Aret Madilian and Beatrice Valalntin both self-taught musicians, come from different backgrounds. The Istanbul born Aret, an American of Greek-Armenian roots who grew up in Los Angeles and the poetic French influences of Beatrice, play a strong role in Deleyaman's alchemy.

Their seventh album paints a sonic picture of a brief day spent in an old dwelling visiting memories and dreams. The 57 minute album contains 11 tracks, three of which are sung in French inspired by the poetry of Paul Verlaine, Pierre de Marbeuf and Paul Eluard. All other lyrics by Aret Madilian. The Lover, The Stars & The Citadel includes a prestigious guest and friend Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance), making an appearance on two of the album's tracks (Greek bouzouki on ‘Escape’ and percussion programming on ‘Autumn Sun’). All songs were recorded in Deleyaman’s studio located in a rural coastal village of Normandy, France. The influences of band-leader Aret Madilian lay between melodic post-punk, Darkwave, Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave.

The dark core and the melodies are still there, but sometimes a bit slower and more inspired by pop and indie music than the goth and synth music scene.

Together with the producer Jon Bordon (Nicole Sabourné, Melody Club), and the drummer Joakim Janthe (Principe Valiente, Nicole Sabourné), 8 songs were recorded between February and June 2016. Two very personal videos were also recorded for the two first singles together with Andreas Hillerboerg.

Brian Eno discusses Reflection

Reflection is the latest work in a long series. It started (as far as record releases are concerned) with Discreet Music in 1975 ( - or did it start with the first Fripp and Eno album in 1973? Or did it start with the first original piece of music I ever made, at Ipswich Art School in 1965 - recordings of a metal lampshade slowed down to half and quarter speed, all overlaid?)

Anyway, it’s the music that I later called ‘Ambient’. I don’t think I understand what that term stands for anymore - it seems to have swollen to accommodate some quite unexpected bedfellows - but I still use it to distinguish it from pieces of music that have fixed duration and rhythmically connected, locked together elements.

The pedigree of this piece includes Thursday Afternoon, Neroli (whose subtitle is Thinking Music IV) and LUX. I’ve made a lot of thinking music, but most of it I’ve kept for myself. Now I notice that people are using some of those earlier records in the way that I use them - as provocative spaces for thinking - so I feel more inclined to make them public.

Pieces like this have another name: they’re GENERATIVE. By that I mean they make themselves. My job as a composer is to set in place a group of sounds and phrases, and then some rules which decide what happens to them. I then set the whole system playing and see what it does, adjusting the sounds and the phrases and the rules until I get something I’m happy with. Because those rules are probabilistic ( - often taking the form ‘perform operation x, y percent of the time’) the piece unfolds differently every time it is activated. What you have here is a recording of one of those unfoldings.

Reflection is so called because I find it makes me think back. It makes me think things over. It seems to create a psychological space that encourages internal conversation. And external ones actually - people seem to enjoy it as the background to their conversations. When I make a piece like this most of my time is spent listening to it for long periods - sometimes several whole days - observing what it does to different situations, seeing how it makes me feel. I make my observations and then tweak the rules. Because everything in the pieces is probabilistic and because the probabilities pile up it can take a very long time to get an idea of all the variations that might occur in the piece. One rule might say ‘raise 1 out of every 100 notes by 5 semitones’ and another might say ‘raise one out of every 50 notes by 7 semitones’. If those two instructions are operating on the same data stream, sometimes - very rarely - they will both operate on the same note…so something like 1 in every 5000 notes will be raised by 12 semitones. You won’t know which of those 5000 notes it’s going to be. Since there are a lot of these types of operations going on together, on different but parallel data streams, the end result is a complex and unpredictable web.

Perhaps you can divide artists into two categories: farmers and cowboys. The farmers settle a piece of land and cultivate it carefully, finding more and more value in it. The cowboys look for new places and are excited by the sheer fact of discovery, and the freedom of being somewhere that not many people have been before. I used to think I was temperamentally more cowboy than farmer… but the fact that the series to which this piece belongs has been running now for over 4 decades makes me think that there’s quite a big bit of farmer in me.

