HE WALKS THE WALK...
Does anyone walk more elegantly than Joseph Ratzinger?
Paparaxvi's archive photos show him in typical stride - and
I for one get instant tachycardia watching him walk. (That's one of the reasons why I love the Masses at the Vatican, in which he does a lot of walking, as he did this morning!)

PHOTO CALENDARS OF PAPA

I agree with NanMN. I want one of Paparatzifan's calendars too. All the photos I've seen here (very few available) are not Papa's best shots. I think the photos taken at the audiences and elsewhere have been far superior. Those just posted from the calendar were great. So how do we get one? (Great for decorating the cell block too.) Wouldn't it be neat to get one for joining this forum? Just kidding, Ratzigirl.

B16 CALENDARS
Some time around October, e-Bay started advertising a number of different B16 calendars for 2006, among them the two pictured below. The small calendar is among those in Paparatzifan's montage of items she bought in Rome last November. So if you don't know anyone in Rome who can buy the calendars for you, there's always E-bay.

But the big pictures must come from the calendar you see here in Paparaxvi's montage of her mementoes, because the same calendar appears in Paparatzifan's collection:

So look for it on e-Bay.

THOSE BABY BLUES
Unless I am color-blind, Benedict's baby blues were strikingly on display in the picture used by L'Osservatore Romano on its front page yesterday on the feast of the Immaculate Conception :

One of the Italian girls noted months ago that the Pope has what she referred to as "cat's eyes" - they change color according to lighting and circumstances, so his eyes have photographed grey, green, hazel, blue with a brown center, or an intense azure blue such as he was born with. [At that time, Ratzigirl ran a series of pictures showing him with different eye "colors".]

PAPA AND BABIES

I love all those photos of Papa with kids, especially babies. The photo above from Les Combes also shows Papa with a full head of hair, something we haven't seen in too long a time. He seems to really enjoy kissing babies and hugging children, something most academics do NOT usually like at all. But then he is very different from most academics and seems very child-like himself. My favorite baby picture of him is kissing a baby that looks just two or three weeks old and is being passed through the security people to him. The security guys are laughing because the baby is so tiny.

THAT HEADGEAR THING!
Is it a growing trend at the audiences now to offer Papa alternative headgear? Here's another one from Euge in the main forum:

SIGNS OF THE TIMES
From the Vatican's Photo Gallery, via Ratzigirl:

I like this "jazzy" variation on "Tutti pazzi per Papa Ratzi"
Everyone's crazy for Papa Ratzi) which first surfaced at the WYD in Cologne among the Italian delegations.

This one we have seen before, in which some kids tell it like it is - "Benedict, you are beautiful!" But then, perhaps a prudent priest told them to add the line "We love you...like a brother!" - though I do not think that was necessary; they're only kids!

Ratzigirl thank you again so much... you are spoiling us with all the wonderful photos and your attention!

About the photo of Papa kissing the baby... I think "lucky baby!" There was a picture just a few days ago, I think the caption was 2 angels meet... it looks like the little girl is placing her fingers to her lips to blow a kiss to Papa... [SM=x40800]

ELEGANT IN ERMINE AND EMERALDS

Papa "dressed up" for Our Lady yesterday, didn't he? Emeralds on the pectoral cross and ermine trimming on his capelet! And the stole is magnificent - it has his papal coat of arms!
The only thing this picture lacks is the huge basket of pink Rosa Mistica roses which he offered to the Immacolata. (I am glad someone at the Vatican had the sense to order the flowers in a basket, not arranged into a wreath or some tapestry-like pattern like the other floral offerings.)

Ratzi in 1977

Ratzi with Karl Rahner (left) and someone identified only as M. Biallas, February 1977 - One of the pictures brought back by Paparatzifan from her "archive" in Buenos Aires. Both companions appear to have full ashtrays in front of them (poor Ratzi, flanked by two chain-smokers! Ratzi's beer glass is empty but he seems to have a less-than-half-full glass of lemonade beside it.

Gorgeous Ratzi - welcomed in Freising as new archbishop, 1977.

@Teresa
This is a very rare photo where Papa is wearing a "normal" suit. He looks gorgious!

The glasses:
Could it not be that his is the empty glass and the half full one belongs to the gentleman at his right? And it's probably beer (Pils) in there? Because nobody would offer lemonade in a beer glass.....I hope. [SM=g27822]

I've been messing about again!! Here's a logo I made for you, using one of those STUNC photos posted on the Good Morning thread. Hope you'll enjoy using it.
If any of the Italian members would like me to make something similar with Italian wording, please post the words here.I'd love to work with Italian words, as they are so much more.....um....well, um! than English words!

That 1977 photo
Just blown away by all the new photos on this thread!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for comments on my logo, Sihaya, benefan and everyone - I just enjoy doing that and I learned it at my Paint Shop Pro course - not difficult.
I was totally SMUACKED away to see that colour photo from 1977. It's in "Milestones" in black and white. The caption there says it was taken at Weltenburg Abbey near Regensburg - where they make the famour beer. I remember commenting on it when we were discussing whether or not Papa ever smoked - he did not. The other two are puffing away - but not our Papa.
But isn't he just SCRUMPTIOUS in that photo!!!!!!!!
Get those other two men out of there - they pale into total obscurity don't they, on either side of him........
MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm
No more words - I'm a goner....Mary x [SM=g27811]

PHOTOS THAT WON'T COOPERATE

Teresa, you and I are both having problems posting photos today. Yours didn't come out on p. 4 and Image Shack is being uncooperative about what it will allow me to upload. Anybody have any good instructions on how to "grab" and insert a photo from today's Yahoo pics?

ANGEL IN A PUDDLE
A lotus blooming in the mud is a favorite and beautiful image evoked in Eastern religions. Well, Sihaya from the main forum found this picture of the Pope at Angelus reflected on a puddle in St. Peter's Square.

Benefan, sorry I can't help you as I still can;t get to use Image Shack! And somehow I think the Cool Cardinal pic I posted on Page 4 is now visible. Sihaya, too, had some "invisible" pictures for a while 'upstairs.'

Aiutami per favore! HELP!!
Help, please! Nan saw a photo posted by Ratzigirl [I think]. She had called it "The Fabulous Prince", but it's disappeared.
We would both like to find it and save it. I'm not sure whether it was on the Italian forum or on the English-speaking section.
Nan says this photo is magnificent.
If anyone has saved it, please will you post it here, so that we can grab it.
Vi ringrazio!
Thank you!
