HIERI HA HAARLEM....
BONECRUSHER - ATTENCHUN - ARISTA - 2003 - $3.33
Un album di 17 traccie, 15 con FEATs!!! Ok c'e' TI, KILLER MIKE, LIL JON, DAVID BANNER, GOODIE MOB et al ma mi pare eccessivo.
The debut album from the Break 'Em Off/So So Def/Arista joint is a complex ride throughout an assortment of subjects. Bone Crusher's energetic and raw edge is what you cling to on this album, although it does seem to meander along a touch. Even die hard fans will be hard pressed to find anything fresh and unexpected on this album which results in you feeling that you missed out on something. His loud and brash exterior is something which he plays heavily on and manages to give a street element to the Atlanta faithful and simply proves he will be never scared.

Figlio che co-fondatore del NIKE. Mi sa che daddy avra' pagato qualche dollaretta per fa' uscire questo album. Cio' nonostante non e' bruttissimo.
DIVINE STYLER - WORD POWER - CBS/EPIC - 1989 - $2
Word Power is the debut album by Divine Styler, released in 1989 on Epic Records. On this album, Divine raps about been proud of hertitage (hightlighted on It's a Black Thing), and features Bilal Bashir (who made later instrumentals for the likes of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Everlast), who later re-released this album in instrumental form, in 2005. The album is best known for the songs 'Ain't Sayin Nothin' which featured a sample scratch noise similar to the sound used in House Of Pain's song, Jump Around and Cypress Hill's Insane In The Brain, and 'Freestyler', which features samples of James Brown.

GODFATHER DON - HAZARDOUS - CNR - 1991 - $2
Ultra fans know Keith was already a legend by then, but not everyone knows that Don had released a self-produced album in 1991 on Select Records. I suspect that the back cover of the album - a picture of Don walking down the street carrying a guitar case, probably conjured up a lot of associations with Me Phi Me, or Justin Warfield, and didn't really clue people into the fact the album was actually jam packed with real hip hop. "Hazardous," the title track for the album, is my favorite song on there - Don shows off the lyrical versatility that was the center piece of the album. And the beat is dope. The album wasn't brilliant - a lot of hooks that don't quite work, and sometimes the changes of style come off as gimmicky. But it's no accident that Don was able to come back in the 90's and develop a strong fan base. The man had skills - as he displays all over this song. Back when this album dropped, I had a section of my wall devoted to the ugliest promo posters I could find. "The Hazardous" poster would have been the centerpiece had it not been for my poster of Kid N' Play etched into Mount Rushmore. Fortunately, the album was better than the poster. This definitely belongs in the "overlooked" category.
JUVENILE COMMITTEE - FREE US COLORED KIDS - GRAND JURY - 1993 - $2
Jay-Bo, Speedy, Rick-Rock, and Smurfie B. grew up in the same South Central L.A. housing project, and began to get together to rap about the problems young blacks face. A local producer noticed, and brought the group to his Grand Jury Records (a division of Reprise). The result, 1993's Free Us Colored Kids, was produced with help from Hank Shocklee, Daddy-O, DJ Quick, and Dr. Dre
MAESTRO FRESH WES - SYMPHONY IN EFFECT - LMR RECs - 1989 - $2
MR MYSTIC - WAIT TIL THEY GET A LOAD OF ME - THG MUSIC - 1993 - $2
POPPA BEAR KOOL BREEZE & BABY WISE - NOW YA KNOW - THG MUSIC - 1993 - $2
PUBLIC ENEMY - YO! BUM RUSH THE SHOW - DEF JAM - 1987 - $2
SHA-KEY - A HEAD NADDA's JOURNET TO ADIDI SKIZM - IMAGO - 1994 - $2
SLICK RICK - BEHIND BARS - DEF JAM - 1994 - $2
Within hip-hop, Slick Rick is arguably the most acclaimed MC of them all. Snoop Doggy Dogg, for one, owes a huge debt to his detached, effortless delivery on the microphone. At his best, Slick Rick was always coolness personified. The London-born artist's troubles, however, have been well-documented. They are further addressed by the man himself on the title track to this recording, completed during a work release program with the help of veteran hip-hop producer Prince Paul (Rick was in jail for the 1990 shooting of an innocent bystander while attempting to chase down a bodyguard). Before Ol' Dirty Bastard cornered the market, Slick Rick was rap's bad boy-in-chief. On this uneven record, he pays witness to the events that shaped him, rather than detailing his current incarceration. Regardless, there are times when the listener might wish for a more reflective and less violently female-baiting narrator; absolution and regret aren't particularly high on his agenda when he proclaims "bitches ain't no good.
THE NEW STYLE - INDEPENDENT LEADERS - MCA - 1989 - $2
Ehsi....il debutto ufficiale dei NAUGHTY BY NATURE, solo con un nome, e look, diverso.

