DIE ORANGEN Zwei Orangen 2LP
Die Orangen is back on the adventurous Malka Tuti with their sophomore album, Zwei Orangen. It's been two years since their debut album Zest animated the underground scene, merging obscure samples, field recordings, krautrock motifs, and a spattering of humor and self-perception into their newly forged genre: krautback. The Australian duo -- Kris Baha and Dreems -- return with two more years of wisdom tucked under their hats to deliver a matured, developed sound. The industrial sonics and propensity for a dusty bush-beaten tone remain, however the samples and ambience take a backseat, handing the map over to the guitar riffs, vocals, and song writing to navigate the albums vast terrain. Collaborators Jono Ma (of Jagwar Ma), Alex Akers (of Forces), and Hayley Morgan expand the album into a diverse journey across zones and styles, offering their own observation of the spacious musical world of Die Orangen. These 11 tracks will make you contemplate, they'll will make you reminisce, they'll give you friendly advice, they'll ask you to dance, and they'll question the direction of your compass... Fear not, however, this is music for everybody. As the Oranges say "Saft für alle".

GOLDEN FILTER, THE Autonomy Variations 12"
Fresh from the release of their third album Autonomy (4GN3S 002LP) in the summer of 2019, comes Autonomy Variations: four brand new perspectives from four exciting, innovative kindred spirits of the avant-pop duo. South London's Medlar breaks the seal. Following a series of incredible live collaborations with Dele Sosimi (Fela Kuti), he's has turned "Autonomy" into a minimal, percolating house track. Swapping the acid spikes for analog bleeps, Medlar's signature can be felt every step through this vivid energetic stomper. Fabric resident Anna Wall follows with another beautiful subversion as "New Politik" is given a smoldering take. Moody, intimate, downtempo; there's some serious late night HTRK-esque vibes to Anna's twist. Further into the remix trip you glide to find Dischi Autunno, Ombra International affiliate Curses pulling "Electric Light" into the fringes. Taking the upbeat, crystalline pop of Penelope and Stephen's original and flipping it into a stark postpunk Bauhaus-inspired take, Curses' live bass and driving new wave beat shine a whole new light on the original and write it a whole new chapter. Finally, brand new act, Isolating have the honor of closing the EP with industrial modular apocalyptic take on "Infinity". A vast playground of contrasts, at points it's dirty and pounding. At others it's quiet and menacing. File under: Dystopian Techno. Four extensions on one of the most interesting electronic albums released this year. DJ Mag stated it's The Golden Filter's best work yet while Clash called a it a bruising return. These remixes follow with complete forward-thinking consistency.

BITING TONGUES Live It LP
From the same studio that brought us 48 Chairs (Gerry & The Holograms), The Fall, and The Blue Orchids, while following the bona-fide bloodline between Danny And The Dressmakers, Toolshed, and 808 State, the "difficult second album" by Biting Tongues (released on a minuscule cassette run by The Buzzcocks' vanity label) has since become a near mythical artifact of Mancunian DIY. Cementing the path between the Absurd label's kitchen sink synth assaults and Factory's 99 informed downtown aspirations, Biting Tongues' bass-driven, pounding-sounding, schizo-skronking, squat-pop put the emergence of punk-funk under a blinding interrogation bulb then hid 'round the corner evading secret police. Pouring three letter words like "ESG", "DAF", "PIL", and "ACR" into Ken Hollings Scrabble bag would result in a unique form of wordy dictaphone agit-rap and closed-circuit commentary to Graham Massey's overqualified punk ensemble, laying foundations of future Manc activity using uncertified sand and gravel tactics, only to be safety checked every 38 years, or thereabout. Live It, the lost Biting Tongues album, still breathes. Including what the original members of this pioneering post-punk platoon unanimously consider their greatest work, Biting Tongues seldom-heard, second roll of the dice was presented to The Buzzcock's own label New Hormones to coincide with full-length DIY debuts by Ludus, Dislocation Dance, and a distinct tightening of purse strings. Recorded on half-price studio time (in the midst of a multi-track repair session) and duped on to compact cassettes to keep pressing costs down, the album Live It even entirely bypassed the non-existent art-department before landing in the hands of a small readership of peculiar-punk die-hards, instantly slipping into obscurity, evading official band future discographies, and reaching an imaginary status in the history of unchartered Manc-manufactured messthetics. Now available, on vinyl, with two sleeve variations and extensive notes from Graham Massey and Ken Hollings, Live It is a welcome misplaced release and an essential addition to Finders Keepers' Cache Cache catalog. Biting Tongues make wise heads!

