I bought my Vauxhall Meriva 2011 (61) last week and it is in mint condition with very low milage, this suggests it has been garaged for some time.
After 2 days a red light cam on the dashboard which looked like a square and triangle with a key in the middle and an exclamation mark on the right of it.
The manual that came with the car told me it was an automatic door locking fault.
I trawled through the online forums and came across this one which suggested spraying copius amounts of wd40 around all of the mechanism.
Here is the fix.

1. Get a can of wd40 with red pipe attached so you can spray into tight areas.
2. Shake well.
3. Spray above the child lock turning switch into the hole above it. Spray for 30-40 seconds on each rear door.
4. Open and close the door around 100 times per door.
5. Get a rubber mallet and "GENTLY" tap the inside handle and around it.
6. Take off the child locks !!!
7. Spray some more - hell use the who can if you need to.
8. Open and close the door again around 100 times.
9. Leave over night.
10. The next day start the car, the light should go out and the beeping will stop.

This worked for me and for others who have contacted me on a different forum to say thanks.
It will cost you nothing but a can of wd40 and around an hour of your time to fix.
