QUEEN & PAUL RODGERS NEW STUDIO RECORDINGS
OK - I know I don't write much about our music recording work in the studio. But, it's deliberate really ... I feel a reluctance to take advantage of this Soapbox platform to expose too much of what must essentially be a private process, needing room to breathe and develop organically. I'm happy to say that the process has worked, in a very fine way.
This (second) period of 3 weeks of QUEEN/RODGERS recording sessions is over now, so, for a while at least, I can get my life back a bit ! It's actually tough, being so closely focussed on what has to be a very emotional workplace, and during these times, life outside virtually stops. But we have some good music on the boil ... about 8 songs so far - with some great moments, I think ....very grown-up and organic in feel. It is ALL played ... together as a band; no samples, drum machines, or protools fabrications. You can hear the interactions of us as musicians in a room - very rare these days ! We are very excited, but conscious that there is a little further to go before we are ready to launch the new material on the world. The greatest thing for me has been to see us evolving into a proper band - like the old days. Every day we have played together in the studio, trying out ideas, and most of the tracks we are working on are the result of playing a song for the first or second time only ... the freshness and spirit of adventure all being there. And we have not even been 'careful' ! By this I mean that mostly we have treated our playing together not as a baseline, but as the front line of what the performance will turn out to be. In the past we have often put down a pure backing track - say, Drums, bass and rhythm guitar, and added the 'top lines' - lead vocals and lead guitars - afterwards. In what we are doing now, Paul sings it for real, on the take, as well as playing piano or guitar, or bass, and I play the lead guitar for real, and Roger is interacting in the moment too, so this very organic, live moment is what you will hear on the final mix. We are able to add some craftsmanship to this in the ways that we have learned over the years, especially as regards those trademark harmony vocals and guitar 'orchestras' - plus play with the blend of sounds ... and gradually the new music is taking shape. To my ears it sounds as if it is full of our joint heritage, but different from anything either Paul or Queen have done in the past. This session produced some welcome heavy crunch, as well as some more contemplative textured moments ... These things, it seems, cannot really be planned ... they happen, if you are lucky, when you put the work and spirit in, when you keep an awareness of the balance between instinctive and analytic, and when the Muses smile on you.
A break, now - time for getting perspectives, regaining freshness, and having new thoughts.

Brian comunica che un secondo periodo di tre settimane di registrazione con Rodgers è terminato. Le sue impressioni sono ottime. Pare che siano stare composte 8 canzoni, con alcuni "grandi momenti"... Brian è entusiasta dall'aver suonato insieme come una band, senza artifizi tecnologici, ed è possibile (o sarà possibile) ascoltare i musicisti interagire tra di loro in sala di registrazione, cosa molto rara ai giorni nostri. Sono tutti molto eccitati ma anche consci che c'è molto da fare prima che il nuovo materiale sia pronto per la pubblicazione.
La cosa più importante per Brian è sentirsi nuovamente parte di una band e di esserne coinvolto, proprio come ai vecchi tempi.

Well, I don't really feel it's right to get into too many details at this point, but, as things stand, in the recent Queen/Rodgers sessions, all three of us have played some bass ! (me most of all) Whether the tracks will end up that way, I'm not sure - we may invite someone in at some point, but for the purposes of getting our heads together, and evolving not only songs, but ways of creating, it has worked out well just having the three of us, so far.
I have to say again that that old "One Vision" footage of us in the studio has to be taken with a bit of a pinch of salt, because we were so aware of the cameras being around, a very unusual thing in our sessions, that we were not behaving typically ! I supppose all 'documentaries' have to be viewed in this light - knowing that the presence of the cameras changes so much. But this in particular was defintiely shot by the Torpedo Twins with an agenda - an intention of painting a certain picture. We have no cameras or video recorders in our current sessions - it makes life much less stressful !

ovviamente nemmeno Moses fa parte delle sessions...ma questo credo che fosse prevedibile...

