FIGURE STUDY Lesson One 7"

Dark Entries is proud to present the debut 7″ of Figure Study, a contemporary band from New York. Figure Study is the Manhattan duo of Nathan Antolik and April Chalpara, who share writing and production duties, while April handles the vocals. They began the project in 2009, after meeting one another through the Wierd Records weekly party, where they would play their first concert soon after.

For their debut single “Lesson One” they utilized small, simple analog synthesizer set up of all vintage Roland analog synths and drum machine. Figure Study’s sound includes influences from early minimal synth music such as Kirlian Camera, Nine Circles, and The Actor.
All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each 7″ is housed in a specially designed jacket by N. Antolik and includes a postcard sized insert of all lyrics.

Ooosh! Optimo’s JD Twitch draw for some heavyweight ‘80s EBM/cold wave classics at the behest of his wife and The Vinyl Factory following on from his obscure post-punk survey [Cease & Desist].

So Low is so named after a cold-wave/EBM-oriented night that JD Twitch started up in Edinburgh around 1987, where “the audience mostly loathed what I was playing and rarely danced” according to the man himself.

Now 30 years later, and with the encouragement of his wife and friends who were too young to to hear those records at the time, he’s done us all a favour and compiled So Low’s biggest anthems in one deliciously bittersweet dance-off.

As usual with Optimo compilations, we’re introduced to a handful of new/old future favourites, none less so than Hard Corps’ camp calorie-burner Porte Bonheur or the twisted garage cold wave of Gerry & The Holograms and certainly P1/E’s rutting 49 Second Romance, whilst also reminding us the incandescent brilliance of Chris & Cosey’s gothic masterpiece Passion and Hunting Lodge’s scowling EBM workout Tribal Warning Shot, among classic zingers from Front 242, Throbbing Gristle, John ender, Eric Random, Colin Potter… - Boomkat

CITI020 Amato - Le Desordre et Le Nuit EP

Cititrax is proud to present a four song debut EP by The Hacker's new project called Amato. Influenced by early EBM, German techno and new wave, Michel Amato aka The Hacker began producing tracks under his new moniker Amato in 2014. The first one to be released, called Physique, came out in 2015 on the Cititrax Tracks Volume One EP and was a dancefloor success. On this forthcoming EP, entitled "Le Desordre et La Nuit", Amato integrates his love of the new wave to form four ebm tinged techno funk hits. Very dancefloor friendly, these tracks take pop elements reminiscent of Belgian body music and bring them to the present day. Amato shines as a producer here, as he has so many times before. Good stories always have a bit of prehistory. Good albums too, because they tell a good story. That’s why, every now and again in our standardized music world, an album appears whose history began even before the very first note arose. That is definitely true in the case of the new album from the Luxembourgian project ROME. Even the title, ‘The Hyperion Machine’, releases a whole gamut of associations. This chain stretches from Greek antiquity via the poet Friedrich Hölderlin, dramatist Heiner Müller and right up to Einstürzende Neubauten. That’s quite a curve! And then a bell strikes. The music begins to run its course. What begins here is more than just the regular statement from some musician; irrespective of genre. It’s something holistic, which between eternity and the blink of an eye, between whispering and screaming, reveals its diverse facets with each passing second. In its narrative force, ‘The Hyperion Machine’ functions like a radio play or audio book. And yet, the music stands up on its own. Nonetheless, whenever the listener poses the question of meaning, a whole new world appears before him. There are no packaging inserts or listening instructions for the songs. You can let them work their magic on you without having to expend any great deal of thought, but if you are the pondering and wondering kind, there is are an awful lot of thoughts you could give way to. ‘The Hyperion Machine’ poses a whole lot of questions which in turn lead to further questions. Today’s knowledge could well be obsolete tomorrow. Simple answers are only for populists and demagogues. The subtle power with which Reuter tells us his stories overrides all epochs and categories. There is nothing that isn’t permitted in this music: Rock, jazz, classical and spoken word elements come together to tell a story in 3D, which does not only build up in front of your ears, but integrates the listener. The literary and philosophical subjects are just as diverse as the musical influences. The album features songs in the vein of ROME’s trademark blends of Dark Folk (‘The Secret Germany’, ‘Celine in Jerusalem’) and Post Industrial Wave (‘Transference’, ‘Skirmishes for Diotima’). Moreover, Scandinavian fans will be delighted to find that the album also features a duet (‘Stillwell’) with legendary Swedish singer and friend Thåström. In many ways, ‘The Hyperion Machine’ is a completely normal music album, and yet it is so much more than that. A cornucopia of concrete and notional interpretations forms a great, sensual commentary on the origins of the present, over and above the here and now.