MILLER & STEVE SHILL, GRAEME Woodland Band (Parade) 7"
Graeme Miller and Steve Shill's Woodland Band (Parade) consists of homemade electronic and mechanical music heard exclusively via British TV speakers as an eerie backdrop for the Polish-made stop-motion adaptation of the Finnish comic strip. Custom-composed for radically reedited daily five-minute episodes (alongside reconstituted storylines and the narrations/impersonations of comedy actor Richard Murdoch), the short cues written and played by the two Leeds-based post-punk avant-theater composers helped exacerbate the program's bizarre spectral storylines and characters, earning a firm fixture of fear, intrigue and infatuation in the hearts and memories of a slightly confused electro-fed generation. Ticking all the boxes that attract freak-folk enthusiasts and "synthusiasts" alike, the combined efforts of Shill and Miller deployed thumb pianos, backwards tape effects, wooden pipes, and a Wasp synthesizer (the almost-affordable post-punk synth of choice) to replace the original '70s German jazz soundtrack, thus dramatically mutating the tonality of the hundred episode-long saga. Miller and Shill's unique DIY approach follows characters like Moomintroll, Sniff, Snuffkin and the Snork Maiden as they encounter hobgoblins, sand lions, and the mysterious Groke, complete with their individual detuned electronic voices and theremin-esque whimpers. Based on the original sprites invented by Tove Jansson, the modified fuzzy felt figurines were designed by animator Lucjan Debinski at the legendary Se Ma For studios in Poland for German syndication resulting in what many regard as the definitive and most enigmatic version of the story, succeeding further animated adaptations form Japan and Russia. Sharing the same nostalgia and oblique exoticism as The Singing Ringing Tree, The Little Mole, The Magic Roundabout, and other reconstituted imports seen on programs like Granada TV's Picturebox, The Moomins and its synonymous theme tune and sound effects render this limited 7" vinyl release an essential addition to the record shelves of soundtrack collectors, domestic electronic fans and absent bygone tele-addicts as well as animation and design enthusiasts on account of its unique imagery and packaging. Includes an extended take of "Woodland Band" and a never-before-heard cue from the forthcoming Lost Tapes. Like the running lengths of the original episodes, these rare specimens won't stick around for long -- act fast, relax, regress, and rejoice for the return of the Moomin trolls. Custom-made felt backed 7" sleeve depicting original production stills.

NINE CIRCLES Early Days 2LP
Early Days maps out Nine Circles interpretation of cold wave and minimal synth. Unbelievably the tracks are mostly from a brief time period, '80-82. Alienation and uncertainty course through the double-LP, with heavy Yamaha chords, metallic machine beats, and brittle vocals. Nine Circles was formed in the early '80s by Peter van Garderen and Lidia Fiala. In 1980, there was band called Genetic Factor. This band split up when the three members got girlfriends and they started to make music together with their girls. So, at that time there were three bands living together in one house. One of the couples were Peter van Garderen and Lidia Fiala. Lidia had been writing lyrics since she was 15 years old. Nine Circles was born. Within two years they wrote about 60 songs. Also living in the house was Richard Zeilstra, who had a job at the VPRO radio, hosting a show called "Spleen" where he gave new wave bands a chance to play. He asked bands to send tapes to him and the best band would have the opportunity to play live at the radio and also got the chance to be on the Radio Nome compilation (1982). Peter and Lidia sent their tape to him and were the only ones of this house to be on the show. Richard knew their music was special. Nine Circles never played a live show, only this one concert live at the radio which is also featured on the LP. Two years later Peter and Lidia split up and Nine Circles subsequently disappeared. In 2009, Lidia's son googled her name just for fun and found a lot about the band Nine Circles. Lidia was surprised, she never knew how popular Nine Circles have been over the years. She got herself on Facebook and since then she got in touch with many people and decided Nine Circles should come back! Peter was not able to join the band these days, he has a different life and he is happy but he is supporting Lidia and likes that she enjoyed doing music again. Peter still had all the old recordings and sent Lidia a lot of the music they made back in the days. The best tracks are collected on this double-LP. Together with Per-Anders Kurenbach, Lidia continues Nine Circles. Together with Per-Anders Kurenbach, Lidia revived Nine Circles. They recorded new material (released on the album Alice) and played live until Lidia had to stop playing live for health reasons in 2016. Nevertheless, they're working on a follow-up album called Emerge which is planned to be released in 2020 and hopefully Lidia will be able to go on stage again soon.