Io direi + semplicemente, che i Queen, in studio, si sono sempre arrangiati, e questa nuova avventura ha sempre il marchio Queen! Chissà... nel mio cuore spererei in un ripensamento di John e magari "il qualcuno che inviteremo" sarà proprio lui, anche se non sarà così! :(

Se prima era sempre moooolto restio a raccontare particolari dei suoi lavori, bè ora sembra proprio non avere peli sulla lingua...per chi volesse fargli delle domande ne approfitti ora, ci proverò pure io...
Nel frattempo fa capire che neppure Spike sta suonando...è una faccenda a tre, suonano tutti gli strumenti, persino l'ukulele elettrico....

ohhh finalmente qualke news sul nuovo album!
devo dire ke lo stile d brian mi piace molto, si sente ke sono tutti e 3 cariki d entusismo e buone iniziative!
bello e interessante il riferimento a brani heavy, segno ke la regina nn ha perso la voglia d fare musica tosta!
sono anke contento quando brian specifica ke nn verranno utilizzate drum machine ecc... già nella turnè hanno dimostrato d saperci fare, e parekkio, con gli strumenti dal vivo xciò sarebbe stato 1 peccato oscurare il tutto con troppi effetti...
interessante anke l'impostazione "dal vivo" ke stanno dando alle registrazioni, 1 pò come ai tempi d the miracle in cui alcuni pezzi sono finiti sull'album in presa diretta.
la mia speranza è ke cmq si affidino x la produzione a un david richards x esempio xkè, d solito, quando dei musicisti si autoproducono tendono a strafare 1 pò troppo: meglio avere accanto qualcuno ke t sa criticare nel modo giusto.

x quanto riguarda invece l'assenza d danny miranda beh, me lo aspettavo!
se c pensate bene, coinvolgere fin da subito 1 musicista avrebbe obbligato i nostri 3 a metterlo alla pari, cioè a coinvolgerlo nella fase creativa delle canzoni.
così invece, danny o non danny, eventuali musicisti aggiunti dovranno limitarsi solo a suonare su pezzi già pronti!
e poi kissà ke questo nn sia 1 espediente x tentare 1 ultimo approccio a john (deacon): magari ascoltando i nuovi brani gli prende la voglia d dare il suo contributo!
e sempre a proposito d john, nn dimentikiamoci ke dovrà cmq dare il suo ok xkè nel nome Queen lui c'entra ancora!! |

Scusate....ma negli anni '80 in studio con i queen,spike edney o chi x lui,mica registravano in studio con i queen ( a parte rarissime partecipazioni...)?
Brian,Roger e John erano in grado di suonare sia chitarra,che basso,che tastiere,che batteria....(si anche brian suona la batteria...)
Freddie....ovviamente era il principale tastierista della band in studio!
Oggi c'è il buon Paul Rodgers che è un polistrumentista affermato (il suo album solista,electric mi pare si chiami...l'ha suonato al 90% lui....con l'eccezione solo degli assoli di chitarra). E come già detto Brian e Roger sanno suonare tranquillamente basso e tastiere! Anche xkè nn è che debbano esser suonate fughe di bach alle tastiere,ma semplicemente pad e arpeggi vari....

e come ho scritto nell'altro topic è una cosa normalissima che miranda non ci sia, dato che, ricordo, stanno ancora componendo e a quanto pare si stanno divertendo a provare a mettere su disco la musica per vedere come suona (questo è quello che ho capito da quello scritto dal ricciolo questi giorni).
Nessuno sa se chiameranno o no miranda quando dovranno registrare per metterle sul disco.Può essere di no ma può essere anche di si. -------------------------------------------------------------

Non mi sembra! Su A Kind Of Magic parte delle tastiere son suonate da Spike Edney... cmq era scontato che per quest'album non ci fosse bisogno di Spike e Jamie... mentre credevo che almeno Danny lo avrebbero chiamato... ma chissenefrega! l'importante è che ora i Queen sono di nuovo in studio più carichi e creativi che mai!!! Mi sto già leccando i baffi... speriamo che sia bello metallozzo... cmq speriamo che prendano un vero bassista, soprattutto un bassista old school alla paul jones o alla geezer butler.. ok, non dubito che loro sappiano suonare il basso, ma il basso è un elemento importantissimo, e secondo farebbero meglio farlo suonare ad un vero professionista (anche se miranda mi sta simpaticissimo e sono il suo primo fan, però non è cosa sua... )...poi se vogliono fare dei pezzi heavy, figuriamoci...lì ci vuole il vero tocco del maestro... ----------------------------------------
