical upbringing led a teenage Ricardo to learning his trade as the bassist in a short-lived hard rock band, which disbanded when Ricardo began to dig deeper. Alongside engineering some of his musical heroes in Brazil, Richaid has played in bands like Mara Rúbia and nitú, from Rio's underground experimental psych and jazz scenes.

    - DOUBLE ECHO -

Double Echo are a band who’ve been paying their dues quietly. The cross-continental project pricked up our ears way back in 2012 with a slice of dream-pop inspired darkwave, and have been slowly adding other shades and styles to their delivery ever since. Releases like La Danza and Ancient Youth brought classic post-punk and the most trad of goth rock into the mix, but their new LP Burning In Blue manages to combine all these elements with delicate execution, while also delivering their strongest material to date.

The band’s influences remain clearly tangible (here it’s mostly The Cure and Clan Of Xymox, which we’re catching, along with some Japan on the closing title track), but what’s most apparent at first blush is how relaxed and confident the group feel. The sparse and pensive “Felix & Tantrum” gives off ‘Projekt Graduating Class of ’99’ feels, while follow-up “Automatic Doors” has the steady minimalism of a Seventeen Seconds deep cut crossed with daydreamy shoegaze airs. Putting such a reserved pair of tracks back to back on the A-side is a gambit that could have sent Burning In Blue spiraling into self-indulgence, but they each have such distinct forms that one is instead impressed with Double Echo’s range and poise. BARBARA

    Previewed on THRESHOLD MAGAZINE

Passionate about futuristic sounds and stylistic trends of the 80's, the O89 are positioning themselves, in great strides, as one of the interesting projects to emerge in the guts of contemporary electro post-punk. Proof of this is the new monochrome video that arrives this Friday (February 28th) on public stage. "BARBARA" is presented with great focus on the form of a female body without great control in its dance movements. In the middle there are some footage of a dog, a bunch of roses catching fire and a whole uncontrollable will to move the body to which they will not remain indifferent.

    [Electro-Rock - New Wave - Post-Punk. IT]
Available on Digital - CD DIGIPACK & VINYL/LP

    Co-production Shyrec

"Talk To Her are an electro-wave-rock band from Italy with a dark, incisive and powerful sound attitude, playing together since late 2015. After a year dedicated to writing songs, they started playing in the most famous clubs and summer festivals in northern and center of Italy. In 2018 they published HOME under the label Shyrec with excellent feedback from the public, magazines and webzines, in Italy and in Europe. HOME is an EP of 4 tracks, anticipated by the video of the single "Zodiac". The HOME experience culminates in 2019 with the participation at Monitor Festival (Minimal Wave & Post Punk Rendez Vous) in Leiria, Portugal. Talk To Her are currently working on Love Will Come Again, their first full length album, due for release in February 2020.

Love Will Come Again is Talk To Her’s debut album, their second production after the EP HOME (2018). It’s an album about love as an overwhelming power, a mystical experience of life that might be even the hardest: ten tracks, a decalogue describing it as the supreme law which controls and regulates everything.

It reminds us firstly of the fragility of innocence (Innocence), telling us how suspicion in a relationship can be hard to handle (Truth), as well as with the feeling of pain and grief (Ibisco).
Then it investigates how it feels to get lost still waiting in deathly silence (Hollow) or trying to fill the void of those who are missing (The Caller).
In the end this journey is sealed with a confession (Confessions), a dialogue with our inner ghost, when losing yourself is the way to find your mind again.

LWCA is the investigation of love as a mass phenomenon transformed in a routine of meaningless images by a poetical practice.
LWCA is the dramatic story of the eternal fight between a fragile human being and a society that doesn’t live love because love dominates it.
    LWCA is a suffered warning.
    LWCA is a loud shout.
    LWCA is a violent rebellion.
Love has always had its absolute, strict, seducing rules.
Its dictatorship has been coming back since ever.
    It will come back forever."

"Four years after the release of the debut album, the French Tisiphone are back, this time, for an absolutely changeable adrenaline injection that will follow the short-duration format. The new EP, entitled KOMA FORTE, hits the shelves and consists of a total of six themes in an approximate duration of half an hour. From the new EP - which received additional details this week - the track "Atomic Tissue" had previously been released, which can be heard below with audiovisual work.

KOMA FORTE follows the trio's first career LP, TISIPHONE and presents a very eclectic sound without being attached to a single conception. From entertainment theater to widely sentimental sounds, the new EP by Tisiphone promises to make a stir in 2020. In addition to "Atomic Tissue", the French have presented in live performances the theme "Heureux Je Suis" which will also integrate the alignment of the new work."

    TWO MOONS - "OVER" [ICR039]
    [New Wave - Post-Punk. IT]
    Listen & Buy the Album
    DIGITAL & CD DIGIPACK

Two moons is a musical project founded in 2009 from an idea of Emilio Mucciga, Joseph Rips Asanda, Iacopo Palax and Angelo Argento active musicians for very long years with the joint intentions and aim to set up a very ambitious and important musical project.

Two artistic souls in one band: one dark, the other introspective, linked to typical sound of the 1980's darkwave (Joy Division, Bauhaus ecc.) and the magnetic, shamanic and solar of modern electronic sound.

The Two Moons, offer acid and visionary atmospheres, representations of fragile post-industrial poetry, an imperious psychedelic-pop without any heavy individualism.

Two Moons' musical production is a journey not told but illustrated, does not describe but represents an experimental soul that reveals a fascinating uneasiness.

We're return, after almost three years, with an album which drives us back to the origins, to that EP ("The first moon") from where everything had started. Italian in its provenance but with an original British twist, "The first Moon" earned us the reputation of champions of a "new New Wave".
Since looking at the cover we chose, a painting by Lucio Fontana (courtesy of the Lucio Fontana Foundation), "Over" appears as a dreamy, wishful album, inspired by the hope of a sense of "beyond" nowadays' decadence.