COMATEENS 1980-1985 3LP
In the fall of 1978, after working with a series of bands, New York-based musician and composer Nick West became interested in experimenting with minimalism, collaborating with guitarist and songwriter Ramona Jan and Lyn Byrd. They decided to play pure pop but to substitute a primitive electronic beatbox for a human drummer. The result was Comateens, becoming one of the first groups to discard the traditional sounds and line-ups used by everyone else in New York City's downtown music scene of the late 1970s. In 1980, Nick's brother Oliver joined them as guitarist, and after going on to release three major label albums -- Comateens (1981), Pictures On A String (1983), and Deal With It (1984) -- and with some successful tours and dance-club hits behind them, the band split up following the terribly untimely death of Oliver in June 1987. However, in 1988, Virgin Records issued another LP entitled West & Byrd, recorded by Nick and Lyn as a duo, and in 1991 released a retrospective compilation called One By One: Best Of Comateens, now a rare and much sought-after record among collectors of new wave music. Acclaimed by Etienne Daho, the band has made a name for itself with the singles "Late Night City", "Get Off My Case", and "Don't Come Back". 1980-1985 collects the band's three major label albums. Triple-LP comes in gatefold sleeve; includes eight-page booklet, printed inner sleeves, and download code.

POP. 1280 Way Station LP
LP version. New York industrial punk band Pop. 1280 return with the album Way Station. The album's genesis took them back to when they were putting the finishing touches on their third LP, Paradise (Sacred Bones, 2016). Returning to New York, hungry to write new songs, the band decided to rethink their musical model. Their weekly band practice nights became sampling sessions, the exploration of new and disorienting sounds that they could adapt to their new confinement. The simplicity of the duo led to an aesthetic of minimalism, and they could figure out how to perform the songs live later. Now was about expunging their systems of the creative virus. The door began to creak open when Matthew Hord (Running) moved to New York in 2018 and the band discovered he knew more about analog synth hardware than anyone they'd worked with before in Pop.1280. Lyrically, Pop. 1280 plumbed the deepest depths of their inner selves and also allowed themselves to translate those painful and fearful themes to new extremes of purpose.

TWIN TRIBES "Ceremony"
The Texan Dark Wave duo is back with a new album "Ceremony" after their acclaimed debut album "Shadows".
Always inspired by a nostalgic Dark Wave, a touch of melancholic Goth Rock, still references to the supernatural but more oriented to death, love and life themed songs, a dark and cold atmosphere without being overwhelming.

She Pleasures HerselfDRAMA OF THE SPHERES "Hidden States"
New album from the Batcave Industrial french legend.
With "Hidden States" JeromAD continues his journey in a dark, passionate and melancholic rock from which assaults of anger and despair emerge. The structures of these 10 songs are still rich and complex, highly melodic and catchy, alternating a nervous industrial metal with electronic sequences where a female voice creeps in. Trying to reach all the "Hidden States" of human nature, or what remains of it.

YOUKOUNKOUN Special Delivery Vol. 6 LP
Edit Service present its sixth release, this time featuring Youkounkoun, a duo comprising of Jeff Lasson, of Get A Room!, and Gaėtan Rossi. After releasing on Multi Culti edits and Edits du Plaisir, the duo delivers a mini-LP with a diverse range of tempos and moods, from dancefloor-friendly cuts to weirder tracks with Gallic oddities, Dutch new wave, Spanish minimal wave, and experimental Iranian music used as the source material. The unsettling post-punk, industrial, and mutant kraut energy in those tracks could not be further removed from lazy run-of-the-mill disco edits. In true digger spirit, Youkounkoun picks tracks never edited before and painstakingly re-arranges them by adding a lot of additional production to completely transform these tracks for the dancefloor.

