per le citazioni di Giusy a me risulta che il "Cyclopœdia di McClintock e Strong" è un testo oggi davvero raro (per non dire inutilizzato), e conosciuto in Italia principalmente perché citato talvolta nelle pubblicazioni tradotte dall'inglese dei Testimoni di Geova, che se ne servono per trovarvi supporto alle loro tesi (vedi wikipedia).
Giusy cita anche altri testi, il punto è che non puoi parlare di alterazione visto quel significato è attestato... dunque, permettimi, che alterazione sarebbe se il significato esiste e che senso avrebbe, poi, alterare questo passo? Capisci che sono accuse che fanno sorridere.
Qualsiasi dizionario biblico serio traduce Degel con bandiera o vessillo (vedi anche un dizionario qualunque ebraico/italiano it.glosbe.com/he/it/degel )
Perdonami, ma tu qui citi un dizionario di ebraico contemporaneo ma il significato qui è riferito a quello che aveva 3000 anni fa, ed è assai più varigato, basta che leggi questo sito che cita opere scientifiche e non è certo schierato, come al solito le tue repliche indicano un approccio un po' superficiale:

Hebrew degel possibly originally meant a military banner. This is supported by the Akkadian dagalu, "to look", and diglu, "sight". The meaning "banner" was later extended by association to include the army division, just as shevet and matteh, the two terms for "tribe", were probably derived from the "rod" that served as the official tribal insignia (cf. 1:45; 14:17-18). The meaning "unit" better fits the context here, as verse 3 shows, and is supported by the Targums and the Septuagint as well as by Aramaic usage as evidenced from the Persian period by an ostracon from Arad (no. 12) and the papyri from Elephantine. Verse 3 that Milgrom refers to says:
וְהַחֹנִים קֵדְמָה מִזְרָחָה, דֶּגֶל מַחֲנֵה יְהוּדָה לְצִבְאֹתָם
The JPS translates it as "Camped on the front, or east side: the standard of the division of Judah, troop by troop." But Milgrom notes that the translation should read
Rather, "camped ... the unit". The verb "camped" renders the translation of degel
more likely as "unit" than "standard"
Ora io ho già risposto, basta conoscere un po di cultura ebraica del tempo; l'accampamento degli Israeliti formava un quadrilatero in cui in mezzo stava il tabernacolo.
A ognuno dei 4 lati si mettevano 3 delle tribù accomunate da una bandiera (o vessillo).
Ogni singola tribù aveva poi le proprie insegne di riconoscimento (vedi appunto NUMERI 2:2).
La TNM non lo mette in dubbio, infatti legge degel come "divisioni", quella degli stendardi è una tradizione giudaica ma non siamo certi del significato, come mostra il testo che ti cito, dato che potrebbe indicare solo unità militari.
Direi che qui i traduttori dimostrano semmai una notevole erudizione scegliendo questo significato!