"REFLECTION is the most recent of my Ambient experiments and represents the most sophisticated of them so far. My original intention with Ambient music was to make endless music, music that would be there as long as you wanted it to be. I wanted also that this music would unfold differently all the time - ‘like sitting by a river’: it’s always the same river, but it’s always changing. But recordings - whether vinyl, cassette or CD - are limited in length, and replay identically each time you listen to them. So in the past I was limited to making the systems which make the music, but then recording 30 minutes or an hour and releasing that. REFLECTION in its album form - on vinyl or CD - is like this. But the app by which REFLECTION is produced is not restricted: it creates an endless and endlessly changing version of the piece of music.

The creation of a piece of music like this falls into three stages: the first is the selection of sonic materials and a musical mode - a constellation of musical relationships. These are then patterned and explored by a system of algorithms which vary and permutate the initial elements I feed into them, resulting in a constantly morphing stream (or river) of music. The third stage is listening. Once I have the system up and running I spend a long time - many days and weeks in fact - seeing what it does and fine-tuning the materials and sets of rules that run the algorithms. It’s a lot like gardening: you plant the seeds and then you keep tending to them until you get a garden you like."

The harmony is brighter in the morning, transitioning gradually over the afternoon to reach the original key by evening. As the early hours draw in, newly introduced conditions thin the notes out and slow everything down."

New Order Presents Be Music is a compilation of productions by members of iconic Manchester group New Order, including classic dance and electro tracks released on Factory Records between 1982 and 1985, as well as more recent remixes for current artists such as Factory Floor, Marnie, Tim Burgess and Fujiya & Miyagi.


The generic tag Be Music was first used in 1981 and covered studio production work by all four members of New Order: Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert. Sumner often teamed with
Donald ‘Dojo’ Johnson of A Certain Ratio, including the pioneering electro cuts featured here by Quando Quango, 52nd Street, Marcel King, Paul Haig and Surprize. Morris and Gilbert worked with Thick Pigeon, Life, Red Turns To and also 52nd Street. Although more rock orientated, Hook proved he was no slouch on the dancefloor either with the mighty Fate/Hate by Nyam Nyam.


‘Producing was a really important sideline,’ recalls Bernard Sumner of the Factory era. ‘It’s OK doing it because although all the groups are skint, you learn a lot and you're helping somebody.’


After 1985 the band focused more on producing their own records, both as New Order and solo projects such as Electronic, Revenge, The Other Two, Monaco and Bad Lieutenant. However in recent years Stephen Morris in particular has remixed several newer artists, notably London industrialists Factory Floor, as well as former Factory workers A Certain Ratio and Section 25.


Bonus tracks on the 3xCD box set include Knew Noise by Section 25, produced by Ian Curtis and Rob Gretton of Joy Division way back in 1979, and the complete 22 minute version of Video 586, recorded by New Order themselves in 1982.


All tracks (12 on vinyl, 36 on the CD) are newly remastered. The liner notes feature commentary on the tracks by the artists and the members of New Order. Design and packaging are by Matt Robertson/Peter Saville Studio.

An invocation not so much of BABALON Herself, but of the tormented elemental of Frater T.O.P.A.N., and his fervent attempts to usher in the Æon of Horus.

In the lyrics - based on the texts of Frater T.O.P.A.N. on the Babalon Working - the perilous flame that is BABLON is called upon to ravage creation. She is asked to scorch the earth clean for the coming cosmic renovation. The Eternal Virgin would spring from Her womb. From Her love, the new divine man would be born. 70 years after the Bablon Working was deemed successfully concluded, its utter failure is painfully apparent.

»All love songs are of me« She says. This is certainly true of the first five songs of Deathward, To The Womb. The final songs, All Hail The Black Flame, seem different altogether. In this guise, BABALON brings not solely love, but cataclysm; a holocaust brought upon the domain of Man. Manifested as the Black Flame, She reaches from a time before time, formless chaos, and rips apart the very fabric of the created worlds. Such is Her nature: two opposing principles; that of the nurturing mother, and that of the callous destroyer.

