Ecco «Preiddeu Annwn» nel testo originale e nela versione inglese di Sarah Higley, tratti da «Camelot Project»…
www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/annwn.htm

The Spoils of Annwn
I
1. I praise the Lord,
Prince of the realm, King.
2. His sovereignty has extended
across the world's tract.
3. Equipped was
the prison of Gweir
in the Mound Fortress,
4. throughout the account(?) of
Pwyll and Pryderi.
5. No one before him
went into it,
6. into the heavy blue/gray chain;
a faithful servant it held.
7. And before the spoils of Annwfyn
bitterly he sang.
8. And until Judgment
shall last
our bardic invocation.
9. Three fullnesses of Prydwen
we went into it.
10. Except seven
none rose up
from the Fortress of the Mound.
II
11. I am honored in praise.
Song was heard
12. in the Four-Peaked Fortress,
four its revolutions.
13. My poetry,
from the cauldron
it was uttered.
14. From the breath of nine maidens
it was kindled.
15. The cauldron of the chief of Annwfyn:
what is its fashion?
16. A dark ridge around its border
and pearls.
17. It does not boil the food of a coward;
it has not been destined.
18. The flashing sword of Lleawch
has been lifted to it.
19. And in the hand of Lleminawc
it was left.
20. And before the door of hell
lamps burned.
21. And when we went with Arthur,
brilliant difficulty,
22. except seven
none rose up
from the Fortress of Mead-Drunkenness.
III
23. I am honored in praise;
song is heard
24. in the Fortress of Four-Peaks,
isle of the strong door.
25. Flowing water and jet
are mingled.
26. Sparkling wine their liquor
before their retinue.
27. Three fullnesses of Prydwen
we went on the sea.
28. Except seven none rose up
from the Fortress of Hardness.
IV
29. I merit not the Lord's
little men of letters.
30. Beyond the Glass Fortress they did not see
the valor of Arthur.
31. Six thousand men
stood upon the wall.
32. It was difficult
to speak
with their sentinel.
33. Three fullnesses of Prydwen
went with Arthur.
34. Except seven
none rose up
from the Fortress of Guts (Hindrance?).
V
35. I do not merit little men,
slack their shield straps.
36. They do not know which day
who was created (or: created whom?);
37. what hour of midday (?)
Cwy was born.
38. Who made him
who did not go
(to the) meadows of Defwy?
39. They do not know the brindled ox,
thick his headband.
40. Seven score links
on his collar.
41. And when we went with Arthur,
dolorous visit,
42. except seven
none rose up
from the fortress of God's Peak.
VI
43. I do not merit little men,
slack their will.
44. They do not know which day
the chief was created,
45. what hour of the midday
the owner was born,
46. what animal they keep, silver its head.
47. When we went with Arthur,
sorrowful strife,
48. except seven
none rose up
from the Fortress of Enclosedness.
VII
49. Monks howl
like a choir of dogs
50. from an encounter with lords
who know:
51. is there one course of wind?
is there one course of water?
52. is there one spark of fire
of fierce tumult?
VIII
53. Monks pack together
like young wolves
54. from an encounter with lords
who know.
55. They do not know when midnight
and dawn divide.
56. Nor wind, what its course,
what its onrush,
57. what place it ravages,
what region it strikes.
58. The grave of the saint
is hidden
(or: lost, vanishing, in the Otherworld),
both grave and ground (or: champion).
59. I praise the Lord,
great prince,
60. that I be not sad;
Christ endows me.

Le spoglie di Annwn
I.
1. Innalzo lode al Signore,
Principe del regno, Sovrano.
2. La sua sovranità si estende
su tutta la regione del mondo.
3. Allestita fu
la prigione di Gweir
nella Fortezza del Tumulo,
4. per tutto il resoconto (?)
di Pwyll e Pryderi.
5. Nessuno prima di lui
vi si recò,
6. nella pesante catena grigioazzurra;
un servo fedele essa teneva.
7. E prima le spoglie di Annwfyn
egli mestamente cantò.
