una bella intervista al mio adorato paul bettany [SM=g27836] [SM=g27836] che vedremo presto nel codice da vinci e in firewall, a fianco di harrison ford.. [SM=g27811] [SM=g27811]
è inglese..

In "Firewall," Paul Bettany plays a ruthless creep who kidnaps a man's wife and children to make some fast cash. Turns out the guy is just a warm-up for Bettany's murderous henchman in one of the year's most anticipated movies, Ron Howard's adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code."
"I would call the man I play in 'Firewall' a businessman, a mercenary," Bettany explains. "Whereas, Silas, in 'Da Vinci Code' is psychotic, an incredibly damaged individual whose anger and fury at the world are harnessed to do some rather dastardly murders."

Bettany signed on to the movie without having read Dan Brown's best seller. He had worked with Howard before on "A Beautiful Mind," and found the screenplay to be a "really ripping yarn." It was only later that he learned that not everyone appreciated a book about a clandestine, Vatican-sanctioned secret society that will do anything to keep the true story of Jesus from coming to light.

"I'm sort of surprised people are as offended as they are," says Bettany, who describes himself as a "lapsed Catholic." "Mind you, I haven't met anyone offended. But I've heard the rumors. I think it's a sort of entertainment and a good one, and that's all it should be. To judge it as a philosophical work seems the wrong approach."

But, then, Bettany's description of the thuglike Silas isn't apt to help mollify "Da Vinci" doubters.

"He is absolutely convinced he is doing God's work," Bettany says. "He knows murder is a sin, but he does what he has to in order to protect the holy Roman Church. He is certain he'll be in paradise, sitting at the right hand of God.

"But before we all get too befuddled by it, it's not an autobiographical story," Bettany adds. "It's a thriller. That's how I saw it, at least. Any connection to the living is purely coincidental, right?"
