Papa speaking “words of wisdom” and hope.
Urbi et Orbi, Christmas Day:
Men and women of today, humanity come of age yet often still so frail in mind and will, let the Child of Bethlehem take you by the hand! Do not fear; put your trust in him! The life-giving power of his light is an incentive for building a new world order based on just ethical and economic relationships. May his love guide every people on earth and strengthen their common consciousness of being a "family" called to foster relationships of trust and mutual support. A united humanity will be able to confront the many troubling problems of the present time: from the menace of terrorism to the humiliating poverty in which millions of human beings live, from the proliferation of weapons to the pandemics and the environmental destruction which threatens the future of our planet.”

At his homily on Christmas Eve he said this lovely prayer:
“Where there is conflict, give birth to peace! Where there is hatred, make love spring up! Where darkness prevails, let light shine! Make us heralds of your peace! Amen.”

P.S. Not that I want to criticise Papa’s secretary or assistants or anything, but Papa needs someone who can do the “finishing touch “ –so to speak- on his clothing. A woman’s hand……perhaps……. [SM=g27816] [SM=g27816] [SM=g27838] [SM=g27838]

"NEW" ARCHBISHOP PIX
Amid all the Christmas photo excitement, Sihaya and Ratzigirl unearthed two previously "unseen" pictures
of Ratzi in his early days as Archbishop of Munich.

This was taken the day when he "took possession" of the Archdiocese of Munich:

And this is one of his early pictures as Archbishop.

It just occurred to me -
Ratzi went from plain Father Ratzinger to Archbishop Ratzinger (and Cardinal Ratzinger a month later),
without going through intermediate stages as Monsignor or Bishop, didn't he?
--------------------------------------------------------------

LutheranGuest - I have been waiting for an ecclesiastical explanation of the belted garment Papa wore under the gold chasuble for the Urbi et Orbi message - it's yet another "new" thing in papal vestments that we are seeing with Papa. I agree someone should have tied the belt more neatly!

GENERAL AUDIENCE TODAY
Again, thanks to Sylvie -

It looks like the hatters have re-contoured the camauro for a better fit on our Benedict's head.

Teresa: "It looks like the hatters have re-contoured the camauro for a better fit on our Benedict's head."

Benefan: No, he just had it on backwards last week or else it is on backwards this week. With a thing like that, it is hard to tell which end is up. It needs to be put in the back of a closet for another 500 years.

FROM TODAY'S AUDIENCE

It's fascinating that Papa's hair remains very well-combed when he takes off the camauro!
And the second picture shows to best advantage the conjunction of red cape and white Papal overcoat...

IN PROPITIATION

How about this awesome picture from the Midnight Mass - complete with wayward strands of hair -
to make up for the unavoidable c.....o pictures?
P.S. I don't generally like miters, but Papa's shorter miters are an improvement, and this one is
particularly beautiful.

Sylvie, on a propose la casquette Basque - mais en blanche - qui'il a favori pendant ses annees au CDF...
It would be cute, and quite a fashion statement, but a beret won't cover his ears against the cold!
We have 10 more weeks of winter to find out what fashion surprises, if any more, Papa has for us.

The white beret would be very cute and, as you say Teresa, similar to what he wore in the CDF. It would be even cuter with his coat of arms embroidered on it. He apparently didn't wear anything to cover his ears then and doesn't now once he gets off the popemobile. Even the first time he wore the c...., he didn't pull it down over his ears so a beret would have the same effect. Since there are two papal tailoring firms falling all over themselves for his business, one of them should be able to come up with a suitable protective hat for him that doesn't diminish his appearance. Also, the coat/cape combination that opens at the chest doesn't seem to adequately protect him from the cold. Maybe it's just time to move the audiences inside and stop struggling with what he should wear.

Re: Maklara's link
Dear mag6nideum,
I recommend you to download Realplayer. I have better experience with it and I have heard it has even more quality than Windows Media Player.
I am sure that you will open videos with it.(I use Real for these videos too).

Good luck and write if you will be successful...even if not [SM=g27835]