CHAIN CULT Shallow Grave LP
Athen's Chain Cult return with their first full length following a great Demo (MUS 169LP) and 7" (MUS 175EP) from 2018. Shallow Grave shows the progression of a band who have played non-stop for two years, covering pretty much all of Europe. Chain Cult's post punk is anthemic, militant and idealistic, putting music to a very dark and bleak time and place. You can hear echoes of early The Cure, The Sound, Second Empire Justice-era Blitz, or Wipers in their music but also the passion and conviction of locals Metro Decay, Stress, or Anti... Very much a perfect reflection of what springs to mind thinking about the current Athens scene.

BJARGO, PETER Structures And Downfall LP
"After putting ARCANA to rest in the past year, Peter Bjärgö has now channeled his creative energy towards his solo works. On what is now his fourth full length solo album, we are granted a calm, thoughtful and at times somber aural voyage. Melodic atmospheric guitar work, lush string arrangements and slow, heavy percussive rhythms are present and elevated to new heights. Written and recorded while beholding a wintry landscape in his newly built studio 'Asham Room', he's created a perfect balance of complex structures through his distinctive sorrowful, yet hopeful songwriting."

EYE Metamujer LP
EYE is back. Metamujer marks the third installment on the Knekelhuis label and the label to release this document of another chapter in Laurène Exposito's life. Recorded on various locations ranging from the Swiss mountains to the chalky coasts of Brittany, Metamujer is an eight-track ode to salty love and closeness to nature, a tribute to a modest lifestyle à la Henry David Thoreau. Far from being praise for self-sufficiency, this new LP is deeply influenced by Laurène's environment. You hear Korg MS-10 created synthetic waves ("Sanatorium") and birds ("Luscinia"), but one can also catch her singing in Italian, one of three languages spoken in Switzerland. Still minimalist and yet more aesthetically diverse, her new sounds are on the edge of EBM and synth pop, between classic minimal wave tunes, and rustic ballads on acid.

DOUBLE ECHO - "Burning In Blue" [ICR030]
[Post-Punk - Darkwave - Dream-pop. UK]
Available on Digital & CD DIGIPACK
Listen & Buy the Album

"Burning In Blue" is the fourth album of the Liverpool trio, and comes two years after the previous "Period Rooms". The new album offers us nine darkwave tracks with mostly ethereal and introspective tones, as if the setting was that of a Victorian house haunted by ghosts, and in this sense the cover image evokes these feelings, keeping in line with the atmosphere of the previous album, with respect to which I find a greater cohesion, for a songwriting and production certainly superior.

It starts with the instrumental "Screen II", followed by "Some Essential Thing", a song in which Ellon's voice and the delicate guitar arpeggios remind me of certain things of Mephisto Waltz; the same feelings are evoked by "Felix & Tantrum", where Ellon's voice gives the best of its potential.
A marked bassline and a warm male voice characterize "Automatic Doors".
"The Position" is the potential hit of the album, and not by chance it was chosen to anticipate the album; a track with strong echoes of Clan Of Xymox, where guitar, bassline and synth trace the coordinates of a perfect example of "gothic" sound. The atmospheres become soft again in "The Watch" and at the beginning they're soft again in "The Landing", but then they evolve towards an acceleration that characterizes the second half of the album.

He closes the title-track, reiterating the introspective tone of the album; a record far from the more post-punk/gothic-rock atmospheres of the debut album "Phantomime"; the evolution of Double Echo's sound has been constant (touching its apex, at least as far as I'm concerned, with the album "La Danza" and the Ep "Ancient Youth") and now arrives at a record far away from the club atmospheres, to be enjoyed in the darkness of one's own room.
Rating: 7,5/10"

BLEAKNESS - "Fonctionally Instinct" [ICR032]
[Dark-Punk - Post-Punk - Hardcore Punk. FR]
Available on Digital & CD DIGIPACK
Listen & Buy the Album
Co-Production with Sabotage Records, Destructure Records

"Bleakness started in Nantes (west of France) in early 2016. The band is made up of longtime activists of the French and U.K. DIY punk/alternative scene. The band formed out of a need to express feelings of unease that resulted from witnessing the frustration and desperation spawned out of an oppressive system.