8. E fino al Giorno del Giudizio
durerà
la nostra bardica invocazione.
9. Tre carichi di Prydwen
vi si recarono.
10. Tranne sette
nessuno sorse
dalla Fortezza del Tumulo.
II.
11. Lodi mi onorano.
Un canto fu udito
12. nella Fortezza dalle Quattro Cime,
quattro le sue rivoluzioni.
13. La mia poesia,
dal calderone
fu emessa.
14. Dal respiro di nove vergini
fu alimentata.
15. Il calderone del condottiero dell’Annwfyn:
in quale foggia fu fabbricato?
16. Un fosco rilievo intorno all’orlo
e perle.
17. Non bolle il cibo di un codardo;
non è destinato.
18. La spada lampeggiante di Lleawch
è stata sollevata su di esso.
19. E la mano di Lleminawc
fu lasciata.
20. E dinanzi alla porta degli inferi
ardevano lampade.
21. E quando andammo con Arthur,
estrema difficoltà,
22. tranne sette
nessuno sorse
dalla Fortezza dell’Ebbrezza d’Idromele.
III.
23. Lodi mi onorano;
il canto è udito
24. nella Fortezza delle Quattro Cime,
isola di solida porta.
25. Acqua corrente e getti
sono mescolati.
26. Vino sfavillante il loro liquore
dinanzi al loro seguito (corteo, scorta).
27. Tre carichi di Prydwen
andammo sul mare.
28. Tranne sette nessuno sorse
dalla Fortezza dell’Avversità.
IV.
29. Non merito i meschini
letterati del Signore.
30. Oltre la Fortezza di Vetro non vedono
il valore di Arthur.
31. Seimila uomini
stavano sulle mura.
32. Era difficile
parlare
con la loro sentinella.
33. Tre carichi di Prydwen
andarono con Arthur.
34. Tranne sette
nessuno sorse
dalla Fortezza dello Stretto (Ostacolo?) (Valico? Varco?).
V.
35. Non merito uomini meschini,
fiacche le cinghie dei loro scudi.
36. Non sanno in quale giorno
né chi fu creato (o: da chi fu creato?);
37. in quale ora del mezzogiorno (?)
Cwy nacque.
38. Chi lo creò
chi non andò
(ai) prati di Defwy?
39. Non conoscono il bue pezzato,
spessa la fascia intorno alla sua testa.
40. Sette ventine di maglie
sul suo collare.
41. E quando andammo con Arthur,
dolorosa visita,
42. tranne sette
nessuno sorse
dalla fortezza della Cima d’Iddio.
VI.
43. Non merito uomini meschini,
fiacca la loro volontà.
44. Non sanno in quale giorno
il capo fu creato,
45. in quale ora del mezzogiorno
il possessore nacque,
46. quale animale custodiscono,
argento sulla sua testa.
47. Quando andammo con Arthur,
funesta lotta,
48. tranne sette
nessuno sorse
dalla Fortezza del Romitaggio.
VII.
49. Monaci ululano
come coro di cani
50. da un incontro con i signori
che sanno;
51. esiste là una rotta di vento?
esiste là una rotta d’acqua?
52. esiste là una favilla di fuoco
di feroce tumulto?
VIII.
53. Monaci in branco
come giovani lupi
54. da un incontro con i signori
che sanno.
55. Non sanno quando la mezzanotte
e l’alba dividono.
56. Né vento, quale la sua rotta,
quale il suo impeto,
57. quale luogo devasta;
quale regione colpisce.
58. La tomba del santo
è nascosta (o perduta, scomparsa nell’Aldilà),
sia la tomba sia la terra (o: campione).
59. Innalzo lode al Signore,
grande principe,
60. che io non mi rattristi;
Cristo mi fornisce doni.
E sempre il vento e l’ombra misuravano il tempo,
il sole portava riflessi come grate di gioia
alloggiata là fuori, incurante degli agguati—
quella che si sarebbe dovuta cercare.