Davvero fantastico. THAWFOR e' diventato un idolo mio per quella traccia solo che ha fatto. Ma come hai detto so' i beats a vincere. Le sensazioni so' sempre pseudo- ANTICONiane ma con una base piu' tradizionale, (beat/melodia) secondo me.

ALIAS & TARSIER - PLANE THAT DRAWS A WHITE LINE - ANTICON - 2006 - $1
Practicamente so' dei remixes and traccie dimenticate che non so' state usate per il BROOKLAND OAKLYN album.
The story goes like this: In creating Brookland/Oaklyn, the full-length incarnation of this particular collaboration, Alias and Tarsier spent the better part of over a year and a half e-mailing each other back and forth, creating an album with each other without ever really having to verbally communicate with each other. At a mere ten tracks, that album evidently didn’t represent the full spectrum of all that Alias and Tarsier put together over that period of time. Enter Plane That Draws a White Line, an EP that serves the dual purpose of allowing Anticon to release the leftovers from the album proper, and also release a few remixes of selected tracks from Brookland/Oaklyn, including one remix that was languishing on Alias & Tarsier’s first release, the Dr. C 12”. It all wraps the collaboration up in a nice, tight little bow and gives everyone involved a sense of closure.

MYKA NYNE - WORK IN PROGRESS - ENTAGRATE - 2003 - $4
Myka Nyne of the legendary Freestyle Fellowship is back with his new solo full length, Work In Progress-- the first on his own M9 imprint. Featuring over seventy minutes of trademark Myka Nyne lyrics and styling, Work In Progress showcases each and every aspect of his style-- from slow burners to lightning flow, from nu-soul to battle raps. The release features standout guest spots from RBX, Brother J of the X-Clan, Tajai of Souls of Mischief, and Saafir of Hobo Junction. A-List production is handled by Joseph Leimberg, RC, and Myka himself. With one of the most impressive back catalogs in underground hiphop (Inner City Griots, To Whom It May Concern, Haiku D'Etat, Timetable, It's All Love), Myka Nyne has proven himself as not only an artistic force but as one of the most recognizable names in independent hiphop. Work In Progress should go down as another landmark in the already notable career of this fiercely independent artist.
PUNK BARBARIANS - SEX, PROPS, CREAM AND THE DRAMA BETWEEN - LETHAL RECs - 1996 - $4
RAPPINSTINE - THE ULTIMATE CREATION - QWEST - 1991 - $4
With a style that's somewhere between Young MC and Candyman, Rappinstine was the type of rap act that appealed to those who liked their hip-hop drenched in R&B. The Ultimate Creation, a commercial outing that unites lighthearted rapping with R&B and funk melodies, obviously wasn't recorded with hip-hop's hardcore in mind. Hip-hop purists tend to take a dim view of rap that appeals to R&B and pop fans, and tunes as overtly commercial as "Mary Jane" (which is based on Rick James' 1978 hit) and "Funk You Up" stood little chance of winning those purists over. But that doesn't mean that this CD is without artistic merit — in fact, The Ultimate Creation is a generally decent, though not remarkable, party album. Rappinstine doesn't do a lot of sociopolitical material — its subject matter is usually lighthearted and escapist — but the group has a noteworthy message song in "The Good Life." Based on T.S. Monk's Chic-influenced 1981 hit, "The Good Life" describes an inner-city youth's desire to get ahead despite the obstacles he faces. Some of the material is routine, but when Rappinstine finds the right groove, The Ultimate Creation can be fun and catchy
SENSATIONAL - NATURAL SHINE - WORDSOUND - 2002 - $4
What can you say about this guy Sensational? Yeah, he's crazy, he's out there, he's a nut. But he also keeps coming with the sound you just can't keep down. After numerous guest spots, four solo albums, a feature film (Crooked: The Movie & The Soundtrack WSCD41), and now his fifth full-length, Natural Shine (WSCD044), it's safe to say that Sensational ain't no joke.
He's got that Natural Shine, a burning charisma that incinerates all sucker MCs. After showing and proving as the posta child of the underground in Crooked, Sensational returns to elevate the game to new levels of dopeness. Armed with greater production values, cyber-beats, and a fuzz-free mic, the scrappiest MC/producer on the unscene crafts a potent elixir of hip-hop madness.
Right from the "Jump Off," Sensational sounds hungrier than ever, his muted growl sharper and more focussed through cuts like "Stock Market Connection" and "Style Notice." You can also hear what he's saying as he drops punchlines that'll be giving you flashbacks like LSD. Whether its weed or women, beatboxing or freestylin' off the head top on "Press Record," Sensational is on a mission to make his visions of grandeur a reality. And just try to overthrow the flow.
Unlike previous outings, Sensational hands over some of the production duties to Brooklyn's DJ Karlos, who also engineered most of the album at his Amazonas Jungle Studios. Additional production support from the Ill Saint ("Super Stylin'") and Japanese noiz arkitekt, Kouhei ("Jump Off") round out the tight, 14 track set. Sensational brings out his crew on "cipher" featuring Ed, Kev Hutch, and Black Chameleon, but Natural Shine is a solo affair that speaks from the heart of darkness.