In the beginning, they created fast and tensed hardcore punk songs infused with melancholic melodies. After a handful of local shows, Bleakness quickly embarked on their first European tour. During the two following years, between releasing EPs and constantly playing shows and tours in France and abroad, the trio kept busy working on new songs, each new song giving more space for post pun- influenced melodies to evolve.

Late in 2018, after relocating to Lyon, Bleakness solidified their lineup with the arrival of a new drummer, and finalized the writing of their first full length. Functionally Extinct is set to be released late 2019 on Sabotage records in Germany, Destructure records in France (vinyl), and Icy Cold records (CD). The sound is a perfect combination of the sadness of early 80s post-punk and the anger of modern French, hardcore punk."

Riki is the Los Angeles based synth-pop outfit commandeered by the mysterious Niff Nawor, a visual artist and musician active in the deathrock / anarcho-punk scenes of the California bay area (formerly a member of Crimson Scarlet), before founding her solo endeavor as Riki in 2017. Niff’s desire to explore her own sound manifested in the recording of the Hot City cassette tape in 2017, which featured Chelsey Crowley of Crimson Scarlet, Skot Brown of Phantom Limbs and Peđa of Doomed to Extinction. Released on Commodity Tapes and later reissued on vinyl by the well-regarded Symphony of Destruction label, Riki followed the release of the single with several small tours and festival dates, performing with such acts as Light Asylum, Black Marble, and Trisomie 21.

For her self-titled debut album for Dais, Riki explores courage, physicality, and romance across eight timeless synth pop anthems. Produced and engineered by hardware-based synthesist Matia Simovich of INHALT, influences and ideas are worn proudly without deviating from fresh and daring electro-pop territory. Nostalgic cues can be heard ranging from Neue Deutsch Welle, early Adrian Sherwood productions, classic ZYX Italo Disco, Japanese Visual Kei and even classic new wave/pop like Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, and early Madonna.

The lead single, Napoleon, contains Riki’s indelible sound design, reminiscent of 80’s New York dance floor electro-pop that recalls the fusion of uptown and downtown styles and culture, told through Riki’s present day West Coast narrative.

Riki invites listeners to “reveal their useless habits of complacency and fear...and witness their own rebirth, a rhythm universal”

Album comes with a foldout RIKI poster, printed inner euro sleeves with lyrics, and download card. Package design by Niff Nawor, photography by Nedda Afsari.

TALK TO HER - "LOVE WILL COME AGAIN" [ICR034]
[Electro-Rock - New Wave - Post-Punk. IT]
Available on Digital - CD DIGIPACK & VINYL/LP
Listen & Buy the Album
Co-production Shyrec

"Talk To Her are an electro-wave-rock band from Italy with a dark, incisive and powerful sound attitude, playing together since late 2015. After a year dedicated to writing songs, they started playing in the most famous clubs and summer festivals in northern and center of Italy. In 2018 they published HOME under the label Shyrec with excellent feedback from the public, magazines and webzines, in Italy and in Europe. HOME is an EP of 4 tracks, anticipated by the video of the single "Zodiac". The HOME experience culminates in 2019 with the participation at Monitor Festival (Minimal Wave & Post Punk Rendez Vous) in Leiria, Portugal. Talk To Her are currently working on Love Will Come Again, their first full length album, due for release in February 2020.

Love Will Come Again is Talk To Her’s debut album, their second production after the EP HOME (2018). It’s an album about love as an overwhelming power, a mystical experience of life that might be even the hardest: ten tracks, a decalogue describing it as the supreme law which controls and regulates everything.

It reminds us firstly of the fragility of innocence (Innocence), telling us how suspicion in a relationship can be hard to handle (Truth), as well as with the feeling of pain and grief (Ibisco).
Then it investigates how it feels to get lost still waiting in deathly silence (Hollow) or trying to fill the void of those who are missing (The Caller).
In the end this journey is sealed with a confession (Confessions), a dialogue with our inner ghost, when losing yourself is the way to find your mind again.

LWCA is the investigation of love as a mass phenomenon transformed in a routine of meaningless images by a poetical practice.
LWCA is the dramatic story of the eternal fight between a fragile human being and a society that doesn’t live love because love dominates it.
LWCA is a suffered warning.
LWCA is a loud shout.
LWCA is a violent rebellion.
Love has always had its absolute, strict, seducing rules.
Its dictatorship has been coming back since ever.
It will come back forever."

