Jesus and his disciples went into the Garden of Gesthemane to pray. He told them to "watch and pray", but their tiredness overcame them. He was left alone with his dread of what was to come. Lord, may we always watch with you; may we adore you in the Blessed Sacrament whenever possible.

Jesus was handed over to be beaten. The Roman soldiers used scourges which would cause the most pain: lashes with sharpened bones attached to the end, to cause maximum blood loss. But after the "legal" thirty nine lashes they did not stop, beating Jesus not quite to death, leaving him alive so that he could die on the Cross, as had been prophesied. Every time they struck you, it was for me and my sins, Lord Jesus! Forgive me!
