To include any Catholic television channels viewed by our members.
Some of us watch EWTN a lot, but please also use this thread for any Papal broadcasts you watch on other channels. I think KTO is viewed by some of our European members and there are other channels in Germany and Italy.

I thought this thread would be a good idea, because sometimes I come close to missing - yes, missing! - Papa live on EWTN. This is because not all the events from the Vatican are included in the monthly schedule I receive and we have to rely on the Vatican website.

All I did was to click on Nuova to the left of Rispondi and it allowed me to start a new thread. I'm sure this is, or was, open to all members.

Luff to all,
Mary [SM=g27823]

For those of us in Europe this will be at 16.00 London time/17.00 Rome time on Saturday 28th. It will be shown on EWTN, although the schedule doesn't show it.

Concert on December 6th
@benefan:Do you know what time - Rome time - this concert will take place? EWTN viewers will need to know, so that we can switch on an hour before that time. There's an outside chance it will be shown on EWTN. Not one of the concerts [and there have been several, haven't there!] has been shown on EWTN, which is such a shame. I don't think they can afford to "buy" everything from CTV, as the cost is tremendous.

Thank you for the information about other Catholic stations.

Just seen the First Vespers. Papa's cope looked rather heavy. I like the new staff, but I didn't dislike the Pius IX one.

Oops - just re-read your post above and you do give the time. That's Eastern Time plus five hours for London time. Thanks, benefan!!

Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Don't forget that Papa will be at the Spanish Steps on December 8th in the afternoon. Check the time in your own time zone. I think it will start at 16.00 Rome time.

OK - it's not EWTN, but I like checking out Catholic TV.  They have lots of selections including Papal Programming on demand.  And what I like about it is, it's in English over voice.

Check out their website at http://www.catholictv.com/shows/default.aspx?seriesID=124&videoID=903

and go to the home page.  You can review all the categories and what they have in each.

Enchoy .....  Linda

VESPERS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Papa will preside at Vespers for students from the various universities of Rome in Saint Peter's basilica on Thursday, December 17th at 17.30 pm - that is, 16.30 London time and five hours earlier Eastern Time USA.

This sort of thing is usually aired live by EWTN even if it isn't in the schedule of special programming - so be ready with your recorders and fingers on the record button!!!!!

This was, indeed, aired live by EWTN and was beautiful - lovely music. Papa looked superb in a sort of "old rose" coloured cope - I'm not very good on these colours. I don't like copes - full stop! But I know that's what he has to wear for Vespers. The cope seems to swamp him.

Haven't checked to see if there are any photos on the news pages, as I've been without my computer for nearly three days. Was just beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

Nativity Scene in Saint Peter's Square
I didn't know beforehand or I would have posted about this. EWTN showed about fifteen minutes of the inauguration of the creche. The whole one and a half hours were shown on CTV and I was able to see all of it on my computer. Papa didn't attend this year. Did he last year? I can't remember. But.....his window was opened as the band played "Silent Night" and then the light went off in the room and Papa came to the window and placed a lighted candle in a glass bowl on his window sill. It was a memorable moment! That was not shown on EWTN so I couldn't record it.
There was quite a long liturgy of the Word and some lovely singing by small children wearing Santa hats, some dancing by young people and more singing of rather modern Christmas songs by another group of young people wearing long gowns and light blue scarves.
Unfortunately it was raining all the time, but no one seemed to mind!
Near the end the little children had yellow or white balloons and after the countdown from "dieci" to "uno" let them up into the sky with a "Buon Natale!".
Wish I had been there!!!!

This photo appeared very quickly on AP.

FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY

Mass tomorrow morning from Saint Peter's at 9 am GMT, 10 am Rome, 4 am US Eastern. I'm sure there will be encores - so watch out for them, as many in the USA will find the time somewhat early!!!!!

EWTN will probably stay with CTV for the Angelus afterwards - so don't switch off!

SPECIAL ROSARY

EWTN had a special rosary for the people of Haiti, prayed by Father Mark Mary and a group of people in the small church at EWTN. Father led the people in the Sorrowful Mysteries, beautifully prayed with all the prayers. Wish we did that in my parish.

Father John Hogan, co-presenter of the series "The Forgotten Heritage: Europe and the Eucharist" on EWTN, meets Papa after a General Audience in October 2008. Father Hogan is the founder and father director of the Fraternity of Saint Genesius, which is dedicated to furthering knowledge of the Catholic Faith through the media. If you missed the series, which has one episode left, I'm sure it will be repeated.