"JE T'AIME - the new addictive scream of modern post-punk - is back. Almost a year after putting out its astonishing debut LP, the French galvanizing outfit is releasing today a new remix EP titled en négatif - REMIXES, as a celebration to Valentine's Day. For those who don't know, JE T'AIME has been growing like fire between de underground European musical scenario since the release of Je T'Aime (2019, Icy Cold Records/Manic Depression), an album that is raw, dirty, controversial, but highly addictive and incredible, just like love.

en négatif - REMIXES contains a total of five tracks signed by four contemporary names in the darkwave scene: She Pleasures HerSelf, Ash Code, Zus and Ambassador 21. In the album you can find new interpretations for tracks such as "The Sound", "Dance" and "Hide & Seek". To celebrate the release of this new EP, JE T'AIME is also premiering today a new version for the original "The Sound" music video, in which both theme and video are remixed by She Pleasures HerSelf."

TISIPHONE - "KOMA FORTE" [ICR025]
[Cold-Rock - Tribal-Mystic - Post-Punk. FR]
Available on Digital & VINYL/LP 12"
Listen & Buy the Album
Co-production Automate Records + Acid Folik Records

"Four years after the release of the debut album, the French Tisiphone are back, this time, for an absolutely changeable adrenaline injection that will follow the short-duration format. The new EP, entitled KOMA FORTE, hits the shelves and consists of a total of six themes in an approximate duration of half an hour. From the new EP - which received additional details this week - the track "Atomic Tissue" had previously been released, which can be heard below with audiovisual work.

KOMA FORTE follows the trio's first career LP, TISIPHONE and presents a very eclectic sound without being attached to a single conception. From entertainment theater to widely sentimental sounds, the new EP by Tisiphone promises to make a stir in 2020. In addition to "Atomic Tissue", the French have presented in live performances the theme "Heureux Je Suis" which will also integrate the alignment of the new work."

BLEAKNESS - "Fonctionally Extinct" [ICR032]
[Dark-Punk - Post-Punk - Hardcore Punk. FR]
Available on Digital & CD DIGIPACK & VINYL/LP
Listen & Buy the Album
Co-Production with Destructure Records + Sabotage Records

Functionnally Extinct ? Ou plutôt Fervidly distinct!"
Score: 8/10
Élodie DENIS de NEW NOISE MAGAZINE (FR)

PARKING DANCE - "What More?" [ICR022]
[Post-Punk - Grunge. FR]
Available on Digital & VINYL/LP 12"
Listen & Buy the Album

"PARKING DANCE, Matthieu Bonnécuelle's solo project born in 2017, debuts at the French house Icy Cold Records with WHAT MORE?, the first official career LP to hit the shelves a year after BORDEL (2018). Matthieu Bonnécuelle has got us used from the beginning to its frenetic rhythms painted in post-punk and with textures mirrored on every corner. A typically colorful sound with monochromatic rhythmic structures and traces of the psych-rock that arrives in late 2019 to put PARKING DANCE on the radar of upcoming projects in the dark underground scene.
This new WHAT MORE? had previously been released the dream pop-rock of "A34BYE". In addition to the alignment of this new LP, "WANNABE" and "LUVBOY" (from the album GOOD BOY), "REJECTED", "TINY MOONS" and "OUR RIGHT" (from BORDEL), "SURPRISE" (from TA RACE) and "OVERNOON" (from the album FOCK) are also part of it."
[full review] by Threshold Magazine

Co-Production with Swiss Dark Nights

"The first album of this band from Rome is a must for those who love relaxing on the couch in the evening and listening to beautiful music, dreaming with open eyes (or slightly open). If you mention “shoegaze” and “dream-pop”, you immediately wonder: Will it be the same old story of sounds and celestial voices, which recall the Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil and other bands belonging to the 4AD’s projects? Even if the answer is partially affirmative, the 3+Dead demonstrates to be able to add something fascinating and unusual to its proposal […] Another great debut to add to our next listening list.
Vote: 8/10"
[full review] in Italian by Ascension Magazine

"Rome, Italy 2017. 3+Dead sees the light of day and offers us a debut that warms a winter’s heart with honest mixture between dark wave, postpunk and shoegaze. The voice of Elisa does make a comparison with a cult act as Cocteau Twins is relevant, although 3+ Dead is far from being a copy. The postpunk shifts from dreamy melancholy to dancable and even darker pieces. That’s where the label dark wave comes in, but each single song breaths quality and intensity. Grab this album, it is a hell of a debut!"