DEEJAY PUNK-ROC - SPOILING IT FOR EVERYONE - INDEPENDIENTE - 2000 - $1
Si dice che e' il RADIOHEAD per i B-BOYs. Pensa un po'.
Such is the precariousness of the graffiti-spraying, breakdancing world of B-boys and B-girls that its champions can either look like underground heroes swilling gallons of good vibes or outdated fools twirling on their asses. Certainly DeeJay Punk Roc often flipped back and forth from both fates throughout his career. Which makes Spoiling It for Everyone just as mighty and diverse as his work in the past, but also just as dubious. Early bird "The Living Sound of Reality" is probably the most promising. It offers frenetic scratching, educational samples, and booming beatboxing that would cause even Bentley Rhythm Ace's retinas to turn green. Not to be outdone, songs like "Hi-Fi Wrecker" quickly follow-up by cutting huge slabs of electro breakbeats that not only showcase a bassline miles ahead of the drum'n'bass elite, but also mates nicely with 2000's previous jungle-inspired hip-hop gem, Bahamadia's "Pep Talk." With the album's old-school adoration and ADD rapidity, it's eclecticism done right. The pseudo-corner, slap-bass, R&B harmonies of "Blow My Mind," conversely, only taint these highs. Instead of flashing new B-boy stances, it cringes on its own bloated weight and makes the album look like one of those repugnant "desert island" lists trying too hard. It was a close call too. For a musician who tries so hard to show off his worldly record collection, DeeJay Punk Roc seems to have once again only gotten it about half right. So take heed: you can get drunk off of Roc's funk-laden, big beat-a-delic hip-hop, but you'd feel a hangover only minutes later.
LIL TROY - SITTIN' FAT DOWN SOUTH - UNIVERSAL - 1999 - $1
Il suo debutto sorprendentemente bello, basato sul hit: WANNA BE A BALLER.
With its singsong chorus, melodic synth, and reverb-laden 808, "Wanna Be a Baller" became a regional hit in Texas, the South, and the Midwest. This track exemplifies the best aspects of Sittin' Fat Down South: heartfelt flows, crisp production influenced by classic Houston rap and Oaktown funk, and a slew of guest appearances. These elements make Sittin' Fat a commendable effort, but the release lacks lyrically. None of the cast ever step beyond retread gangsta themes; the sincerity with which they rhyme makes this palatable at first but cannot pull the listener through all 14 tracks. Additionally, Lil' Troy and crew are missing that almost intangible factor that takes rappers like Too Short and 2pac, of whom the Short Stop camp are conclusively fans, to that other level. This "X Factor" probably has something to do with where charisma, technical skill, and creativity meet. Sittin Fat Down South still shows potential, though, and at many points is prone to get the head noddin'. As a note to Geto Boys fans, both Scarface and Willie D. represent with appearances.

