AN UPDATE

Since all of you have been so supportive through my recent coronary problems, I just wanted to update you on my followup appointment with the cardiologist today. Basically, he said he didn't know what is wrong with me but he gave me some Calcium Channel Whatevers to take in addition to the Beta Blockers, aspirin, and my regular blood pressure medication.

I think I told y'all already my heart arteries turned out to be totally clear and all my numerous blood tests turned out not just normal but superb. Even my mitral valve prolapse is mild. I just have a potentially lethal erratic heartbeat. I am supposed to use the two new medications for two weeks and return to see the cardiologist on Feb. 16 so he can see if I am still alive. At that point, he says he may want me to wear a Holter monitor for a day to see how erratic my heartbeat is then and whether certain situations in particular (LIKE WORK or looking at Papa photos) set it off. Until then, no strenuous exercise. (Darn)

Anyhow, that is my medical report. I know, without all your prayers, it would have been terrible instead. Y'all have performed your first miracle. Thanks again.

Dearest benefan...Although there's still the question of the erratic heartbeat, at least all the other potentially serious heart problems have been ruled out. Except for the erratic heartbeat, all you've said sounds exactly like where I was 10 years ago, and there have been no scares so far....I certainly hope Papa's pictures jolt your heart into regular rhtyhm even if accelerated! ...Take care...You have our prayers....

You will continue to be in my prayers, benefan, until you tell us that everything is very very well.

Please could I ask the prayers of people here for one of my oldest friends, Bernie, who has very serious ongoing health problems. As well as two slipped discs which have caused walking difficulties and numbness (despite numerous operations), she has an auto immune disease for which there is no cure, and on top of everything is to have a full hysterectomy on Thursday, assuming her bad cold has abated. She needs this operation badly, and a delay could mean months and months of waiting again. Please pray that the operation goes ahead and her recovery is swift - she's a Catholic and admires Papa Benedetto; once she is well enough to travel (depending on her back), I am hoping to go with her to Lourdes.

Please pray for Bernie as her operation is tomorrow. Her cold is a bit better so she is being admitted, however there is at present a virus in the hospital causing vomiting and stomach upset and it's a bit worrying. She really needs this operation and I am quite concerned about her. She is far too young to be this unwell.

I will definitely say some prayers for Bernie, Wulfrune. The poor thing sounds like she is getting hammered. It's bad enough to deal with a cold let alone all those other things. She must be feeling awful physically and emotionally at this point. I think the trip to Lourdes is a beautiful idea. A side trip to the shrine at Altoetting(?)when a certain pope is there would be a real pick-me-up too.

Dear Wulfrune...I feel so close to your friend Bernie, because I also have many chronic afflictions. Please assure her of my prayers, that she will undergo this surgery without delay and successfully, and that both of you will be on your way to Lourdes soon. Also, that lately, I have been asking the great and good John Paul II's intercession for all matters regarding health...God bless...

benefan, bernie and all of us with health stuff. Benefan, you also have a heart valve prolapse? Wonder if it is the same thing as my "Barlow syndrome"? Doctor told me it doesn't per se means an early good bye to the world. Get well girls! Our choral number for B16 shouldn't only SOUND good! We'll have to look sprightly and stunning as well!

After the initial report in the German press earlier today that the Pope's brother had been admitted to a hospital in Regensburg, without further details, it was somewhat comforting to hear the following:

The Pope's brother, Mons. Georg Ratzinger, was admitted to the hospital of the Merciful Fathers in Regensburg today for a recurrence of irregular heartbeat. But his doctor, Walter Niederer, has since announced that it is not life-threatening and that the 82-year-old Monsignor may go home this weekend.

The arrhytmia was first diagnosed last summer when he was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome while vacation in Castel Gandolfo, because he complained of chest pains. A pace-maker was installed.

This is the second time he has been admitted to a hospital in Regensburg since then. Doctors then said it was for a check-up.

I've just seen it - on Yahoo news. It was comforting to read your report that Big Georg is better and may go home at the weekend.
Mary, Mirror of All Holiness, watch over him and keep him safe.
Help his brother, Joseph, to keep calm and not worry. Help our Papa Joseph too to carry out his onerous tasks for Lent, even though he must thinking about his brother.

Please light an extra candle at Mass tomorrow, everyone.

Keeping Big Georg and Benefan in my prayers as always.

I thought an update might be appropriate since I wrote asking for prayers for Bernie, who suffers from various afflictions which have kept her housebound and in constant pain. Three years ago she was fully active and looking forward to starting her career as a teacher, for which she had studied for seven years, then two slipped discs changed all that and worse was to come.

There seemed no change, rather a worsening of her condition since I posted a prayer request here. I had a Mass said for her and have almost burned down our church with candles.... and yesterday I visited her and she seems rather better. The hysterectomy seems to have been a crucial factor in the upswing, despite three weeks post op infection and sickness. Please, please, continue to pray for her as she is now threatened with a permanent catheterisation due to what seems like a botched bladder operation. But despite that, I was really impressed by her upbeat tone and increased mobility when I saw her yesterday. She's only 47 and it would be awful if she were reliant on bags for the rest of her life.

We discussed Padre Pio, who she thinks is taking an interest in her (I hope so!) and a long-hoped for visit to Lourdes (her name is Bernadette). Continued prayers please, because they are having an effect.

Dear Wulfrune - Please give our best wishes to Bernie and assure her of prayers from your friends here at the Forum. She must draw strength and inspiration from God through her patron saints Bernadette and Padre Pio. I hope the bladder problem resolves- she didn't need to have a new problem created by her surgeons!
