WATCH OUT, SISTERS
Maryjos is going to be soooo jealous if the Sisters have such a close relationship with Papa that he is seeking out their company while all the rest of us must brave the Vatican dungeon on the mere chance of a charitable visit by him to the prisoners. |

How sweet these comments are, the italian girls have a good sense of humour.
But obviously Papa is really looking forward to this appointment, did you see the smile on his face?
Oh what a wonderful dream......can you imagine...... |

Our indefatigable friend from France, Sylvie, is running on all cylinders today. Besides her must-read account (See Papal Events thread) of how the nuns of Rome reacted to the Pope yesterday, she also came up with verses for Papa, which I have translated herewith-
--------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes I look at the other cardinals and wonder-
And if it had been him who was elected?
I like some of them, yes, and very much -
But no one else has the look HE has -
and everything behind that look!
John Paul II must be very pleased:
If he had pushed a little up there
so that his friend would be the choice -
then he succeeded, very well indeed.
The world has its share
of men who look good,
of men who are good,
of men who are brilliant,
entertaining, passionate.
But all these virtues in one man -
that's too much to ask, I find.
He is not human, I think -
The Holy Spirit dwells in him.
In ancient Rome they would have said
he is a demi-god, in whom
beauty and all other divine graces
are manifest in human guise.
And apart from the fact he is beyond reach
and that he is not immortal -
I find no fault in him.

Oh oh oh......what verses!!!!! How very moving those verses are! It's what I also feel, but would not have been able to write. I've often thought Papa is like some Greek god [note the small g - don't want to be blasphemous]. He looked like one in that 1972 photo from Colombia and he still does.....it's remarkable, amazing....he is perfection.
Dear John Paul, you wanted it to be him, didn't you! You asked God and he answered; God asked Joseph Ratzinger and he said "Yes!"
And now........he is ours!!!!!!
VIVA IL PAPA BENEDICT XVI! Love you, Papa!
Love, Mary x |

SUGGESTIVE PHOTOS
*So, Jil, you are trying to bribe the Swiss Guards with Swiss cheese??? Not sure that's going to work. Ah, but maybe several gallons of that wine in the background will knock them out.
*Teresa, do you suppose that note being passed to Papa has somebody's phone number on it? Good to know he accepts notes. Now we have yet another way of attempting to communicate with him. [Modificato da benefan 14/12/2005 21.26] |

Ladies, quick! Do you know of any other nearly-80 year-old man who has ever been the object of the kind of magnificent obsession that all of us have for our Blessed Beloved Benedict -on this scale, in numbers? Or anyone older than 40, for that matter? [I read Franz Liszt, even in old age and as a priest, continued to attract female devotees as he did when he was the virtuoso toast of Europe, but a) he only lived to 75, and b)I've seen pictures of him at the Liszt Museum in Bayreuth, and
Ratzi wins the looks prize by a mile!] |

Sylvie, merci - I did see Beatrice's post earlier, with the
magazine cover and the start of the story on Victor, but I thought I would wait for her to post the article itself before
posting everything here in the English translation. However, I realize now, she is scanning an Italian article, which she must translate to French before she can post it...so I will go ahead and post here what she has posted so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------
At the train station, Beatrice noticed the December 14 issue of the Italian magazine Oggi, because the Pope was on the cover, with an accompanying story on Page 2. [ Oggi is a People-type magazine].
The words on the cover say:
The moving scene of Ratzinger's prodigy*
In Germany, they shout:
This Pope already works miracles
*The Italian word 'prodigio' can mean both 'miracle' (the act) as well as "prodigy" (the person)
Ratzinger works miracles? In Germany, they say Yes
The Pope's caress has healed Victor
The doctors did not give him any hope: his cancer had metastasized throughout his body. He asked his parents to bring him to Benedict XVI in Cologne. Today, three months after that meeting, the tumor has mysteriously disappeared....
--------------------------------------------------------------
I must point out that I have not yet seen a medically coherent story about Victor - else, we would have carried it already - and that the terms and "facts" reported by the tabloids and celebrity press so far are not objective. So, any sweeping statements made about a possible miracle would probably be premature at best and rather questionable.
I hope the rest of the article is more informative. For instance, if the tumor (which was in the brain, according to the first stories that ever came out about Victor that day in Cologne) has disappeared, how about the metastasis (cancer spread to other organs of the body)?
We are all happy for Victor and hope he has a complete recovery, indeed, but we can't rush to conclusions without knowing more. |