Appended to the six original songs is a specially commissioned 12 minutes and 57 seconds long ritual work entitled “I Remember When I Was God” (included as download for the vinyl edition), and attributed to Teeraal Räum Pheynix. BABALON was summoned at Winter Solstice 2015 under the sign of ?, with assistance from Alone In The Hollow Garden, A.I.L of Arktau Eos, Michael Idehall, KzR of Bölzer, Nÿland ii of Hadewych, and Æther. To destroy and to give life. We declare this ritual concluded and successful.

The cult band based in Madrid and Rome, influential "industrial" pioneers of the pulsating, hypnotic and tribal rhythms since 1980 presents new album: Fluida Mekaniko. Fluida Mekaniko has been recorded during 2016 and contains 12 new tracks that, although they continue the line developed since Pulsión (2009), we also find here references to their most harsh and noisy sound of the eighties. Industrial Neo-tribalism where mechanical rhythms hypnotize, like mantras, inducing the trance. It highlights, and already is a distinctive feature of E.G., the inclusion of voices and sonorities of African, Arab and Asian music.

Parade Ground, the pioneers of Belgian cold wave and EBM, was created by two brothers Jean-Marc Pauly and Pierre Pauly in 1981. After some maxi-singles released between 1983-1987, Cut Up (originally released on PIAS in 1988) was the band's mighty wonderful full length debut and represent their "synth period". A genius pop music of 80s underground that pierces your soul.

New Jersey post-punkers/ indie rockers New Politicians were formed in late 2012 in a little community called Centerville. SPHS is a trio hailing from Lisbon, Portugal who formed in 2016 by David Wolf (from Uni_form/ When The Angels Breathe and Sweet Nico), Producer, synths and guitars, Nuno Francisco (from Uni_form/Alma Mater Society), on drums and programming and Nuno Varudo (from Persona Project/The Paper Road) as the lead singer and bass player.

SPHS’s music is hard to encompass into a single genre or sound. It draws inspiration from many bands such as: Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, etc. The band blends their influences with ever-present electronics (synths and drum machines) in a style most accurately labeled under the term, "darkwave", a style of music reminiscent of the New Wave and Gothic Rock sounds of the 1980s, and post punk... and mix them into a modern and luxurious wave of sonic delight for the dance floor.

In Slaughter Natives - Psicofonias - Las Voces Desconocidas

In the year 2008 the documentary called “Psicofonías: Las Voces Desconocidas” was shot by the film director Jose Moral. This was about the voices of dead people where echoes of spirits leave us some footprint after death. Humankind has believed during a long time that it is possible to communicate with dead people.

Over the years , seances, mediums and psychics have been possible instruments to make contact with the afterlife. So, EVP is an espiritual footprint and a communication link to the soundtrack in this documentary.

This one relies on some of the most important projects of the Dark Ambient Industrial music: In Slaughter Natives, which is a pioneer in the symphonic industrial field and part of the legendary label Cold Meat Industry. This music project is formed by Jouni Havukainen who carries out an outstanding and deep work full of aspects where in some parts we can listen the voices of dead people.

Peripheral Minimal is proud to present: 'Synthetiqué: A French Synthwave Compilation 1982-2016'.

Almost a year in the making, with tracks having been mislaid or buried underneath piles of original demos, then reconstructed and remastered! This compilation aims to highlight the core elements of French Synth-Pop from it's earliest incarnation to newer acts influenced by the earlier protagonists distinctive sounds and retro imagery. There will be many a familiar name here, and perhaps a few unknowns. It is not an exhaustive list of the acts associated with this particular 'scene', but a tribute to the idiosyncrasy and diversity of French analogue music.

Many of the tracks are completely unreleased or are early demos. For the aficionado we hope this fulfils a rediscovery of old classics or to the late-comer a decent collection of tracks that serve as an introduction to the uniqueness of French Synth music and the burgeoning new scene.

Conceived and curated by Jason B Bernard. The album comes in a luxurious digipak and is limited to 500 copies. Artwork by Oleg Galay and remastered by Martin Bowes @ The Cage. A big thank you to all the acts involved!
