Flo,
I love that photo. That nun must belong to our forum. I admire her technique--creative, persistent, but unfortunately not too dignified.

Ha, ha, benefan!!!!!!! I hoped to get a comment out of someone over this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes I think our Papa has put on weight, but I suspect it's only those layers of ecclesiastical vestments. He looked so slim or "schlank" as the Germans say, when he was a cardinal, but that could have been partly the black cassock. I hope he hasn't put on weight, because that could cause health problems and he's already got eye problems to contend with. Have you noticed his left eye? It worries me a lot. Our wonderful, holy man must be wrapped in cotton wool.

Well, I can respond to the weight comment as the Germans would say: völliger Blödsinn!!
I was actually getting concerned in the last few months, because it seemd as if he had dropped more weight than really necessary!! [Modificato da cowgirl2 13/06/2010 08:38] |

The international mass takes place every wednesday in the underground saint Pie X basilica. It contains up to 20 000 people. You can see the entrance with the banners
Our bishop, cardinal Barbarin presided over since he was the highest ranking present that day. You can see the priests, the helpers and the young boys and girls with red, yellow, green hats are from catholic schools from our diocese. They come to help the sick.
Here is the mass at the grotto. This one was for our diocese. We attended from the other side of the river. It is well organised. You can hear very well and for the communion, priests come to us.
On that one, we are planting two crosses to remember the diocese's pilgrimage. It is the first time that was done. I think it is just for this year.
More to come...

I love the photos, Flo
Thanks for posting them. It is wonderful how the students are encouraged to help the sick. That is a great way for them to put their faith into action and it must be comforting to the sick people to see such goodness in the young.
The pics of the basilica are very interesting. Despite its large size, it makes me feel claustrophobic. I prefer the soaring spires and large windows of the old-fashioned churches.

Thanks for all the photos, Flo!!!! Lourdes is so very "Catholic" with all the banners and candles. It's such a contrast to our parish, where even the suggestion of a procession is squashed immediately. Our diocesan Glastonbury pilgrimage [July] is much better - if I go this year, I'll post some photos. |

Here is the marian procession. It takes place everyday at 9 p.m. starting from the grotto, all the way around up to the rosary basilica. We pray the rosary; Speakers start the ave maria in all kind of languages, sometimes you don't even know in which language and then you continue in your own.
The whole trip takes one hour...
and this last one to show you the work of the helpers. It takes a lot of time to bring the sick in and off. It is well organised. Some helpers regulate the traffic and say each helper when it is their turn to leave. |
