Of course, I'll keep on trying. I think I'll try geting another email and perhaps that (since my current one is already in the database) and inserting the symbols/numbers in the password will work. At my office, we can't even change our password unless it's approved as "secure" so I know what you mean by adding a number, doing upper and lower case letters, etc.
Since I now have sisters who respect and love the same person I do, I'm not about to quit ...
Yes, Benefan, that will be the FIRST question to my friends ... they were so thrilled to be close to the Holy Father and do you, besides the bouquet of roses they were supposed to present to him on my behalf I also gave them a birthday card that I'd been saving since April since I felt that would be the best chance for it not to wind up in the proverbial Vatican dungeon ... remember when you all were plotting about somehow getting to see Papa but probably winding up in a CDF dungeon together? I loved that ...
Onward and upward. Or, as we say in Hawaii .. IMUA! (think Spanish pronumciation and you'll be saying it right.

Papabear, keep on trying! Some of us had a lot of problems too but eventually the silly system let us in.
As I recall, we had this plot to get thrown into the Vatican dungeons and there was a 'tussle' about decoration of the cells. Benefan (I think it was she) 'hogged' all the best posters of our poster boy, and they had to call out the Swiss Guards to settle the matter, which was finally sorted out when Da Man Himself paid a visit.
Well, maybe I don't remember it quite right, but it was fun anyway.
Then there was the time Maryjos and Pooh Bear took the magic carpet to Castelgandolfo and she hid behind a tree to avoid detection. Not sure how that one ended, but I think falling into the swimming pool came into it somewhere... |

Dear papabear - I'm sure Paparatzifan is doing all she can to help; she's a founder member of the Italian forum. I seem to remember, when I registered that it asks you to have at least one symbol in your password, such as a hyphen and then a number after the word itself.
Is that right,Paparatzifan?
I am permanently logged in, because it's easier, so I can't remember exactly what I did.
Keep trying, papabear!!!!!!!
Love, Mary x
P.S. Paparatzifan - I love one of your signature photos where the girl is almost touching noses with Papa! Do you mind if I copy you and use it sometime?
Re password: maryjos is right! Papabear, you have to include a number and a symbol. Example of password: bavarese2% (eight letters, one number and a symbol).
Maryjos: Of course, you can include that photo for your signature!

Dear Papabear , it seems you're not the only one with problems with the registartion thing.....
There's almost 30 user waitting for confirmation. Only the Admistrator to the Forum or a Vice-Admistrator with a special permission could do it....Unfortunally I don't havee this permission in order to be able to solve your problem. Perhaps Paparatzifan or Sihaya have this permission.
But, I left a message for one of the Administrators to the Free Forum Zone. So, let's wait to see what happens |

Dear Lupe:
I know there are more than 30 users waiting to be activated but I prefer not to do it because they have not posted anything on "Benvenuti". If they don't do it I think they are not really interested on our forum.

Well, I'm one very grateful PapaBear ... after this post, if I see my status as registrato, please ignore my desperate sounding post on the Good Morning thread ... as someone said, "need to calm down."
And I'm hoping for the best because now I see the FFZ Codes enabled and additional check marks in the Post Options section. Smile!

Hooray! Finally! Congratulations, Papabear16! Welcome to the flock and thanks to all the admins who had to intercede to get you in. Don't know why it's so difficult. It took Crotchet forever to get legit too. (By the way, where IS she? Haven't seen her in some time.)
I hope you enjoy your stay with us, Papabear. I know we are enjoying your posts.
===================================================================
Benefan - Apparently, you did not get a long e-mail I sent you last week where I said something about Crotchet. She spent most of August and September in Europe where she was a judge in a number of choral festivals, and she was to attend the Angelus at Castel Gandolfo on Sept. 23, but she didn't want anything said about it until after it happened - and I see by something she wrote in the RFC that she did get to see Papino at CG last Sunday, so it's safe to say so now.
Teresa

Wow! How wonderful for Crotchet! I mean seeing Papa. The 2 months in Europe are fantastic too. I'll bet she had a tremendous time. I hope we hear about her exploits soon. As for your email, Teresa, no, I didn't get it and I check my FFZ mail fairly regularly.