FRUSTRATION So Cold Streams CD
During the 1990s, wherever you lived in France, there was a handful of bands you could see five or ten times a year. In the most remote and rural places of the country, they inspired tons of kids to start their own band or fanzine, to go for something different. It was more than just music. It was a spirit, an idea. And in the last ten years, in France, no one encapsulated them better than Frustration. Somewhere in most remote and rural places of the country, some kids still need to look at the world with a different perspective. But still, no one was expecting a record such as So Cold Streams. At this stage, Frustration could have easily played it safe releasing a record basically identical to the previous one, intense, abrasive, honest but with no risk. They could have continued to fill the venues with no complaints. But right from the very first seconds of "Insane", a humungous electro-punk monster that wouldn't have been out of place on a 1988 EBM EP, you realize that things aren't gonna go as planned. Instead of setting up a comfortable routine, Frustration recorded its fifth album as if it were the first, like a bunch of guys who've been playing together for six months, who have nothing to lose and a ferocious will to bite. Of course, the post-punk shenanigans are still there (martial drums, elastic bass, hit-and-run guitars), but So Cold Streams is full of a brand-new energy, raucous lyrics, and full-on audacity. Listen to "Brume", an industrial nightmare with lyrics screamed in French. Or the poppy and intimate "Lil' White Sister" which sounds surprisingly like the Smiths or Echo & The Bunnymen. Or the insane "Slave Markets" on which the band invited Jason Williamson, half of Sleaford Mods -- a band that was pivotal in Frustration's new found youth. "Sleaford Mods is a band that, musically and humanly, gave us a real boost," explains Fabrice Gilbert (vocals). "They gave us a real sense of freedom, it allowed me to really say everything I wanted to say in my lyrics, to talk about extremely intimate subjects as well as much more general things, whether it be political or social."

BOTTIN I Have What I Gave LP
LP version. 2017 release. On I Have What I Gave, Italian musician Bottin outdoes himself. He crafts propulsive, disco-laden scores for films not yet made, and introspective, mind-expanding cuts designed to ensure that people who want to dance never get caught up in conventional experiences. There's the hypnotic, pop-disco cut "Y-A-M-L" featuring past collaborator Lavinia Claws on vocals. It existed in parts for a decade before coming together during the sessions for this album. It's an energetic and transcendent affair. "L'Amore" has a foundation that recalls the cascading minimalism of Steve Reich and the cinematic work of the likes of Howard Shore. By the time the beat comes in, it's pretty clear this is no mere exercise in routine nu-disco. Another cut that proves Bottin should be scoring films is "Varosha" with its dark, arena-sized John Carpenter vibes that traffic in dystopia to balance out the bubbling optimism of "L'Amore". The record's quest extends back in time on "Perfect Mind", featuring words from the ancient Greek prayer, "The Thunder, Perfect Mind" found amid the famous Nag Hammadi texts in Egypt in 1945. Over a pulsating, acidy backdrop the words are delivered through various vocal synthesis engines, evoking a cold, artificially intelligent singularity discussing the most human of matters. All throughout an album filled with intricate and nuanced arrangements, Bottin doesn't forget to keep people moving. There's "Stellar Parade" another in a line of great collaborations with legendary Italian electronic musician Alexander Robotnick. There's also "Twenty-Three" an organic-sounding arp bath that perfectly channels the tension that builds over the course of a night. Bottin's work as one-half of experimental synth outfit Deardrums rubs off on "Microdisco" which is fat with pulsating analogue synths and resonant beat experimentations. One thing that sets I Have What I Gave apart from his pioneering horror disco and much-loved Punica Fides LPs is that this time around Bottin didn't see to it to create a concept-album structure. Everything came at once during the writing and recording process, which no doubt gives the album its intensity and sense of immediacy.

