Sembrano in dirittura di arrivo le trattative per portare i Duran Duran in Argentina per uno show gratuito il 24 novembre p.v., la notizia di ieri 20.10.2007 arriva direttamente dal quotidiano locale

Según trascendidos muy firmes la popular banda inglesa brindaría un recital en Mar del Plata organizado por la empresa del jamaiquino Max Higgins, el responsable de haber traído a Gloria Gaynor en julio.
Están muy avanzadas las negociaciones para traer a Duran Duran a mar del Plata para el cierre del evento World Football Idol que organiza Max Higgins.
Esta banda pop inglesa tomó su nombre de un villano de la película de culto "Barbarella" de Roger Vadim, y fue el más popular exitoso exponente del New romántica inglés de la década del ochenta. Su reputación fue armada a base de sus video clips, en los cuales mostraban su estilo glamour y fashion. Fueron una banda líder en la Segunda Invasión Británica de los Estados Unidos, conducida por la MTV.
Son todavía identificados a veces como una banda con aires de la década de 1980 a pesar de seguir grabando veinte años después. La banda ha vendido más de 70 millones de discos, y ha tenido 18 singles en la importante lista Billboard Hot 100, y treinta en el Top 40 de Gran Bretaña (UK Singles Chart), incluyendo "Planet Earth","Girls on Film","Rio", "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save a Prayer", "Is There Something I Should Know", "The Reflex" y la banda sonora de James Bond, "A View to a Kill" en los 80, "Serious","Ordinary World","Come Undone" y "White Lines" a principios de los 90, y "Sunrise" y "What Happens Tomorrow" en los 2000.
A finales de 2005 y comienzos de 2006 Duran Duran interpretó la canción de John Lennon "Instant Karma" para un recopilatorio de Amnistía Internacional para conmemorar el 25º aniversario de la muerte de Lennon. La banda también tocó esa canción en directo en varios conciertos de su gira; su interpretación contenía un ritmo más heavy que la de Lennon, particularmente el bajo.
A principios de 2006 se pudo ver a la banda actuando en dos grandes acontecimientos: el Premio Nobel y los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno en Turín, Italia. En una entrevista para BBC World antes de la aparición en los Juegos, John Taylor comentó que el nuevo álbum estaba al 50%. El 7 de Julio del 2007 actuó en el Live Earth en United Kingdom.

British superstars Duran Duran will visit Argentina in November of this year in celebration of the release of their new album Red Carpet Massacre- and to headline a spectacular concert that will form part of WORLD FOOTBALL IDOL, the first global contest ever launched to find the next big football star. The event will take place at the Minella Arena in Mar del Plata on Saturday November 24 and will be co-hosted by founder Sir Max Higgins and former superstar goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea. Legendary striker Gabriel Batistuta will make a special guest appearance, alongside many other sporting and entertainment luminaries. Tickets will go on sale on November 1 through Ticketek.
(Buenos Aires, October 22, 2007) – Sir Max Higgins announced today that British rock legends Duran Duran have committed to an exclusive performance at ROUND 3 of World Football Idol®/Ídolo Mundial de Fútbol® which is slated to take place at the Minella Arena in Mar del Plata on Saturday November 24. Duran Duran will headline this magnificent sports and music event that will be co-hosted by Higgins with Sergio Javier Goycochea, playing a full set comprising many of the classics as well as some of their new record. Round 3 of World Football Idol follows the event’s successful mainstream launch and Round 1-2 which took place on July 28, with football legend Diego Armando Maradona co-hosting.
Keen football enthusiasts themselves, the four band members (Simon LeBon: vocals, John Taylor: bass, Roger Taylor: drums and Nick Rhodes: keyboards) will be taking a break from a grueling overseas promotional schedule to come to Argentina for this show. Immediately prior to this they will be in New York City, where Duran Duran is playing an unprecedented ten-show, two week run on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in support of the release of their highly anticipated new album Red Carpet Massacre.
Performing in Manhattan for over two hours a night on November 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13, the band will take audiences in this historic thousand-capacity venue on a unique musical journey, presenting their new record in its entirety as well as all the classics. With magnificent production values and a completely new stage show, these concerts will be the band’s first dates in support of their new release.
Hotly tipped to be one of the best records of their illustrious 29 year career, this latest collection of material sees the band collaborating with superstar producers Timbaland and Nate ‘Danja’ Hills, as well as Justin Timberlake, with whom they co-wrote the album’s infectious first single: ‘Falling Down’.
The November date will mark DURAN DURAN’s third visit to Argentina, the last trip having been part of the Astronaut World Tour in 2005.