MJG - NO MORE GLORY - SUAVE HOUSE - 1996 - $1
MJG's solo debut No More Glory is a harder, more political record than anything he made with his regular partner, Eightball. While it has a few rough patches and it runs a little long, No More Glory is nevertheless an impressive display from MJG, revealing that he has greater lyrical insight and deeper musical gifts than previously suspected. The music is still Southern hardcore, with deep bass and hard-hitting rhythms, but the production is more textured than before, illustrating that the genre isn't as mindless as many critics claim. The album could have used a little of the more of the light funk that makes the single "That Girl" so irresistable, but even so, No More Glory is a terrific first step forward from MJG.

YOUNG BLEED - MY OWN - PRIORITY - 1999 - $1
Young Bleed finds a new sound for himself after leaving Master P's No Limit label, moving towards a smoother style of hip-hop that accentuates his lyrical delivery. This album's production, courtesy of Da' Crime Lab, looks back to the soul-drenched sound of classic '70s funk (Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes) for its inspiration, laying down a sedate layer of beats with the subtle inclusion of quick, scattered electro-style beats. With music such as this to rap over, Young Bleed keeps his quick, Southern-accented lyrics flowing at a relentless pace in a hushed tone that emanates a sense of calmness. In a way, this album sounds like a Southern version of the West Coast G-Funk featured on the albums of rappers such as Too Short, Warren G, and DJ Quik. Furthermore, Young Bleed raps on the majority of his album, resulting in a refreshing alternative to his guest rapper-polluted affair on No Limit. The Southern rapper is good enough on the mic in terms of delivery, lyrics, and personality to hold his own on this album, which stays succinct at only 12 strong songs rather than 20-some tracks that rehash the same motifs over and over. By 1999, most Southern hip-hop artists still sounded a bit amateur, but My Own finds Young Bleed sounding like a veteran on some truly fresh beats.

COPPERPOT - CHAPTER SEVEN - EV PROD - 2004 - $5
On the whole, the album and Copperpot's overall style are mostly about doing things a little differently and being on the cusp; Chapter Seven speaks the language of hip-hop but has its own distinct dialect. Most significant is the producer/DJ's usage of unconventional sampled sounds, infectious beats and scratching techniques. With this, his debut full-length, Kuypers crafts melodies from instruments such as xylophone, classical guitar, flute, harpsichord, accordion, glockenspiel, upright piano, jazz Rhodes keys, and a computer-generated video game theme song. A rarity on their own, these sampled sounds stand out even more in the mix of urban music because they are taken from different music cultures - Spanish, Czech, American, Far East European, and more.
LOST AT SEA REVIEW/STORIA
DAZ - I GOT LOVE IN THESE STREETS - DPG RECz - 2004 - $3
He released the album independently on his Gangsta Advisory Recordingz label, produced all the beats himself, hawks T-shirts on the inside cover, promotes his website shamelessly, and proclaims his love for the streets from the get-go (hoping they'll in turn love him). As for the music, well, it's only a notch or two above run of the mill as far as West Coast gangsta rap goes, but give Daz points for integrity and an A for effort. In an age where every rapper brags and boasts about money and fame, Daz isn't ashamed to be himself -- a truly underground gangsta rapper struggling to just get by -- and that in itself is something to write about. For a refreshing change, here's a brother who truly "keeps it real." And that's gangsta in every sense of the word.

MEKON - WELCOME TO TACKLETOWN - PIAS - 1997 - $3
