VATICAN SITE CUTS DOWN PHOTO GALLERY
I am shocked that the Vatican site has drastically reduced its Photo Grallery overnight - They've taken out all the events prior to Bari (and that means no election, no first Mass, etc) and they've also taken out all the audience pictures. Why on earth did they do do this??????

Teresa, the Vatican has been redesigning its website. The main page has been altered a few times recently, with a new photo of Benedict, which looks nicer than the previous one, I think. However, when I just clicked on news/photos and then photogallery, they still had the election photos, the installation Mass, and a number of audiences. If they ever do start deleting our Papa photos, we will have to follow Ratzigirl's lead and start emailing our protests to the Vatican. We can't live without those photos.

PAPAL WEAR UPDATE - THAT'S NOT A SANTA CAP!
Radio Vatican's German service informs us today:

The 78-year-old Pope today wore the "camauro" against the cold in St. Peter's Square. The ermine-lined velvet cap was the official non-liturgical headgear for Popes from the Middle Ages till the 19th century. Afterwards, it was only seen on John XXIII. However, for the rest of today's audience, the Pope took off the camauro and remained with the pileolus, the white Papal skullcap, which would not have sufficed as protection against the cold while the Pope was travelling through the crowds in the open Popemobile.
[One of the German girls said it was 3 degrees Centigrade Wednesday morning in Rome - about 37-38 Fahrenheit]

PICTURE OF THE DAY
For all the fuss about Papa's camauro, this is my favorite picture today so far:

PHOTO PERSPECTIVE OF TODAY'S AUDIENCE
Sylvie has finished her montage of today's thumbnails from Catholic PressPhoto. With or without camauro,Papa looks adorable as usual.

And from the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, a videoclip:

Remember ? Look at Papa's lovely smile [SM=x40800] [SM=x40800]
----------------------------------------

PAPA ADMIRES A CRECHE
I know a version of this picture (one that shows the full height of the Christmas tree) has been posted twice in this section (on two different threads). But Osservatore Romano used this black-and-white photo on its front page today (12/22/05), which shows Papa's expression quite clearly, as well as the figures in the creche, and I cannot find the original on their photo gallery site.

If someone can trace the original color photograph and post it here, it would be greatly appreciated. It's a beautiful Christmas card in itself!

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO THE CURIA
With her usual efficiency, Sylvie in the French section has assembled this photomontage
of the Pope's traditional Christmas reception for the Curia this morning.

Note: Papa is wearing the ermine-trimmed winter mozzetta he first wore on December 8;
in some of the pictures, one can see the hood attached to it.

WE HAVE PHOTOS!!!

How nice to have a forum with such beautiful photos, especially those with our favorite person's glorious white hair in full view. Also nice not to be lectured at repeatedly about rules and restrictions but to be free to enjoy the beauty of this world. I love being here in cyberItaly!

Yes, Quite.......
Benefan and Nan, you are so right!!! If only I had shut my big mouth, all might have just gone away again. I don't see how anyone loses any money from this 'sharing' any more than one does from a picture taken from a magazine and pinned to a public noticeboard. As I see it, the pasting from restricted access sites is as much, or more of, an infringement, and nothing was ever said about this by the self styled Grinch. This leads me to think that the main reason for all this intervention is a disapproval of 'swooning'. Just read the comments on the 'dinner thread' which showed a lack of understanding of the whole concept - and managed to kill it off very successfully. That forum could end up with about five people talking to themselves and no one else.

Why would someone with so little posting history repeatedly attempt to undermine a friendly established community of people?

WULFRUNE,

Don't blame yourself for the censorship going on at the RFC. It's certainly not your fault. I don't really see the problem with what has been posted there either and feel very bad that the warm, friendly spirit that existed there has been squelched. It is sad to see that camaradarie get whacked yet again, especially at this time of year. However, our Italian friends have taken us in with open arms and understanding hearts so let's rejoice at our good fortune. I look forward to another year of lovely Papa pics (hopefully without the camauro--sorry, I can't let that go) and interesting news articles.

SOME THOUGHTS
Thank you for the sensible words, Benefan; and Wulfrune, you acted correctly expressing yourself openly, as did MaryBenedict.
However, Christopher has re-stated his stand quite clearly, so I can only say the obvious:
1. The RFC has a direct link to Ratzigirl's forum.
2. Anyone at RFC who wants to look at photographs can visit Ratzigirl's photo threads any time.
3. If anyone wishes to post photos as well, make comments, or even initiate and carry on discussions, this can be done through the French and English sections without being registered (but as registration here is quite easy and does not require pre-approval, and will entitle the user to full use of the forum - main as well as satellite sections - then please go ahead and register).

I think the above is a good expedient. Dual membership has been very practical and enjoyable for those of us who belong to both forums.

Also, consider using your favorite picture of Ratzi as part of your standard signature (not just as avatar) in both forums - in a fairly decent size -
that way, the photo will appear whenever you post anything.
Like this, for instance, in maybe half the size
(if it is available without the watermark!)- from a new post by Ratzigirl:

And that's a beautiful way to liven up any page!

However, I do hope more substantive discussions take place in both forums.