Another Fall From Grace was produced by Wayne Hussey and Tim Palmer, who already produced the band’s 1986 debut album ‘God’s own Medicine’ and 1990’s ‘Carved in Sand’. The album features guest backing vocals from Gary Numan, Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Ville Valo (HIM), Julianne Regan (All About Eve) & Evi Vine. Wayne Hussey in his own words: “For me, this new Mission album is the long lost missing link between The Sisters Of Mercy’s First & Last & Always and The Mission’s God’s Own Medicine, both albums of course that I was heavily involved in making. I set out this time with the intention of making an album that sounds like 1985. The fact that I feel this has largely been achieved is down to my renewed love for the jingle jangle shimmer of the electric 12 string guitar which featured heavily on those two previously mentioned albums and now the new Mission album. This is a dark album although I didn’t set out with that intention, it’s just the way things unfolded. I know I did go a little crazy and even a little paranoid during the recording of this album, certainly my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing all suffered during the course of it. And I think that has informed both the music and the lyrics. So much of this was done in isolation - from the world, from my family, from my friends, and even from my band mates. I can’t say it’s an album I enjoyed making but it is an album I needed to make. It is with huge relief that I can now say it is finished and maybe it’s like an acute pain that you have that once it’s gone you can’t remember how it felt. I hope so as I would like one day to feel the fondness for this record that it maybe deserves.”

Kælan Mikla is a 3-piece punk/no-wave band from Reykjavík slowly getting darker and deeper with new waves and more instruments. The band consists of 3 girls who perform their own poetry and have been described as an avant-garde, fresh breeze into the Icelandic music scene in the past 2 years. The band was formed after winning 1st place in a poetry slam held by the city library in january 2013. They have since then played multiple festivals as well as touring Europe. Kælan Mikla are known for their dark melancholic sound, most of the songs consisting only of heavy bass, drums and screams with some softer, melodic synth parts in-between. The band lyrics focus on inner confusion and their intimidating stage performance, often including performance art of some sort, is bound to leave the crowd in a melancholic trance. 'This trio has moved from being a post-punk outfit of bass, drums and vocals into bold new territory. Chilling, neurotic synth loops paired with ass-end bass and some positively haunting vocals, their sound has evolved into something darker, stronger, capable of taking us from the everyday world into the gauzy barrier between us and our nightmares. Like watching a forgotten reel of film shot at a haunted house, you come away from seeing them live wondering if it's really over, as you can still feel icy fingers reaching towards you. 30 years ago the Bohémien recorded the tape 'Sangue E Arena', making their debut on the Italian rock scene and quickly earned a place of respect in the goth scene with their original formula of a Mediterranean new-wave sung in Italian. Thanks to that tape, the Bohémien performed on stages such as the Piper in Rome, the Stadio Flaminio, the QBO of Bologna and the Palasport of Arezzo, where they were invited to attend the 1st edition of Arezzo Wave. Everything went very quickly, in just a little over a year, a time too short to arrive at the longed-for goal of the vinyl. Then a period of silence, only to reappear in 2002, with a reunion or perhaps a rebirth, which saw them among the leaders of the revival of the dark / gothic scene in Italy and around the world. This time the recordings had official seals, although on CD (which by then had replaced the beloved vinyl of their youth), with the publication of 'Danze Pagane' (2003), 'La Parata Del Circo' (2005) and the recent 'Bohémien' (2013). Over the years they have performed in a number of live gigs in Italy, Europe and the USA; one of their most recent appearances saw them opening the concert of Peter Murphy at the Orion in Ciampino (RM) in 2013, following the release of their latest, self titled CD in that year. 30 years after the debut the time has come at last for them to issue their 1st vinyl LP: on October 31 2015, for the label Insomnia Art, the Bohémien will publish 'Nella Gloria', on vinyl LP to preserve the analog sound of the tracks of the years 1985-86. The album contains 8 songs of this period, 4 per side, as in the best traditions of old vinyls. These are the original recordings of the new songs "Nella Gloria" and "I Nostri Cuori", never before published officially, and the 6 tracks on the tape debut. All tracks have been remastered and cleaned up. The cover of LP features the original photographs of the band of those years and contains an insert with the lyrics of the songs in Italian. “Bureau B present Filmmusik 1, a selection from Conrad Schnitzlers archive. In Conrad Schnitzlers sprawling archive, there are two tapes marked Filmmusik 1975 A and Filmmusik 1980 B. It is hard to say which videos this music belongs to, particularly as the pieces have been left untitled. Perhaps there isnt really any film material at all. The dates are of no great help either, since the tapes feature the same tracks, albeit in varying degrees of quality. Filmmusik 1 presents an initial selection of these finds, presented to Bureau B by Schnitzlers musical partner for many years and guardian of the archive, Wolfgang Seidel(Populäre Mechanik, Ton Steine Scherben). The tracks reveal much about how Schnitzler worked. He recorded individual tracks on cassettes and then combined them, also using them live in his so-called cassette concerts. Thus, there are recognizable recurring "melodies", sometimes fragmented, in different places. Some tracks have the same bass loop and rhythm, only the sounds and effects have changed. The music on theFilmmusik tapes is extraordinarily accessible for Schnitzler: hypnotic bass lines, stoic drum rhythms, dark drones, crystalline shards of melody.
