spotted legs
Some representants of the Ancona breed Black white mottled (Nero picchiettato bianco) have black (black/greenish) spots on their yellow legs.

As their are here on the forum breeders of this race and coloration, could you tell me if these spots are requested or rejected by the Italian Standard ?

[SM=g7349] Vedi Crestillo ... I think you may be the right person to explain the historical reason for this phenomenon [SM=x1650010]

Thanks for the respond.
I try to understand what causes these dark spots on the yellow legs.
Some say it's normal for mottled colorations (mo/mo), others say it's due to a variant of the dermal inhibitor (id^a/id^a * id^a/-) a sex-linked mutation only on Anconas !?
For confirmation on this I am counting on the expertise of Crestillo.

In contrast to what I readed before the Black white mottled Ancona's carry Melantic ! Can you confirm they have a green shine on the black feathers ?
Did you ever did crosses with Exchequers ? If yes what are your experiences ?

But can you see that "green shine" also on the hens, even if it is less present ?

This should confirm they have Melanotic (or an other melanizer) which make them a good solid black with white pearls and prefend them of becoming too white as the Exchequers do which have not that melanizer !

Does anyone else did crosses between Ancona Black white pearls X Exchequer or even X White Livorno ?

I would appreciate to know what are the color results of these crosses !

The theory say that the combination of the ground-pattern E/E with the presence of the melaniser Ml/ML and the dermal inhibitor gene id^a/id^a * id^a/- causes these typical dark spots on the yellow legs of the Ancona Nero picchiettato bianco mo/mo.

This combination should also be the reason why only +- 1/5 of the feathers have V-shaped white mottles !

Ah ok, questa e il riflessi verdi di MELANOTICO (Ml/Ml) sul NERO ESTESO (E/E).
Remark also the V-shaped white mottles ;-)
Grazie per la foto.
