Carissima Gabriella!
Thank you for the photos. I found some photos of Monsignor Ratzinger handing over the keys of Papa's house to the Benedict XVI Foundation. He did this on the very day that Papa flew to Edinburgh- 16th September. I think these were on Getty website: I'll try to find them again, save them and post them here.
It will be very sad for Georg that they can no longer go to the house in Pentling. |

by Donato de 'Bardi
Announcing a big party for the brother of Pope Benedict XVI on Monday 25 October. Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, protonotary apostolic choirmaster emeritus, will receive the award of the "Fondazione Pro Musica and sacred art", chaired by Hans-Albert Courtial, an academic at the hall of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome.
With him, they will get recognition for their passion for the seven notes of Monsignor Domenico Bartolucci, the director emeritus of the perpetual Sistine Chapel Choir, Clemens Hellsberg, president of the Vienna Philharmonic, and Hans Urrigshardt, German patron.
Two days later, on October 27, the protagonists of the foundation and the award-winning Georg Ratzinger assist Pope's general audience, to greet and thank the holy father.

Thank you for this news, Gabriella. I hope there will be tons of photos! And it does mean that Georg will be seeing his brother again. I know they both long for these occasions. Well, I don't KNOW, but I assume they do. |

THE SOUL OF MARIA RATZINGER I have to confess I forgot this year to mention Papa's sister, Maria Ratzinger, who died on All Souls' Day 1991. She was on a trip to Regensburg to visit the family graves and had a stroke, from which she had already died before her brother Joseph could reach her.
What must he have been feeling as he visited those tombs in the grotto on Tuesday? [I posted a Rome Reports video of that on the Benedict news thread]
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace, Amen. |

Grazie, Gabriella! This is a lovely photo of Maria, looking happy. I don't think she was happy in Rome, but she went there for her baby brother. In fact, she dedicated her whole life to her brother Joseph.
I'm sure she is having her reward in Heaven and one can't imagine any Purgatory for such a holy lady.
RIP, dear Maria! |

Carissima Gabriella,
Some time ago I read that Monsignor Georg was due to travel to Rome on December 28th to spend post-Christmas time with his brother. I haven't heard any more about this and not seen any photos. Also, I can't watch the Angelus on EWTN - or one would hear his voice.
Do you know if he is in Rome?
Abbraccio forte! Mary xxxxx |

from Teresa's thread Thanks to Lella for alerting me to a short report in ]C]Die Wochenblatt, a regional newspaper, that last Friday, Mons. Georg Ratzinger, 87, underwent knee surgery at a Regensburg hospital, is doing well, and is in good spirits, according to a spokesman. The report does not indicate if both knees required surgery, but it explains that the Pope's brother had been experiencing increasing difficulty with negotiating stairs, and was advised surgery. Say a prayer for him and his brother...

Thank you for this update on Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, Flo and Teresa. I've seen nothing in online news items about him. It must be worrying for our beloved Papa.
Prayers for Monsignor Georg, please! |

Wochenblatt news item about Monsignor Georg
Wochenblatt - Georg Ratzinger, brother of Pope Benedict XV is currently in the hospital of the Brothers of Charity in Regensburg where he has been given a replacement knee joint at the age of 87.
The surgery was performed on Friday. "He has recovered well, and is doing well and has already displayed his sense of humor," a confidant of Monsignor Ratzinger told the weekly paper.
The former Director of Music has recently found walking and climbing stairs more and more difficult. The surgery will hopefully relieve these problem. Pope Benedict has kept in close touch and monitored the condition of his brother.
"Monsignor Ratzinger has received numerous good wishes," reports the Regensburg informant.including a greeting from the German national football team, sent via physiotherapist Klaus Eder.
