I hope, pic posting is exactly the same as RFC
Yes, it is...but I'm sorry it should not become new Topic [Modificato da Simone55 29/11/2005 11.49] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where was this office--in his apartment or at work? It looks smaller than the office I have seen him at in photos of the CDF. |

This bottom photo with the bookshelves behind him, I think is in his study at his old apartment. The others must be at the CDF. |

Now, this one is definitely his private study at the Apostolic Palace....One thing all of his desks have in common - they look like desks on which actual work is done!
I am, of course, fascinated, by the objects that are photographed and what they indicate of his personality. In this particular photograph, I was most struck by the little crystal vase of red flowers. These are flowers that definitely did not come from a florist - they look like they were picked in the garden when he went for a walk, and I commented on this last week on "Immagine Varie", before Ratzigirl posted that article about his former classmate who spoke about flowers he picked for them in a park.
Since we first saw a picture of him sniffing a bunch of field-picked flowers offered to him by children the day he arrived at Les Combes, we have seen other pictures of him doing that - and I think it says so much that a person loves flowers the way he does.
Of course, there are so many other objects on his desk(s) and bookcases that one can remark upon...I think Simone opened a thread properly, after all. Let's scrutinize Ratzi's desk(s) and see if it gives us an insight into his personality if not hims mind. An idle exercise, the more earnest souls will say, but if someone wants to "exercise" this way, then why not?

This is fun! He has so much interesting stuff, it reminds me of that party game where there are items on a tray and you have to memorise them and then have to remember what each of them was. Note the scissors and what might be a nail file/letter opener in a little leather holder on two of the pictures including the most recent. Why would he keep it on his desk? Maybe Maria gave it to him. I also wonder why he has his wallet on his desk? Most people keep theirs in their briefcase.
Yes, that second one I posted is def of his private apartment. If you go to the Picture and Video thread and look at the pix of him playing the piano, on one of them you can see on the wall almost out of sight, a small square picture - it looks identical with the one on the top right corner of the desk photo. A print of an antique world map.
I agree totally about the flowers thing. I love flowers very much and like to put them in little vases.
I'd think that some of his clutter may be things he's been given and is a bit sentimental about. The pen holder, for instance. As there is a bottle of ink and a rolling blotter on one picture, it indicates he prefers a fountain pen, so the pen holder, which probably holds a biro, is not much used. I may be wrong.
Incidentally, I think the older photo that I posted may be of the same CDF office, but before a re-decoration. It has those sheers at the window.
On Teresa's picture I don't see a crucifix, though it may be out of sight, but there is what may be an olive wood statue of St Joseph, the kind you get in the Holy Land.

The thing I notice is how neat his desk is... even when he is working... there may be little piles of papers and books all over, but his desk is so neat! [Modificato da NanMN 05/12/2005 6.03] |

So many books, so less time
I love to see Papa behind his beloved books ----------------------------------------
Die Liebe ist ein Anspruch, der mich nicht unberührt lässt. In ihm kann ich nicht einfach schlicht ich bleiben, sondern ich muss mich immer wieder verlieren, indem ich zugehobelt werde, verwundet werde. Re: Papa between his books Papa is between his books in the cellar of Holy Ufficium where the old secret archive of former Inquisition is. You can see the books are well done of leather and pages are yellow...I have this photo on the czech edition of "God and World".
The archive was opened to public (i guess in the end of former century) and it was great event for science that astronoms decided to name Asteroid No. 8661 (discovered in 1990)"Ratzinger".
We can only hope the Asteroid "Ratzinger" will not try to get closer to its human original. |

Oh no, I don't think he can use this cold clinical looking place except for official meetings. He will have a private study and of course his library of 'old friends' where he will do his own work. |