The lyrics conjure up a direct connection to reality, with messages that can be pretty straightforward as well as open to different interpretations (a distinguishing feature of Two Moons).
The last effort by Two Moons is a sonic trip where the rhythm is marked by electronic ballads with a definite new wave-y and shoegaze attitude.

    SSLEEPING DESIRESS Exile House LP
Second full-length by Bay Area musician Gabriel Ramos; Inventive darkwave with a melancholic touch. Five years after their self-titled debut in 2015, Ssleeping Desiress (OS 026LP) returns with an outstanding second album Exile House. Tapping into melancholic darkwave via 1980s British post-punk guitar worship, delicious analog synths and pulsating drums, the album unfolds like a soundtrack of city life with isolation, identity, and reconciling with one's past as central themes. Over the course of eight tracks Sleeping Desiress showcase their ability to craft "dark pop songs" that sometimes twist and turn but ultimately weave their way into your head, determined to stay there. Ramos's singular voice makes these songs shine even more, switching easily between slow introspective daydreams and upbeat anthems. Think: Glorious Din, Le Travo, and... The Cure. All songs written and recorded August 2017-January 2019 by Gabriel Ramos. Mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden Studios. Design by Atelier Brenda. Paper Collage by Gabriel Ramos.

VELVET KILLS - "Bodhi Labyrinth" [ICR027]
    [Synth Punk - Darkwave - Post-Punk. PT/USA]
    Listen & Buy the Album
    DIGITAL & VINYL EP
Co-prod Unknown Pleasures Records & Manic Depression Records

The duo opens the doors of “Bodhi Labyrinth” premiering their music video “In The Gold Mine” directed and produced by Art Mistake and Antonio Colombini, followed by music video “Bitch Face” produced by Art Mistake, directed by Alan Deprez and image by Nicolaos Zafiriou and David Patel.

Awakening the labyrinth of our minds to be freed from hate, greed and ego this album brings us to the reality of our actual society. The messages come coded in sarcasm, euphemism, hyperbole and irony where the two dig into the files of a lonely civilisation and question the purpose of life vs government structures, where we "Cash and Move" and where love is forgotten.
Inside the “Noise” of the apocalyptic war a “Hangover Calling” to the universe to rise humans to a higher state of positive vibration.
    “The Key” is Love.

    "[...]

Today Artoffact Records announces the signing of Russian post-punk trio Ploho. The band is also premiering an excellent new video for the song Горький опыт exclusively on Post-Punk.

The Siberian post-punk band Ploho has emerged as a household name in their native Russia, and has slowly built up a dedicated fanbase in Europe and abroad. The band was formed by singer and guitarist Victor Uzhakov in 2013, who tapped Andrei Smorgonsky on bass and Igor Starshinov on synths. The threesome are one of the most prominent purveyors of the newly dubbed “new wave of Russian music,” creating a dark sound of rock, post-punk, and new wave that is captivating.

To date, Ploho has recorded four albums, and several EPs, as well as more than 10 singles, which they supported by touring more than 40 cities in Europe several times. They appeared at prominent festivals including Боль in Russia, Kalabalik in Sweden, and Platforma in Lithuania. Their latest album Пыль (Pyl) was released in 2019 and a vinyl edition quickly sold out. The record caught the attention of country-mates and recent Sacred Bones signees Molchat Doma, who offered to co-record a new song with Ploho.

Ploho’s music combines early post-punk, new wave and Russian rock, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic and sounds of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band’s cold and depressing sound evokes the hopeful yet fearful era of the Soviet Union, just before its collapse, and is eerily reflective of our own strange time as well. In early 2020, Ploho signed a multi-album deal with Toronto-based Artoffact Records, who will release the band’s new album later this year.

It was not only Artoffact and Molchat Doma who noticed the band’s wonderful sound: Apple Music recently added them to the Breaking Russian Rock playlist, and Cult British fashion brand Fred Perry loves Ploho and recently offered to interview them.

JAEGER/JIM O'ROURKE, KASSEL In Cobalt Aura Sleeps LP
Second outing from Kassel Jaeger and Jim O'Rourke following the release of Wakes on Cerulean on Editions Mego in 2017 (EMEGO 223LP). Covering a vast terrain with delicacy and poise this new release unveils a spectral showcase for all manner of deep abstraction. The first side positions itself somewhere between stoned komische synth and more nuanced electroacoustic tactics, all weighted by a melancholic undertow. The second side builds on the tension of the former as an undulating drone teases all variety of matter to rise and fall amongst the foreign space it inhabits. The effect creates an enormous sense of deep space before subsiding into a smaller more anxious flickering world. All manner of machines fold into play; digital machines, industrial and analog machines. The seemingly random yet ordered nature of events is reminiscent of the behavior of the natural world providing this machine driven release a convincing organic feel. Whether invoking mirrors, distant galaxies, or a pond of frogs, it is a delightful challenge to focus and locate what is nature and what is nurture. To play this loud is to immerse oneself in a fascinating journey which carries the listener through an array of dizzying emotional states.

KO SHIN MOON Leila Nova LP
Ko Shin Moon's third LP puts the use of samples on a background layer and asserts his place as an instrumentalist. Leïla Nova presents itself as a nocturnal digression where analogical synthesizer, rhythm box, vocal tinkering, and colorful instrumentation are mixed together. Psychedelia, electronic variations, dance music, synth folk, and filmed approach, blend with traditional Greek, Afghan, Lebanese-Syrian, Turkish, and Indian revisited repertoires. The artwork is designed by Lebanese artist Raphaelle Macaron. Three pantone colors sleeve; includes download card.
