Jets: Pitch made for Bailey

Count the Jets among the group of teams making a bid for the services of Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey. Even as Denver and Washington appear to be moving closer to a deal that would swap Bailey for disgruntled running back Clinton Portis, Len Pasquarelli is reporting that New York has offered defensive end Shaun Ellis, running back LaMont Jordan, and tight end Anthony Becht in exchange for Bailey. Though Pasquarelli indicates that the offer is not too late, he does suggest that the Redskins are not enamored with the offer.
The package of Jets veterans does address more needs than Portis does alone. The Skins desperately need to address their pass rush, and Ellis recorded 12.5 sacks last season. However, Jordan is unproven as a featured back—and is clearly not the game-breaker that Portis is—and Becht does not fit Joe Gibbs' system very well. Additionally, all three of the players in the package will be free agents after next season, meaning there is significant legwork to be done if the Skins were to agree to extensions with all of them. We're with Len on this one—the deal doesn't have much of a shot. Besides, the Skins have enough former Jets on their roster already.

Johnson - Galloway ???
Cowboys: Team talking to Bucs about a Galloway-for-Johnson deal

Rather than release him prior to April 1, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would love to get something in return for wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson. Rather than release a player who cost them two first-round draft picks, the Cowboys would love to get something in return for wide receiver Joey Galloway. In a fateful turn of events, the two franchises have crossed paths and are now talking about swapping their overpaid receivers. Trades can't be officially completed until March 3, but deals can be agreed to before that time. Bucs' general manager Bruce Allen confirmed with the St. Petersburg Times that Johnson's agent has been cleared to talk to the Cowboys about a trade. "What I will say is [Galloway] is on our team and under contract," Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Do we have a love connection? We're not surprised that the Cowboys are talking about getting Keyshawn, as Bill Parcells and he expressed their deep admiration for each other during the regular season. Galloway and Parcells didn't have that same spark, and the Cowboys could use a big, tough receiver to go over the middle.

Buccaneers: Gruden talks with Galloway
Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden spoke with Cowboys' wide receiver Joey Galloway on Wednesday to sell him on Tampa Bay and how the team would like to use him were a trade to be completed. It was step one in getting the proposed Keyshawn Johnson-for-Galloway deal done. The next step is for both players to agree to restructure and reduce their contracts down from the $6 million a year range to something more salary cap friendly. The St. Petersburg Times reports that Bucs general manager Bruce Allen will beging talking contract with Galloway's agent Leigh Steinberg today.
This deal would make sense for both teams beyond just getting Key out of Tampa and reunited with coach Parcells. Dallas has speed, but needs more of a possession receiver (Johnson) while the opposite is true of the Bucs. Galloway would make a nice downfield complement to Keenan McCardell.