PLEASURE PRINCIPLE Pleasure Principle CD
Paul Speedy Ramon on the record: "... Even though I was and still am extremely involved in my past and present bands (Skategang, La Secte du Futur, Marietta to a lesser extent), the music we were making was only partially representative of me. I've always listened to a lot of reggae, dancehall, music from Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, and overall music that is based more on repetition and intention than composition . . . In 2015 my brother and friend Benjamin Dupont, the human behind Bryan's Magic Tears, moved into my flat share, Noah's Ark at 35 rue Clignancourt, in the 18th arrondissement, and it was him who unlocked everything by showing me how to record music by myself . . . Recording a lot, without any constraints of format, group or expectations, by letting myself be totally carried away by what was coming out in the moment, it allowed me to give myself a certain insight into myself . . . I would say that it oscillates, for the music, between synthetic krautrock, dancehall lo-fi, Manchester sound recorded with toys, rock à la Velvet and Memphis rap for children; and between Les Négresses Vertes and Julien Gracq for the texts . . . My friend Paula from J.C. Satan and Succhiamo, who sings on 'Mariposa' and 'Venera 16', because I had no idea what to do about it; I sent her the songs and she sang on her phone, it was great so we recorded it. This first album is a kind of best-of from 2015 to 2018, the songs that held up best, the ones I had lyrics on, the best finished drafts, basically. I owe its existence to my friends at the Megattera micro-label who, after hearing my songs at home at night, decided to release them confidentially on tape first; without them, they would still be on my hard drive. Under the spell, Born Bad Records then entrusted Olivier Demeaux (Cheveu, Heimat) with the mission of mixing the 'best' tracks to give them the luster they deserve and make these few crazy and scattered tracks a full-fledged album. I asked Adam Karakos from Villejuif Underground, Guillaume Rottier from Rendez-Vous, Nikolaj Boursniev from Quetzal Snakes, and Milia Colombani who plays in half the bands in Paris, to play live with me. Pleasure Principle is located somewhere within a triangle formed by Francis Bebey, Add (n) To X, and Ludwig Von 88..."

OISEAUX-TEMPETE Tlamess (Sortilege) LP
LP version. Orange vinyl; includes poster. Tlamess (Sortilège) is Oiseaux-Tempête's first original soundtrack composed for the second feature film by critically-acclaimed Tunisian director Ala Eddine Slim (Festival de Cannes' 51st Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, BFI London, ADF Argentina, Geneva GIFF, Rome Medfilm Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival). Combining hypnotic feedbacks and synthesizer orchestral work, drifting ambient with shamanic beats, the Tlamess (Sortilège) original soundtrack was entirely improvised while watching the movie's rushes. On those sessions that took place between Mikrokosm recording studios in Lyon and Magnum Diva home studio in Paris, you find Oiseaux-Tempête's quartet core team: Frédéric D. Oberland, Stéphane Pigneul, Mondkopf, and Jean-Michel Pirès (Bruit Noir). Fully instrumental, including extended versions, and unreleased tracks, this immersive film score is also their most electronic album to date. "S, a young Tunisian soldier, has been told that his mother has died, and is given a week's leave. Instead of returning to his military base, he starts to drift and locking himself away in his parents' house. This passive form of desertion culminates in a manhunt through the outskirts of the city. In the second part of this hypnotic diptych, a young woman, F, is also fleeing an oppressive situation. Married to a rich man and pining away in a luxury solitude she decides to flee the golden cage and disappears into the nearby woods. Eventually the two characters will meet inside the strange forest." In his second feature, director Ala Eddine Slim presents an intriguing juxtaposition of raw realism with a hypnotic allegory of contemporary Tunisia, held together by an intense, powerful, and grating soundtrack. Regularly pairing with cinema and photography since their debut, Oiseaux-Tempête also accompanied the work of video/filmmakers As Human Pattern (KHAMSIN, best documentary at Torino Film Festival), Hinde Boujemaa (Noura's Dream, Golden Tanit & Best Actress prizes at JCC Carthage), Léa Fehner (Les Ogres, best film at Cabourg Film Festival), Stéphane Charpentier (The Divided Line, Athens French Institute), Karel Doing (Palindrome Series, International Film Festival Rotterdam), Clément Cogitore (Braguino exhibition at Le BAL), and the Temps Zero live screenings (in Berlin, Paris, Toulouse with photographers Michael Ackerman, Gaël Bonnefon, Adam Cohen, Damien Daufresne, Alisa Resnik, Gilles Roudière, Yusuf Sevincli...)