I haven't had time to see if anyone has posted these on another thread, so here goes!
This week's Catholic Herald has an interesting item on its front page. I don't understand betting terms, but apparently George Cardinal Pell of Sydney is 10 to 1 to become the next Archbishop of Westminster. Does that make him the favourite? I hope so! Other names are mentioned - all of them currently bishops of dioceses in England or Wales. The Church in England is in quite a bad state: dreadful liturgical "music" and a very liberal, left wing outlook. It would be bad enough if this were in my diocese alone, but it's everywhere. I wish I knew what Cormac Murphy O'Connor is really thinking. I don't think he voted for our Papa at the conclave, because of the way he addressed people outside Westminster Cathedral on his return - he seemed to be consoling them.
I've also wondered just how much Papa is aware of the Church in my country. I needn't have worried. Of course he's kept well informed, even though he hasn't visited us and shows no signs of doing so. Would he take Cardinal Pell from Sydney? This article thinks he may hesitate because Pell has done so much with his outreach initiative to young people, which will culminate in WYD next year. However, having set it going, why should be not leave it in someone else's capable hands and come to Westminster, where he would doubtless shake up the English and Welsh bishops?
I'm a great fan of Cardinal Pell. He's astute, intellectual and he's Benedict's man all right!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other news item is that Papa is going to the USA in April or May next year and this has now been confirmed. He'll address the United Nations in New York and also visit Washington.
Any thoughts on these matters?
Luff - Mary x
====================================================================
Dear Mary - I saw the item on Cardinal Pell yesterday but I chose to ignore it because it was a 'betting' story that, I thought, has nothing to do with Church reality. And I am surprised that the Catholic Herald even runs a story of this sort!
Here is where I saw it - an English blog called mulierfortis:
Back in June, I posted a snippet on what a "kick-ass" Cardinal the Aussies in Sydney had. In addition to the idea of starting a Cardinal Pell fanclub (there are at least two now on Facebook) I also suggested that we might want to petition for him to sort out the Church in England & Wales when Cardinal Murphy O'Connor resigns...
Today's Catholic Herald therefore makes for very interesting reading: Cardinal Pell has been added to the list of possible successors by Paddy Power, the Irish bookmakers. And at 10-1, he's not exactly an outsider...
...excuse me a minute, I just need to go and place a bet...
Correct me if I am wrong, but Cardinal Pell is Australian. In what capacity would he be entitled in any way to be appointed a bishop in the United Kingdom, which has enough prelates of its own to choose from? It is not like Russia or the Ukraine, say, where the tragically reduced state of the Church forces the Vatican to name an 'outsider' to important episcopal assignments.
As for the Pope's trip to the United States, we have been reporting about it in NEWS ABOUT BENEDICT since an Italian paper first broke the news. I will come back and cite the specific posts after checking back because the first item dates back to August, if I remember right.
Australia is part of the Commonwealth and I don't see why we can't have Pell at Westminster.
Damian Thompson is a very well-known journalist in the UK and he has his ear to the ground. It is possible that he is simply putting the cat among the pigeons with the story, in which case, let's hope it causes some fluttering. Mary was right to run with it, because even if it's not true it says something about the state of the RC church over here.
Although it is controversial in some quarters, those interested in the UK bishops might care to look at Damian Thompson's blog 'Holy Smoke' for a personal, alternative view. If England and Wales do have 'enough prelates of its[sic] own to choose from', perhaps you have an idea as to who would be suitable?
====================================================================
Thanks for the information, Wulfrune. While I am aware that Australia is part of the Commonwealth, I do not know that the political configuration of the Commonwealth has any bearing at all on the diocesan episcopal assignments of the Catholic Church, which are very much based on local/national Churches and are not assignments at large in all the countries were the local Churches are functioning normally. Again, I may be dreadfully wrong about this, of course.
I do not know enough of your clergy to name anyone offhand, but I gather from some of the English bloggers such as Father Finigan that the bishops of England and Wales are not totally a lost cause. I am sure the Holy Father has the Curial scouts and his own antennae on the alert for possible names. One encouraging sign is that he has been naming prelates younger than 50 these days to important posts - Mietek (though I think he's 50 already), Mons. Guido Marini, the new Archbishop of Moscow, so his choice for Westminster may not necessarily be anyone predictable now.
TERESA
P.S. I do look at Thompson's blog now and then, and I have even cited him at least a couple of times on the Forum. I have a problem with accessing the Herald directly because I haven't figured out how to physically 'lift' stories from it - I can't get the hang of its PDF platform.
Actually, I have been hoping that you and Mary could keep us abreast regularly of what's happening in the UK, because I cannot manage to check UK sources (or Canadian, or Polish, or Spanish, etc....for that matter!!!) as regularly as I would want to. There's just too much to survey everyday, not to mention the translating and the background and picture research...
First of all, it's not the whole United Kingdom we are considering here. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own bishops and, as far as I know [Wulfrune will comment if necessary, since she knows more about these things than I do] they are orthodox and solid followers of Pope Benedict.
The Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster is "primate", to use the Anglicans' term, of England and Wales only. Within this area there are provinces, e.g. the Province of Birmingham [Archbishop Vincent Nichols - a good man]. My diocese comes into that province. Then you have the various dioceses, e.g. Clifton, Portsmouth, Plymouth et al. and the Welsh ones.
There is absolutely no reason why Papa should not move Cardinal Pell from Sydney to Westminster. I just pray that he does.
When I mentioned the apostolic journey to the USA I was inviting comments. It had already been reported; but I'm afraid I just don't have time at the moment to read everything.
Teresa - do you mind if I ask you, very nicely of course, to post any replies as separate comments. Within another person's space they can get lost.
Thank you!
